Sentimental analysis begins with the search for words that determine the sentimentality inherent in data. Managers can understand market sentimentality by analyzing a number of relevant sentiment words which consumers usually tend to use. In this study, we propose exploring performance of feature selection methods embedded with Particle Swarm Optimization Multi Objectives Evolutionary Algorithms. The performance of the feature selection methods was benchmarked with machine learning classifiers such as Decision Tree, Naive Bayesian Network, Support Vector Machine, Random Forest, Bagging, Random Subspace, and Rotation Forest. Our empirical results of opinion mining revealed that the number of features was significantly reduced and the performance was not hurt. In specific, the Support Vector Machine showed the highest accuracy. Random subspace produced the best AUC results.
A main goal of pharmacogenomics studies is to predict individual's drug responsiveness based on high dimensional genetic variables. Due to a large number of variables, feature selection is required in order to reduce the number of variables. The selected features are used to construct a predictive model using machine learning algorithms. In the present study, we applied several hybrid feature selection methods such as combinations of logistic regression, ReliefF, TurF, random forest, and LASSO to a next generation sequencing data set of 400 epilepsy patients. We then applied the selected features to machine learning methods including random forest, gradient boosting, and support vector machine as well as a stacking ensemble method. Our results showed that the stacking model with a hybrid feature selection of random forest and ReliefF performs better than with other combinations of approaches. Based on a 5-fold cross validation partition, the mean test accuracy value of the best model was 0.727 and the mean test AUC value of the best model was 0.761. It also appeared that the stacking models outperform than single machine learning predictive models when using the same selected features.
Since a large text corpus contains hundred-thousand unique words, text data is one of the typical large-dimensional data. Therefore, various feature selection methods have been proposed for dimension reduction. Feature selection methods can improve the prediction accuracy. In addition, with reduced data size, computational efficiency also can be achieved. The chi-square statistic and the information gain are two of the most popular measures for identifying interesting terms from text data. In this paper, we investigate the theoretical properties of the chi-square statistic and the information gain. We show that the two filtering metrics share theoretical properties such as non-negativity and convexity. However, they are different from each other in the sense that the information gain is prone to select more negative features than the chi-square statistic in imbalanced text data.

This research evaluated differences of classification performance for feature selection methods using LDA topic model and Doc2Vec which is based on word embedding using deep learning, feature corpus sizes and classification algorithms. In addition to find the feature corpus with high performance of classification, an experiment was conducted using feature corpus was composed differently according to the location of the document and by adjusting the size of the feature corpus. Conclusionally, in the experiments using deep learning evaluate training frequency and specifically considered information for context inference. This study constructed biomedical document dataset, Disease-35083 which consisted biomedical scholarly documents provided by PMC and categorized by the disease category. Throughout the study this research verifies which type and size of feature corpus produces the highest performance and, also suggests some feature corpus which carry an extensibility to specific feature by displaying efficiency during the training time. Additionally, this research compares the differences between deep learning and existing method and suggests an appropriate method by classification environment.

Data-based analysis methods have become used more for estimating or predicting housing prices, and neural network models and decision trees in the field of big data are also widely used more and more. Neural network models are often evaluated to be superior to existing statistical models in terms of estimation or prediction accuracy. However, there is ambiguity in determining the input feature of the input layer of the neural network model, that is, the type and number of input features, and decision trees are sometimes used to overcome these disadvantages. In this paper, we evaluate the existing methods of using decision trees and propose the method of using decision trees to prioritize input feature selection in neural network models. This can be a complementary or combined analysis method of the neural network model and decision tree, and the validity was confirmed by applying the proposed method to house price estimation. Through several comparisons, it has been summarized that the selection of appropriate input characteristics according to priority can increase the estimation power of the model.
This paper is about how to identify emotional information and how to detect a specific emotion from speech signals. For emotion identification and detection task. we use long-term acoustic feature parameters and select the optimal Parameters using the feature selection technique based on F-score. We transform the conventional SVM into probabilistic output SVM for our emotion identification and detection system. In this paper we propose three approximation methods for log-likelihoods in a hypothesis test and compare the performance of those three methods. Experimental results using the SUSAS database showed the effectiveness of both feature selection and Probabilistic output SVM in the emotion identification task. The proposed methods could detect anger emotion with 91.3% correctness.

Feature normalization as a pre-processing step has been widely used to reduce the effect of different scale in each feature dimension and error rate in classification. Most of the existing normalization methods, however, do not use the class labels of data points and, as a result, do not guarantee the optimality of normalization in classification aspect. A supervised rank normalization method, combination of rank normalization and supervised learning technique, was proposed and demonstrated better result than others. In this paper, another technique, training sample selection, is introduced in supervised feature normalization to reduce classification error more. Training sample selection is a common technique for increasing classification accuracy by removing noisy samples and can be applied in supervised normalization method. Two sample selection measures based on the classes of neighboring samples and the distance to neighboring samples were proposed and both of them showed better results than previous supervised rank normalization method.

This article introduces a unified method of choosing the most explanatory and significant multiway partitions for classification tree design and analysis. The method is derived on the impurity reduction (IR) measure of divergence, which is proposed to extend the proportional-reduction-in-error (PRE) measure in the decision-theory context. For the method derivation, the IR measure is analyzed to characterize its statistical properties which are used to consistently handle the subjects of feature formation, feature selection, and feature deletion required in the associated classification tree construction. A numerical example is considered to illustrate the proposed approach.

The purpose of this paper is to present a new algorithm for extracting the consensus pattern, or motif from sequence belonging to the same family. Two methods are considered for feature interval partitioning based on equal probability and equal width interval partitioning. C2H2 zinc finger protein and epidermal growth factor protein sequences are used to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm for motif extraction. For two protein families, the equal width interval partitioning method performs better than the equal probability interval partitioning method.
