Job Satisfaction Comparison Between Gender and The Influencing Factors on Job Satisfaction (성별 근로자의 직업만족도와 관련요인)

  • Purpose: This study were carried out to investigate the difference employment characteristics and job satisfactions by gender and to explore the influences of demographic status and employment characteristics on job satisfaction. Method: Social statistics survey data collected by Ministry of Statistics in 1998 were used for the secondary analysis in the study. Job satisfaction was measured by questionnaire which were consisted in 12 items such as task, promotion, placement, wage, benefits, future in the work, working environment, human relationship, working hours. Result: The results show that more than 50% of women were working as a part-time employees. Their education level were lower than men. Women workers were unmarried at higher percents than men. Men were showed more satisfaction significantly in their job than women. Men also had higher job satisfaction with work task, promotion, placement, and human relation. Women had shown higher job satisfaction with wage, working environment, and employer-employee relationship. Employment status had the most important factor on the job satisfaction. And, living status satisfaction, education, age, occupation, marital status, employment status and sex were significant for the job satisfaction. 33.34% of the variance in the job satisfaction were accounted for by these variables. Conclusion: The results of this study showed that there were difference of job satisfaction between gender and employment status was the most predictive factors on the job satisfaction. Women had more unstable employment status such as part-time, employment on probation, or family employer without wage than men. Stability of employment could be considered as a strategy for enhancing job satisfaction for women.

The Effects of Social Recognitions on Occupational Confidence and Job Satisfaction Among Hotel Employees in Daeion Area (호텔종사원의 사회적인식이 직업의식과 직무만족에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • This study was done to find out how social recognitions to affect hotel employees' self-confidence in their job and job satisfaction. For the purpose of the study, literatures on job satisfaction and occupational self-confidence were reviewed and empirical analysis were carried out with the hotel employees in Daejeon area. Through the study we found that hotel employees with family members who showed a positive attitude for the hoteliers showed higher degree of occupational confidence and job satisfaction for their job. The study also found that there was a significant relations between social recognitions and job satisfaction. In addition, the study showd that job confidence and job satisfaction were significantly correlated.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of perceptions of work and family life on employee job satisfaction and to form a policy approach that contributes to the enhancement of worker satisfaction. In particular, we wanted to analyze how the characteristics of each variable appeared in industry groups with different gender ratios of workers. A notable point of the study was that the respondents who answered that work and family had similar importance were satisfied with their working conditions. In addition, it was found that the higher an employee's evaluation of the work-family reconciliation policy, the higher the employee's satisfaction with their working conditions. As a result of a path analysis, it was found that the most male-dominant industry was manufacturing, and the most female-dominant industry was health and social welfare. In the case of respondents who were employed in the most-male dominant industry, the degree of an employee's understanding of the work-family reconciliation policy recognition, rather than the relative priorities of work and family life, had a greater effect on job satisfaction. On the other hand, respondents who were employed in the most-female dominant industry confirmed that their level of education was highly related to the degree of institutional recognition.

The Verification of Mediating Effects of Childcare Teachers' Job Satisfaction on the Relationship between Their Intention to Change Jobs and the Directors' Emotional Leadership (어린이집 원장의 감성리더십과 보육교사의 이직의도와의 관계에서 직무만족도의 매개효과 검증)

  • The objective of this study was to investigate whether childcare teachers' job satisfaction plays a mediating role between their intention to change jobs and directors' emotional leadership. The participants of this study were 282 childcare teachers in Seoul. The instruments for this study were Director's Emotional Leadership Scale (2 factors with 18 items), Childcare Teacher's Job Satisfaction Scale (K-CTJSS, 6 factors with 40 items), and Childcare Teacher's Intention to Change Jobs Scale (1 factor with 7 items). These instruments were verified by Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ as a reliability and factor analysis as a validity. The data were analysed by Pearson's productive correlation, stepwise multiple regression and path analysis by the SPSS ver. 20.0 and AMOS ver. 20.0. The results were as follows: First, there were significant negative correlations between directors' emotional leadership and childcare teachers' intention to change jobs, and between childcare teachers' job satisfaction and their intention to change jobs, whereas there were significant positive correlations between directors' emotional leadership and childcare teachers' job satisfaction. Second, the directors' emotional leadership was explained by 22% and the childcare teachers' job satisfaction was explained by 9% of their intention to change jobs. Last, the childcare teachers' job satisfaction mediated between the directors' emotional leadership and childcare teachers' intention to change jobs.

Factors Influencing Turnover Intention in Clinical Nurses: Compassion Fatigue, Coping, Social Support, and Job Satisfaction

  • Purpose: This study was done to construct and verify a model of turnover intention in clinical nurses, considering the effects of compassion fatigue, coping, social support, and job satisfaction. Methods: For this study a cross-sectional correlational design was used. Participants were 283 clinical nurses in four general hospitals. Data were collected using a questionnaire and were analyzed with descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficient and path analysis. Results: The modified model of turnover intention had a good fit in this study. Turnover intention was influenced by job satisfaction, and job satisfaction was affected by workload, problem-focused coping, peer support, family-friend support and compassion fatigue. Compassion fatigue was associated with occupational trauma events, problem-focused coping and emotional-focused coping. Job satisfaction was the most important factors controlling nurse's turnover intention. Conclusion: Findings show that job satisfaction, compassion fatigue, and traumatic events are important factors influencing turnover intention. Nurse managers try to manage job satisfaction, compassion fatigue, support, and coping for nurses, it could be expected making proper nursing circumstance.

A typology of relative importance to the work and family life of married men (기혼 남성의 삶에서 일과 가정생활이 차지하는 비중에 따른 유형 및 유형별 특성)

  • This study focused on issues of relative importance to the work and family life of married men. The work was carried out to determine, when men are in any category, how to increase their satisfaction with their work and family life. Data from 896 married men with their youngest children under 18 years of age was collected and analyzed. Cluster analysis was performed to classify the categories depending on the relative importance of work as compared to family life. I obtained four types relating to the relative importance of work compared to family life. The results are as follows. First, the score of subjective balance which was perceived by the men was slightly higher than the normal range, at 3.27 points. Second, work-family negative spillover is bigger than family-work negative spillover. On the other hand, family-work positive spillover is bigger than work-family positive spillover. Third, in the category in which the difference is largest between the relative importance of work and family life, the men crave the value of nonwork. It seems that in order to bring a particular gravity to work, there is a possibility that the areas outside of work will be suppressed. Also, in this category, both the satisfaction of family life and job satisfaction were low; this will be a point to consider when discussing the problem of the balance of work and family.

Family Life Style Changes According to the Householder's Job Status (가장의 실직에 따른 가정생활 변화)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of householder's job status m the family life style. Data was collected from 475 parents in Chonbuk province by using a self administered questionnaire from June 10 to 30, 1998. Frequencies, percentages, and averages were calculated T-test, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression analysis were followed. The results were as follows; 1. The families who suffered householders' job loss were 1/4 of the respondents and over 4/5 of the families felt economic stresses. 1/3 of the respondents had debts and 1/5 had not any savings. Most of the families were in good or normal marriage relationships, experienced economic crises, and had sparing habit. 2. In out-of-job families, couple cohension, couple satisfaction, and total marriage relationships were lower than in-job families. Also, out-of-job families spared more in buying and using clothes and foods, total clothes living and total food living. 3. In out-of-job families, the economic pressures on marriage relationships, clothes living, and food living were stronger than in-job families. 4. Family resources such as savings, ordinary marriage relationships, and sparing habit effected on the marriage relationships, clothes living, and food living in out-of-job families and in-job families.   • This study was conducted to examine the meaning and motivation for family leisure activities, and to analyze how the family's attitude and motivation affect the satisfaction over family leisure activities. The participants of this study were sixty-five married couples who were living in Seoul. Sata were analyzed by frequency, mean, ANOVA, T-Test, and Duncan test. The major results of this research were as follows; first, there were statistically significant differences in the meanings the families attributed to, and motivations for, family leisure activities according to social-demographic characteristics (gender, age, education, job, and income and debt levels). Second, satisfaction over family leisure activities was affected by their meanings and motivations. The participants who participated voluntarily in family activities as 'leisure activities' showed a higher level of satisfaction.

A Study on the urban housewives wedding behavior and satisfaction - focus on the housewives who have been married for less than five years - (도시주부의 혼례행동 및 혼례만족에 관한 연구 - 결혼 5년 이내의 주부를 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate (1)the level of the urban housewives’behavior and satisfaction of wedding, (2)the influential factors related to the two dependent variables above mentioned. So that provides some fundamental materials to improve the level of sound wedding culture and the whole home living. The subjects were 356 housewives, in April, 1997, Seoul. The data obtained were analyzed by Mean, Pearson’s correlation, Stepwise Multiple Regression and Path Analysis. The major findings were as follows: 1) The general tendency of the housewives’wedding behavior and satisfaction was reasonable. 2) According to the background variables(ie: marital form, the existence of job, the recognition degree of her husband’s family’s living standards, the recognition degree of her parents’home’s living standards, the perception of marital transactions), the housewives’wedding behavior was significantly different. 3) According to (1)the background variables(ie: communication frequency in household, self-acceptance, the adequacy of household income, educational level), (2)intermediated variable(ie: articles essential to a marriage), the housewives’wedding satisfaction was significantly different. 4) The indirect variable of the positive influence for housewives’satisfaction of wedding was marital form, the existence of job. the indirect variable of the negative influence for housewives’satisfaction of wedding was the recognition degree of her husband’s family’s living standards, the recognition degree of her parents’home’s living standards, the perception of marital transfactions.

The Self-esteem of the Elderly and Relative Influence of Variables (노인의 자아존중감과 변수들의 상대적 영향력)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate levels of self-esteem and related variables among the elderly. The data is from the Korea Welfare Panel Study conducted in 2007. The data was gathered from 2077 elderly, over 65 years old, and was analyzed by Step multiple regression analysis. The major results were as follows. First, the overall level of self-esteem was in the middle range, with an average of 28.18 points. Second, self-esteem levels showed significant differences in terms of gender, age, education level, health, spouse, health insurance, job, monthly household expenses, national pension, assets, home ownership, satisfaction with spouse, satisfaction with leisure, satisfaction with social network, economic services, medical services, and other services. Finally, Model 1 showed meaningful influences from gender, age, education level, health, spouse, and health insurance. Model 2 showed meaningful influences from education level, health, spouse, health insurance, job, and national pension. Models 3 and 4 showed meaningful influences from education level, health, job, satisfaction of spouse, satisfaction with leisure, and satisfaction with social network. In other words, the factors that had the most significant impact on self-esteem were satisfaction.
