  • This study was performed to investigate the effect of different levels of dietary crude protein (CP) on composition of odorous compounds and bacterial communities in pig manure. A total of 48 male pigs (average initial body weight 45 kg) fed diets containing three levels of dietary CP (20%, 17.5%, and 15%) and their slurry samples were collected from the pits under the floor every week for one month. Changes in composition of odorous compounds and bacterial communities were analyzed by gas chromatography and 454 FLX titanium pyrosequencing systems, respectively. Levels of phenols, indoles, short chain fatty acid and branched chain fatty acid were lowest (p<0.05) in CP 15% group among three CP levels. Relative abundance of Bacteroidetes phylum and bacterial genera including Leuconostoc, Bacillus, Atopostipes, Peptonphilus, Ruminococcaceae_uc, Bacteroides, and Pseudomonas was lower (p<0.05) in CP 15% than in CP 20% group. There was a positive correlation (p<0.05) between odorous compounds and bacterial genera: phenol, indole, iso-butyric acid, and iso-valeric acid with Atopostipes, p-cresol and skatole with Bacteroides, acetic acid and butyric acid with AM982595_g of Porphyromonadaceae family, and propionic acid with Tissierella. Taken together, administration of 15% CP showed less production of odorous compounds than 20% CP group and this result might be associated with the changes in bacterial communities especially whose roles in protein metabolism.

  • Many historians presume that several kings included the crown prince were killed by poison in the Jo-Soon dynasty. Above all, there is every possibility of killing the crown prince So-Hyoon(昭顯) by poison. The crown prince So-Hyeon was detained for 8 years in Sim-Yang(瀋陽). He died suddenly in two month from coming home. According to an authentic record, official death causes were malaria. But there is little possibility that a young crown prince die of malaria at the age of 34. His dead body shows change of skin color and bleeding from the ear, eye, mouth, and nose. This is the sufficient evidence that he was killed by poison. King In-Jo have a doubt that he was ousted from his post by crown prince So-Hyeon in conspiracy with cheong imperial court. Especially, after the crown prince So-Hyeon's death, owing to cold attitude that king In-Jo shows and a tragic affair that occurred to the crown prince's family, king In-Jo is under suspicion as the mastermind of the murder. Another poisoners are Jo-So Yong(趙昭容) and Lee-Hyeong Ik(李聲益). Jo-So Yong, a royal harem, intrigue against the couple of crown prince So-Hyoon. Lee-Hyeong Ik that win king In-Jo's favor take charge of the medical treatment. We supposed that toxic substance is arsenic poison.

  • This descriptive study evaluated the satisfaction in daily life of Thai people according to participants' socioeconomic characteristics. The accidental sample included 676 Thai people aged 20 and older who lived in Bangkok and urban Saraburi. The satisfaction in daily life questionnaire (${\alpha}=0.86$) was used to collect data. The ranking for each aspect of daily life satisfaction arranged from high to low are: family life (mean=3.39), human relations, housing, food, job, health, and income (mean=2.99). Females were found to have a significantly higher satisfaction with daily life than males (mean=22.81 vs. 21.91). Those who lived in Saraburi province were found to have a higher satisfaction with daily life than those in Bangkok. Married participants, participants age 50-59, participants from two-generation households of parents and unmarried children, participants who stated that they took better care of their health now compared to one year ago, and participants who consulted a doctor in the past month were found to have higher satisfaction with daily life than their counterparts.

The subjects were 153 elderly patients with diabetes who were selected from the public health center in Gwang ju. The data collected was analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation and stepwise multiple regression. This study found that approximately 52.9% of the subjects were exercising regularly. Exercise performance was significantly different according to education level, family income by month, and level of diabetes education. Significant factors influencing exercise performance were exercise self-efficacy, exercise social support and exercise benefits. The most powerful predictor of exercise performance was exercise self-efficacy(34.2%). • The relations of mothers' attitudes regarding maternal employment to mothers' psychological well-being, mothers' parenting sensitivity and children's social competence were examined for mothers who worked full-time (extensively) from age 6 months of their children on, mothers who were not employed, and mothers who worked part-time or inconsistently during their children's early years. Longitudinal observations of 1,034 mothers and children in the NICHD Study of Early Child Care from age one month to first grade were analyzed using structural equation models. As predicted, mothers and children benefited when maternal attitudes were consistent with mother's actual employment status. Among extensively employed mothers, those with positive attitudes about employment had better psychological well-being; among mothers who were not employed, those who believed that maternal employment would have negative consequences for children's development reported better psychological well-being. The findings suggested that whether the mother's status of employment is congruent with their beliefs, not whether the mother is working or not, predicted the mother's well-being and their child's social development.

The study compiled data on 474 middle school students from middle schools in Jeollanamdo. The findings of the study are as follows. First, most of the students were aware of the necessity for preventive education regarding school violence. By gender, girls and those of lower grades showed great class participation and satisfaction. Second, research on the preventive education found differences in the seriousness of school violence according to school location. Fourth, preventive education conducted once or twice a month was the most desirable condition for middle school students. As a result, schools should consider gender differences and grade level when, developing an education program in order to prevent school violence.

  • The principal objective of this study was to assess perceptions and preferences of chungkukjang in elementary school children who used a school foodservice. In this investigation, 583 elementary school students(300 boys, 283 girls) in the Seongnam area were surveyed via questionnaire, and the collected data were analyzed using the SAS package. The results demonstrated that 82.0% of students responded that they were aware of chungkukjang. Female students were more aware of chungkulgang than were male students, and children of the nuclear families were more aware of those of the extended family. With regard to the origins of their interest in chungkulgang, 51.8% of the subjects answered 'through home education' and 35.5% learned about chungkukjang 'through mass media'. Most students recognized chungkulgang as a 'healthy food' and a 'Korean traditional food'. Approximately 44% of the students ate chungkukjang in the school foodservice once per month, and 41.7% preferred this menu. Therefore, in order to increase elementary school students' knowledge and intake of chungkulgang, the school should attempt to foster the quality of chungkulgang in nutrition education, to serve chungkukjang frequently in school foodservices, and to develop recipes for tastier chungkukjang foods for children.

  • Background: A school-based smoke free home (SFH) program is useful in empowering the mother and child to reduce secondhand smoke exposure but the effects of pretesting on knowledge and attitude has been largely ignored. We aimed to test whether such a program can be effective in Southern Thailand with an additional assessment of the net effect of the pretest. Materials and Methods: A Solomon four-group design was used. Twelve rural primary schools were assigned to one of the four conditions (each with 3 schools): intervention with and without a pretest, control with and without the same pretest. The intervention was performed in the classroom and home over a period of 1 month. Outcomes were assessed at baseline and 3 months after the intervention on whether the home was smoke free and related knowledge and attitude. Results: The intervention could lead to a smoke-free home without statistical significance. Attitude, knowledge and self-confidence on creating a smoke-free home, and self-confidence in avoidance of secondhand smoke exposure and persuading smokers to not smoke in their home were significantly improved. No pretest effect was observed. Conclusions: Gain in attitude, knowledge and self-confidence among family members from the brief school-based education should be enhanced by other measures.
