A Survey for the Development of a 3D Printing Related Course in Fashion Design Department (3D 프린팅 관련 교과목 개발을 위한 기초 연구 - 전문대학 패션디자인과를 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study is to provide fundamental data for the development of new course on 3D printing in the fashion design department. In order to investigate the perception of and educational needs in 3D printing, the data were collected from 266 students (female 68.8%, male 31.2%) majoring in fashion design aged 18-25 living in the capital area. The results of this survey showed that when investigating perceptions of 3D printing, it was found that 68.8% of answerers had indeed heard of 3D printing. Regarding the path they came to know about 3D printing, mass media such TV was the most frequent answer (54.6%). On the other hand, to the question asking about their intention to take the subject if given, approximately 71% said "Yes". Also, if a modeling class were given, the division that they wanted to explore most in the fashion industry was fashion jewelry. Finally, to the question asking interest in starting a business, 71.1% answered that they had interest. Out of those that answered that they had interest, when questioned about in which field they wanted to start a business, the most frequent answer was fashion online shopping mall. Finally, NCS-based 3D printing courses were suggested in the Fashion Design area. As 3D printing techniques are actively applied to the fashion industry overseas, creative education is needed through the integration of fashion and 3D printing technology by introducing 3D printing related programs in colleges.

Development of Fashion Design Applying Code and Tape Trimming Decoration Techniques of Computer Embroidery Machine (컴퓨터 자수기계 코드 및 테이프 트리밍 장식기법을 활용한 패션디자인 개발)

  • Purpose of this study is to develop fashion design with greater added value and to seek the expandability of its expression domain by applying special computer code and tape embroidery machine capable of creating more special and fancier fashion to the development of fashion design by focusing on the fashion decorations that are becoming increasingly more computer systematized. For this purpose, expression techniques and effects of computer embroidery machine code and tape trimming decoration techniques, and cases of modern fashion design are examined. Major images are then deduced to designing and production of actual 6 creative pieces equipped with creativity and commercial value by applying such images deduced. As the results, it is not only possible to develop highly value added fashion design by utilizing mixed computer embroidery machine code and tape trimming decoration technique but also to produce countlessly new and unique surfaces by inducing changes in diversified pattern expressions, thickness of cord thread, and width, color and texture of material, etc. of the tape. This can maximize the expression domain of design, and fulfill the fashion desires of consumers wanting modern enhancement of quality and individualization. If multilateral attempts and studies for the aforementioned purposes can be expanded continuously, it is deemed possible to broaden the range of expression techniques in fashion design and, moreover, to make contribution towards enhancement of competitiveness of fashion industry.

A Study on Fashion Designing Idea (의상디자인 발상법에 관한 연구)

  • This paper focuses on development of a fashion design education course that will foster the talent and aesthetic consciousness of fashion design student. The writer reached the content of the designing ideas to practical applications as the defined scope of fashion design education. For designing idea in practical application : matching ideas, contrasting ideas, formative combinations and revisionism were used. For design ideas, the ideas developed by 飯塚弘子, 万江入重子, 香川達子 were used in revision. To detail the content of design education, fashion magazines, portfolios, photographs and related fashion design educational materials were used. 1. Matching ideas : it proposes such identical expression into costume by making a research of developing material, application form and color extraction from design sources. 2. Contrasting ideas : it proposes such opposite expression into costume by making a research of opposite to image, form, position and purpose from some object. 3. Formative combinations : it proposes such new expression into costume by combining a detail of costume with the other object. 4. Revisionism : it proposes such modified expression into costume by making a research of deletion, change, addition and conversion in costume.

A Study of the Formative Characteristics of Future Materials in Fashion Industry

  • These days there are plenty of studies that predict a future with rapid technological development. The development of new technology also has greatly changed the fashion industry. Materials were developed with a variety of techniques, and recently as the exterior and property of materials have been brought into focus, regarding images as a trend of fashion. The purpose of this study is to consider the kinds and characteristics of diverse future materials developed by high technological advancement and to present a new course for future materials by analyzing the formative characteristics of future fashion with future materials. The methods of this work are an examination by reference to theoretical study about the conceptions of futurism in fashion and a visual analysis of the materials in picture data. Another topic of study was the positive source of future fashion that actually applies to these materials. The study makes an analysis of future characteristics expressed in modern fashion, looking at the background and developmental course of futurism. It considers the conception, types and characteristics of diverse new flexible materials such as metal, non-woven fabric, Styrofoam, rubber, glass fiber and polished fiber. With all of these works, we would like to express the course for the development of coming future fashion and the potential of an appropriate union between sensitivity and science.

Development of Knitted Fashion Culture Products Using Gangneung Cultural Resource -Focusing on Gangneung Subo Patterns- (강릉 문화자원을 활용한 니트 패션문화상품 개발 -강릉 수보 문양을 중심으로-)

  • This study was aimed at developing a new textile design based on the authentic and cultural resources of the Gangneung Subo pattern and applying the textile design to knitted fashion products. Gangneung has been recognized for its outstanding artistry in the field of Gyubang art. Gangneung Subo is an embroidered wrapping cloth. The discovered and preserved Subo at this time was from the Kwandong region centered in Gangeung, and is regarded as the product of the indigenous native culture in Kwandong. Therefore, as a representative cultural resource of Gangneung, the Gangneung Subo has sufficient value as a material for the development of cultural products with uniqueness, distinctiveness, and historicality. As a research method, the background of Gangneung Subo was investigated. A total of 12 motifs were created while preserving the authentic originality of the Gangneung Subo pattern and minimizing unwanted deformations of the pattern during the developing process. The created motifs were repeatedly applied to the pattern and new textile designs were created. Eighteen knit fashion products, including narrow and wide-width mufflers and neck warmers, were developed by applying the new textile designs. As a significant cultural resource for cultural goods development, this study ascertained the value of Gangneung Subo, preserving its unique distinction and history. This study was especially significant since the Gangneung cultural goods developed used knitted material and extended the development to producing real products.

Development of futurism fashion design based on 3D digital clothing technology (3D 가상착의를 활용한 미래주의 패션 디자인)

  • In this study, we aimed to apply 3D digital printing to basic clothing production and to propose futuristic fashion design and production methods that correspond to contemporary trends. Literature on future trends, dynamism, mechanical aesthetics, and experimentalism were used to define the characteristics of "futurism." Based on theoretical considerations about futurism, we created fashion designs using 3D digital printing methods. These designs were produced using the aesthetic characteristics of futurism; the 3D digital clothing program; and application of digital printing technologies to futuristic silhouettes, colors, and materials. The results were as follows: First, with the application of futurism as a fashion motif, we pursued collaboration between artistic work and fashion, and we then explored the possibility of creative expression. Second, harmony between achromatic and chromatic colors revealed even better dynamism and activeness, and the potential to express dynamism was observed. Third, with the development of fashion design processes based on 3D digital printing methodologies, it was found to be possible to eliminate the limitations of time and space, solve problems related to limited budget or communication, and positively influence the fashion industry by enhancing convenience and diversity. Fourth, with the development of fashion design that utilizes digital printing, it was found that problems related to time, space, or limited budget were able to be solved, as compared to the use of traditional printing and image reproduction.

  • As fashion is a reflection of a way of life, jean fashion seems to be a reflection of the background and process of social-human psychology. Modern jeans reflect personality and trend rather than traditional practicality as indicated by the concept and emphasis of fashion. Since the early 1990s, practical use of jeans has appeared consistently in products for interior use, various kinds of fashion-ware and fashion properties, as well as in fashion that is a conversion and interpretation of an outstanding fashion trend. And the search, providing that various symbols of jeans are sensualism, deviation, ostentation, amusement and multi-culture, shows that jeans represent the multifarious aspects of fashion culture. For the purpose and necessity of this search to meet different consumers' desires by the practical use of jeans and the development of fashion-ware. First, investigate the trend of jeans in 2005. Second, try to change the various uses of jeans by reflecting the trend of jeans. Finally, extend the range of choice by developing various goods. As a result, basic jeans have the strength of function, activity, and originality. Use of ornamental jeans can fully show their value as well as their emphasis of individuality in beauty. If we consider these points, we can minimize the limitations of jeans and make a practical use of the fashion trend, If we make the function of jeans stand out through the use of varieties of materials, the modem characteristic consumption will be met by the various change of use as well as by the clothes.

A Study on the Method to Apply LED to Fashion Design and Its Expression Characteristic (LED의 패션디자인 적용방법과 표현특성)

  • Fashion industry is high value added indust교, whose price is decided by design value so it requires creativity and uniqueness for competition. The purpose of this study is to grasp how the design characteristic of LED that can express new creativity and uniqueness is applied to fashion design and find out the expression characteristic of LED used in fashion design. The study subjects, the design to which LED is applied, were extracted from fashion show and internet search. As a study result, the expression characteristics of LED used for fashion design are as follows. First, for function, tool function that can provide convenience for life and expression function that can provide user with emotional and psychological satisfaction and communication were allowed. Second, for aesthetic changes, many-sided, multiple colors and pattern displays of LED changed design meaning visually and caused aesthetic emotion for observer. Third, for interaction, physical factor of LED, user, dress and environmental factor interacted each other, enabling both-sided communication. Fourth, for amusement, multiple lights of LED activated visual and tactile sense, expressing usefulness and joyfulness on the basis of various display possibilities and changes. The study result will be helpful for developing more unique, creative design according to the change of age and development of science.

A Case Study of Human-AI Co-creation(HAIC) in Fashion Design (패션 디자인에서의 인간-AI 공동창조(HAIC) 사례 연구)

  • With the prospect that integrating creative AI in the fashion design field will become more visible, this study considered the case of creative fashion design development through Human-AI Co-creation (HAIC). Methodologically, this research encompasses a literature review and empirical investigations. In the literature review, the fashion design and creative HAIC processes, and the possibilities of integrating AI in fashion design were considered. In the empirical study, based on the case analysis of generating fashion design through HAIC, the HAIC type according to the role and interaction method, and characteristics of humans and AI was considered, and the HAIC process for fashion design was derived. The results of this study are summarized as follows. First, HAIC types in fashion design are divided into four types: AI-driven passive HAIC, human-driven passive HAIC, flexible interaction-based HAIC, and integrated interaction-based value creation HAIC. Second, the stages of the HAIC process for creative fashion design can be broadly divided into semantic data integration, visual ideation, design creation and expansion, design presentation, and design/manufacturing solution and UX platform creation. Third, in fashion design, HAIC contributes to human ability, enhancement of creativity, achievement of efficient workflow, and creation of new values. This research suggests that HAIC has the potential to revolutionize the fashion design industry by facilitating collaboration between humans and AI; consequently, enhancing creativity, and improving the efficiency of the design process. It also offers a framework for understanding the different types of HAIC and the stages involved in the creative fashion design process.

Study on gender-neutral style in modern fashion (현대 패션에 나타난 젠더 뉴트럴 스타일에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to understand the gender-neutral phenomenon, to grasp the flow of design, and to seek the future direction of modern fashion design. As for the scope and method of the study, this study was performed based on relevant literature. In terms of visual data, website photos were collected from the collection of S/S in 2016 to F/W in 2020. To assess the properties of the gender-neutral, analysis was implemented on the results after arranging the factors for gender neutrality and the characteristics suggested in the related papers. The fashion-related expert group analyzed the properties of the gender-neutral style from 1,031 pictures, where the gender-neutral style of fashion design collections was applied. As a result of the analysis, the characteristics of the gender-neutral were analyzed and divided into the extended body-positive performance style, the mashup style- respecting the conflicting culture, the street style of coexisting genders, and the fluid style of changing directions. In this study, the attributes were derived as acceptability, playfulness, and sustainability. Accordingly, it is expected that this study will play a fundamental role in the creative fashion design development and unfolding of the fashion industry and fashion designers.
