  • In this study, FAISC (Family Activity for Improving Scientific Creativity) program was developed and applied to 12 families. FAISC consists of 12 tasks and 12 evaluation papers. Family participants conducted the task individually and evaluated their performance results through discussion and agreement. From the participants' responses, it was found that FAISC tasks were fun but weakly difficult. Participants responded that Guide 1 (Creative thinking methods) and Guide 2 (Related knowledge) were helpful in their performance, and their scientific creativity was enhanced. From the analysis of interview and video recording of participants' behaviors, various positive aspects were observed. Especially on cognitive aspects, harmonious and pleasant family activities were observed. Negative aspects observed in interview and video gave us a practical guide for more effective performance in further application. Finally, according to comparison of evaluation results by family and professionals, the correlation between them was .901. Therefore, we conclude that evaluation of creative activity by family is highly confidential.

  • This study examined the differences of elderly workers' psychological well-being according to gender and explored the variables which account for their psychological well-being. Paid laborers aged 60 or older(eight-five men and nine-eight females) were interviewed. The psychological well-being of male workers was higher than that of the female workers. The control level of activity and family support were the variables that explained the psychological well-being of male paid workers. The higher the control level of activity was, and the more support given from family, the higher the psychological well-being scores they showed. Educational level, demand level of activity, and material reward determined the psychological well-being of female workers. The higher their educational level was, the lower the demand level of activity was, and the fewer rewards they received from paid work, the higher their psychological well-being was.

  • This qualitative case study focused on two types of livable, family-friendly communities and their activities. The landscaping, the community library, and the Dongbu Apartment Residents' Committee were examined in relationship to the everyday lives of the community's residents through observation and an in-depth interview. The experiences and thoughts of two representatives and four volunteers were described in detail. This study implies the importance of activity as well as a visible effort to improve quality of life. Further, it implies the necessity of a long-tenn perspective and commitment to developing a livable community base with strategies consistent with integrity and the values of everyday life. Above all, we researchers emphasize the most important factor of the livable community is the third sector; a public space based on everyday life located between a structurally separate work space and family space.

  • The researcher worked with 1001 middle and high school students so as to inquire into family-related variables affecting adolescents' school life maladjustment, relying on average, standard deviation and hierarchical regression. The following are the major findings. 1) The research shows that to look into school life maladjustment on the basis of analysis models including family environment variables and family relationship variables in addition to family background variables offers more explanatory power. 2) Of all the variables, parent relationship variables turned out to have the greatest influences on maladjustment to teacher relationship and teaming activity areas among the subordinate areas of school life maladjustment. 3) Of all the variables, family's physical variables have the greatest influence on maladjustment to regulation-keeping relationship and opposite sex relationship among the subordinate areas of school life maladjustment. 4) Of all the variables, sibling relationship variables have the greatest influence on maladjustment to friendship among the subordinate areas of school life maladjustment. 5) Parent relationship variables have the greatest influence on total school life maladjustment followed by family physical environment, structural environment, the number of family members, cultural environment and residential variables in the right order.

  • Purpose: This study examined the perceived quality of life of families of individuals with developmental disabilities who regularly participate in physical activities. It also explored differences in the quality of family life based on variables such as family relationships, family income, gender, disability type, and age. Methods: A survey was administered to 69 family members of individuals with developmental disabilities who regularly participate in physical activities. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent samples t-test, and one-way analysis of variance. Results: The average overall quality of life for families of individuals with developmental disabilities who participate in continuous physical activities was 3.49. After analyzing each subtype, psychological health was found to be 3.91, the burden for people with developmental disabilities was 2.75, community participation was 3.76, cohesion was 3.83, and openness was 3.49. No statistically significant differences were found in family relationships or family classes, disability type, age, or gender of the individuals with developmental disabilities across the variables. Conclusion: When planning service development and support to improve the quality of life for families of individuals with developmental disabilities, it is necessary to develop systematic programs at the family level rather than providing support based on various variables.

  • The Lauraceae family has commercial uses, such as in the food, pharmaceutical, and perfume industries. This study was conducted to investigate anti-asthmatic activity of essential oils from the seven species in the Lauraceae family. The essential oils were extracted from the leaves of seven species, and the chemical composition was investigated by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The major constituents of essential oils differed depending on the species, even if they belonged to the same family. The main constituents were camphor (89.09%) in Cinnamomum camphora, linalool (26.91%) in Cinnamomum cassia, 1,8-cineole (23.90%) in Cinnamomum japonicum, d-limonene (10.27%) and β-eudesmol (10.03%) in Lindera obtusiloba, δ-cadinene (13.85%) and α-phellandrene (11.57%) in Machilus japonica, cis-,trans-β-ocimene (13.80% and 12.06%) and elemol (11.46%) in Neolitsea aciculata, and cis-β-ocimene (37.94%) and sabinene (24.91%) in Neolitsea sericea. The anti-asthmatic activity of essential oils was investigated using the lipopolysaccharide-induced NCI-H292 cells. The relative expression levels of the pro-inflammatory cytokines [interleukin (IL)-1β and IL-6] and mucus gene (MUC5AC and MUC5B) were significantly reduced by essential oils from seven species in the Lauraceae family. Among the seven essential oils, the essential oil from L. obtusiloba had the most superior anti-asthmatic activity. These results suggest that the essential oil of L. obtusiloba leaves could be used as an agent to suppress mucus hypersecretion.

A total of 3,851 married women were selected from the database of the Fourth Korea Longitudinal Survey of Women and Families(KLoWF) in 2015-2016. In univariate analysis, there was statistically significant differences parents residence type, couple activity, family care and connubial bliss according to socio-demographic characteristics. Moreover, when the parents residence type is short distance, connubial bliss is higher, couple activity is more active and family care is more friendly attitued. By the result of sobel test, parents residence type was indirectly influenced on connubial bliss mediated to couple activity and family care. However, parents residence type was no directly influenced on connubial bliss mediated. The results of these studies will help design policy plans to improve the relationship between spouses and family members in a universal nuclear family society.
