  • This paper investigated the effects of doping elements on the Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-O ceramics. The doping elements can be classified into four groups depending on their superconducting characteristics in the Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-O structure. The first group of doping elements(Co, Fe, Ni and Zn) substitute into the copper site and can reduce the critical temperatures of the 2223 and 2212 phases. The second group of doping elements(Y and La) substitute into the Ca site and cause the disappearance of the 2223 phase and increase the critical temperatures in the 2212 phase. The third group of doping elements(P and K) have a tendency to decompose the superconducting phase and reduce the optimal sintering temperature. The fourth group of doping elements(B, Si, Sn and Ba) almost unaffected the superconductivity of the 2223 and 2212 phase.

  • NaFeAs recently observed superconductivity with the maximum $T_c{\approx}25$ K is investigated using first principles approach. We will address briefly the electronic structure and contrast other superconducting pnictides. This system shows strong two-dimensionality and reduction of flatness in the Fermi surfaces undermines tendencies of magnetic or charge instabilities. As observed in other superconducting pnictides, $Q_M=(\pi,\pi,0)$ antiferromagnetic ordering, which has not been observed clearly yet in this compound, is energetically favored. However, contrast to other superconducting pnictides, the density of states in this ordering shows considerable electron-hole asymmetry, implying efficiency of hole-doping than electron-doping to enhance $T_c$.

  • The hot pressing was employed to prepare Fe-doped $CoSb_3$ skutterudites and their thermoelectric properties were investigated. Single phase ${\delta}-CoSb_3$ was successfully obtained by the hot pressing under 60MPa at 773 K for 2 hrs. Iron atoms acted as electron acceptors by substituting cobalt atoms. Thermoelectric properties were remarkably improved by the appropriate doping. $Co_{0.7}Fe_{0.3}Sb_3$ was found as an optimum composition for the best thermoelectric property in this work.

  • Ga-doped ZnO thin films by RF magnetron sputtering process were synthesized according to the deposition conditions of O2 and Ar atmosphere gases, and rapid heat treatment (RTA) was performed at 600℃ in an N2 atmosphere. The thickness of the deposited ZnO : Ga thin film was measured, the crystal phase was investigated by XRD pattern analysis, and the microstructure of the thin film was observed by FE-SEM and AFM images. The intensity of the (002) plane of the X-ray diffraction pattern showed a significant difference depending on the deposition conditions of the thin films formed by O2 and Ar atmosphere gas types. In the case of a single thin f ilm doped with Ga under O2 conditions, a strong diffraction peak was observed. Under O2 and Ar conditions, in the case of a multilayer thin film with Ga doping, only a peak on the (002) plane with a somewhat weak intensity was shown. In the FE-SEM image, it was observed that the grain size of the surface of the thin film slightly increased as the thickness increased. In the case of a multilayer thin film with Ga doping under O2 and Ar atmosphere conditions, the specific resistance was 6.4 × 10-4 Ω·cm. In the case of a single thin film with Ga doping under O2 atmosphere conditions, the resistance of the thin film decreased. The resistance decreased as the thickness of the Ga-doped ZnO thin film increased to 2 ㎛, showing relatively a low specific resistance of 1.0 × 10-3 Ω·cm.

  • We have studied effects of the partial substitution of $La^{3+}$ for $A^{2+}$ on the magnetic properties of double perovskites $A_2FeMoO_6$ (A=Ca, Sr and Ba). Polycrystalline $A_{2-x}La_xFeMoO_6(0{\leq}x{\leq}0.2)$ samples have been prepared by the conventional solid-state reaction in a stream of 5% $H_2$/Ar gas. The x-ray data indicate that A=Ca is monoclinic with the space group P$2_1$/n, A=Sr is tetragonal with the space group I4/mmm, and A=Ba is cubic with the space group Fm3m. The substitution of $La^{3+}$ for $A^{2+}$ results in a cell volume increase for A=Ca and a cell volume reduction for A=Ba. The decrease of saturation magnetization with increasing x arises from the reduction of magnetic moment associated with the electron doping and the disorder at the Fe and Mo sites. The partial substitution of magnetic $La^{3+}$ for $A^{2+}$ considerably enhances the Curie temperature $T_c$ from 316 K for x = 0 to 334 K for x = 0.2. This enhancement of $T_c$ with $La^{3+}$ doping originates from electron doping effects in addition to ionic size ones.

  • $Mn_xFe_{3-x}O_4$ powders have been fabricated by using sol-gel methods; their crystallographic and magnetic properties were investigated by using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, M$\ddot{o}$ssbauer spectroscopy, and vibrating sample magnetometer. The $Mn_xFe_{3-x}O_4$ ferrite powders annealed at $500^{\circ}C$ had a single spinel structure regardless of the $Mn^{2+}$-doping amount and their lattice constants became larger as the $Mn^{2+}$ concentration was increased. Their Mossbauer spectra measured at room temperature were fitted with 2 Zeeman sextets due to the tetrahedral and octahedral sites of Fe ions, which made them ferrimagnetic. The magnetic behavior of $Mn_xFe_{3-x}O_4$ powders showed that the $Mn^{2+}$-doping amount made their saturation magnetization increase, but there were no severe effects on their coercivities. The saturation magnetization of the $Mn_xFe_{3-x}O_4$ powder varied from 38 emu/g to 70.0 emu/g and their minimum coercivity was 111.1 Oe.

  • The influences of Gallium doping on the magnetic microstructures and corrosion behaviors of Nd-Fe-B-Ti-C alloys are investigated. The cooling rate for obtaining fully amorphous structure is raised, and the glassforming ability is improved by the Ga addition. The High Resolution Transmission Electron Microscopy image shows that the ${\alpha}$-Fe and $Fe_3B$ soft magnetic phases become granular surrounded by the $Nd_2Fe_{14}B$ hard magnetic phase. The rms and $({\Delta}{\varphi})_{rms}$ value of Nd-Fe-B-Ti-C nanocomposite alloy thick ribbons in the typical topographic and magnetic force images detected by Magnetic Force Microscopy(MFM) decreases with 0.5 at% Ga addition. The corrosion resistances of $Nd_9Fe_{73}B_{12.6}C_{1.4}Ti_{4-x}Ga_x$ (x = 0, 0.5, 1) alloys are enhanced by the Ga addition. It can be attributed to the formation of more amorphous phases in the Ga doped samples.

  • The effects of additional P-doping on the magnetic properties, thermal stability and cation distribution of Co-doped ${\gamma}-{Fe_2} {O_3}$have been investigated by means of magnetic annealing and measurements with vibration sample magnetometer and torque magnetometer. It is found that the P-doping promotes the coercivity and its magnetic-thermal stability, which may be attributed to increase of the cubic magneto-crystalline anisotropy constant, $K_1$ and the activation energy, E, for cation rearrangement, respectively. The cation distribution of P and Co-substituted iron oxide was calculated from the variation of the saturation magnetization with P-doping on the basis of the Neel model. It was found that the most of P ions in the iron oxides occupied the B-site of spinel lattice.
