  • A video signature is a set of feature vectors that compactly represents and uniquely characterizes one video clip from another for fast matching. To find a short duplicated region, the video signature must be robust against common video modifications and have a high discriminability. The matching method must be fast and be successful at finding locations. In this paper, a frame-based video signature that uses the spatial information and a two-stage matching method is presented. The proposed method is pair-wise independent and is robust against common video modifications. The proposed two-stage matching method is fast and works very well in finding locations. In addition, the proposed matching structure and strategy can distinguish a case in which a part of the query video matches a part of the target video. The proposed method is verified using video modified by the VCE7 experimental conditions found in MPEG-7. The proposed video signature method achieves a robustness of 88.7% under an independence condition of 5 parts per million with over 1,000 clips being matched per second.

  • This paper suggests the condensed two-stage retrieval method for fast image retrieval in the content-based image retrieval system, and proves the validity of the performance. The condensed two-stage retrieval method reduces the overall response time remarkably while it maintains relevance with the conventional exhaustive search method. It is explained by properties of the Cauchy-Schwartz inequality. In experimental result, it turns out that there is an optimal value of condensation ratio which minimizes the overall response time. We analyze the optimal condensation ratio by modeling a similarity computation time mathematically.

  • This paper describes a systein which enables a fast 3 -dimensional profile measurement using a slit-ray projection method. One distinctive feature of this system is that a real-time video is processor is employed in order to reduce the amount of image data to be processed without eliminating essential information. Experimental results show that a calibrating method presented for the TV camera and the slit-ray projector is convenient and enables sufficient accurate measurements.

  • For shape description, a fast sequential method for polygonal approximation of chaincoded plane curves which are object boundaries is proposed. The proposed method performs polygonal approximation by use of the distance error from one point to a line, and its performance is enhanced by the smoothed slopes of lines. Furthermore, accumulated distance error and variable distance error threshold are proposed in order to consider and implement the visual characteristics of the human being.

  • Image inpainting is the process of reconstructing lost or deteriorated parts of images using information from surrounding areas. We propose a computationally efficient and fast phase-field method which uses automatic switching parameter, adaptive time step, and automatic stopping of calculation. The algorithm is based on an energy functional. We demonstrate the performance of our new method and compare it with a previous method.

  • In this paper, a new method is proposed for tracking the direction-of-arrival (DOA) of the wideband moving source incident on uniform linear array sensors. DOA is estimated by focusing transformation matrices. To update focusing matrices along with new data snap shots, we use the FAST (Fast Approximate Subspace Tracking) method. Present focusing matrices are constructed by previous signal and its orthogonal basis vectors as well as present signal and its orthogonal basis vectors, which are the left and right singular vectors of the inner product of two approximated matrices. Simulation results are shown to illustrate the performance of the proposed method.

  • This work describes a speech analysis of Korean number ('1'-'10') which are spoken by several speakers using Fast Walsh Transform(FWHT) method. FWHT includes only addition and subtraction operations, therefore faster and needs less memory than FFT(Fast Fourier Transfifrm) or LPC(Linear Predictive Coding) analysis method. We have investigated that FWHT method can find speaker independent feature(which represents same cue about some word independent of different speakers) The results of this experiment, the 70% of same words(korean number '2')which spoken by several speakers have had slmilar patterns.

  • A fast algorithm for endmember extraction is proposed in this study which extracts min. and max. pixels from each band after MNF transform as candidate pixels for endmember. This method finds endmembers not from the entire image pixels but only from the previously extracted candidate pixels. The experimental results by N-FINDR using a simulated hyperspectral image data and AVIRIS Cuprite image data showed that the proposed fast algorithm extracts the same endmembers with the conventional methods. More studies on the effect of noise and more adaptive criteria in extracting candidate pixels are expected to increase the usability of this method for more fast and efficient analysis of hyperspectral image data.

  • Corner detection and feature extraction are essential aspects of computer vision problems such as object recognition and tracking. Feature detectors such as Scale Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT) yields high quality features but computationally intensive for use in real-time applications. The Features from Accelerated Segment Test (FAST) detector provides faster feature computation by extracting only corner information in recognising an object. In this paper we have analyzed the efficient object detection algorithms with respect to efficiency, quality and robustness by comparing characteristics of image detectors for corner detector and feature extractors. The simulated result shows that compared to conventional SIFT algorithm, the object recognition system based on the FAST corner detector yields increased speed and low performance degradation. The average time to find keypoints in SIFT method is about 0.116 seconds for extracting 2169 keypoints. Similarly the average time to find corner points was 0.651 seconds for detecting 1714 keypoints in FAST methods at threshold 30. Thus the FAST method detects corner points faster with better quality images for object recognition.

  • It is intended to develope an algorithm for dynamic simulation of fast-acting solenoid valves. The coupled equations of the electric, magnetic, and mechanical systems should be solved simultaneously in a transient nonlinear manner. The transient nonlinear electromagnetic field is analyzed by the Finite Element Method (FEM), which is coupled with nonlinear electronic circuitry. The dynamic movement of the solenoid valve is analyzed at every time step from the force balances acting on the plunger, which include the electromagnetic force calculated from the Finite Element analysis as well as the elastic force by a spring and the hydrodynamic pressure force along the flow passage. Dynamic responses of the solenoid valves predicted by this algorithm agree well with the experimental results including bouncing effects.
