  • The purposes of this article are segmenting consumers by brand attachment motives and discovering the differences among the segmented groups in relation to clothing involvement and clothing behavior (ready-to-wear satisfaction, brand loyalty, purchased items, and purchased places). The subjects of this study were male and female consumers, who were residents in Seoul, Korea. The data had been collected during May, 2007, and statistical analyses used for the study were factor analysis, cluster analysis, t-test, and chi-square test. The results showed that brand attachment motive is composed of two factors: brand personality/individuality expression and conformity/status improvement. Based on cluster analysis, there were two brand attachment motive groups: individuality expression and status improvement segments. T-test showed that brand attachment motive segments were significantly different in terms of clothing involvement and clothing behavior (ready-to-wear satisfaction, brand loyalty and purchased items). For example, the individuality expression group was more interested in clothing, was more satisfied with ready-to-wear clothing, had higher brand loyalty, and usually purchased casual wear. Meanwhile, the status improvement group had a higher perceived risk in clothing involvement, was less satisfied with ready-to-wear clothing, had a lower degree of brand loyalty, and preferred to purchase formal wear. The results implied that brand attachment motive is an important variable in market segmentation, in which specific marketing strategies should be implemented for each targeted consumers.

  • The purpose of this research was to analyze the clothing behavioral attributes of male music enthusiasts. A questionnaire was developed based on previous researches. Respondents were men who were concerned with music in terms of a job, a major or a hobby. A total of 200 responses were analyzed by SPSS 20.0 through factor analysis with Varimax rotation, ANOVA with post-hoc test(SNK-test) and ${\chi}^2$-test. Music preference was classified into 3 factors: New age/jazz, Hiphop/dance, and Metal rock/ballad factor. 5 Clothing purchasing orientation factors were extruded: hedonic, planned, convenience, brand pursued, and fashion pursued purchasing orientation. Using those factor scores, 3 groups were classified: Group1(G1), preferring Hiphop/dance music with lower hedonic and brand/fashion pursued purchasing orientation; G2, preferring Hiphop/dance music with no interest in clothing shopping and fashion; G3, preferring New age music with high convenience and brand pursued purchasing orientation. In addition, there were significant differences among groups in clothing behavior such as social ostentation, individuality, self-expression, fashionability, conformity; in purchase motivation such as hedonic and trend/designer oriented purchase motivation; in information source like advertisement/media source; and in store choice criteria such as store light/music and popularity. The findings showed even the enthusiasts for the same music showed the different sopping orientation and different clothing behavior, suggesting that a personal value or taste can be a plausible factor to figure out attributes of consumers. An interest/involvement in clothing could be helpful to subdivide the music enthusiasts as the target market.

In order to understand the relationship between consumer's personal characteristics and purchase behavior, the study investigated the effect of consumers' personality trait on the clothing selection criteria and preferred clothing image. Survey was utilized to collect the data and subjects were 333 high school students. Measures consisted of three main constructs: Consumer's extroversion and openness based on the Big-Five personality trait, clothing selection criteria, and preferred clothing image. The data were analyzed using PRELIS 2, LISREL 8.8, and SAS 9.2. The subjects was classified into three groups; Group 1 was a group of intermediate-level in openness and extroversion while Group 2 was a group of high-level in both personality traits. Group 3 was a group of high-level in openness but of low-level in extroversion. Clothing selection criteria were confirmed to have five constructs: other-directed, aesthetic, fashion & conformity-oriented, brand-oriented, and practical. In the buying situation, Group 1 prioritized fashion & conformity-oriented and brand-oriented criteria but regarded other-directed and aesthetic as less important than other groups did. Group 2 considered that all of the clothing selection criteria were important except practical. "The were six factors in the clothing image: elegance, simple, ethnic, masculine, active, and modem. The result showed a significant difference between groups in preferred clothing images. Group 2 liked most of the clothing images but group 3 did not.
