As buildings become higher, larger, and more complex, safety issues for construction workers working at such environments become more important. We analyzed 83 critical accident cases reported to the KOSHA(Korea Occupational Safety & Health Agency) for construction cranes by types of cranes and by patterns of accidents and causes. There are more number of accidents related to mobile cranes than that related to tower cranes, but the numbers of dead were similar in both cases. The most dominant cause of crane accidents was "fall of materials". We also analyzed the cases of crane accidents using the FMEA(Failure Mode and Effect Analysis) in order to set up a priority for safety management and also to prioritize research and development items relating tower cranes. In the process, we tried to eliminate subjective indexes such as an expert group survey and use objective and quantitative indexes. As a result, it was found that critical crane accidents occurs most during the "lifting and translating" activity.

Recently, safety accidents in construction sites are increasing. Accordingly, in this study, development of 'Big-Data Analysis Modeling' can collect articles from last 10 years which came from the Internet News and draw the cause of accidents that happening per season. In order to apply this study, Web Crawling Modeling that can collect 98% of desired information from the internet by using 'Xml', 'tm', "Rcurl' from the library of R, a statistical analysis program has been developed, and Datamining Model, which can draw useful information by using 'Principal Component Analysis' on the result of Work Frequency of 'Textmining.' Through Web Crawling Modeling, 7,384 out of 7,534 Internet News articles that have been posted from the past 10 years regarding "safety Accidents in construction sites", and recognized the characteristics of safety accidents that happening per season. The result showed that accidents caused by abnormal temperature and localized heavy rain, occurred frequently in spring and winter, and accidents caused by violation of safety regulations and breakdown of structures occurred frequently in spring and fall. Plus, the fact that accidents happening from collision of heavy equipment happens constantly every season was acknowledgeable. The result, which has been obtained from "Big-Data Analysis Modeling" corresponds with prior studies. Thus, the study is reliable and able to be applied to not only construction sites but also in the overall industry.

Many of the falling which is the number one risk factor in lethal accidents in construction could have been prevented if the right activity or supervising had been taken in time. All other measures do not preventive the fall, but rather intercept the fallen itself or preventive severe injury. The most common and the bets measures on the preventive measures are guardrails which are to be worn on the site. Workers always exposed the risk of serious accidents induced by causal effects related with environments around construction sites. In order to represent how to decrease the risk of workers, this study was accomplished with a number of interview with experienced site director, cheief of instructors, workers. And the questionaire survey (2012. 5~2012. 10) were used to make proposed policies which are expected to reduce critical disastrous accidents and strength authorized limits of director's management automatically.
This study aimed to compare fear and prevention behaviors on accidents between mothers and teachers in family childcare centers. The participants were 117 mothers whose children were 0~2 year-olds and 121 teachers. Based on Hendrickson(2008) and Reichert & Henricks(1996), the scale was developed by the researcher, and it was composed of fear and prevention behaviors on accident. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and $x^2$ analysis. Results showed that mothers feared fall accidents and step-on-accidents while teachers feared suffocation accidents and liability for injury medical fee. Also, mothers did more prevention behaviors on use of car seats than teachers, whereas teachers did more behaviors on walk safety, custody of drugs and dangerous articles, and food safety.
Subcontracting business than the contracting business in shipbuilding industry is a lot of hazardous job and highly accident because of highly work intensity. In order to prevent the accidents, there is a need to analyze characteristic. of shipbuilding, to apply measures of risk assessment. In this paper, I suggested an improvement of the risk assessment through the actual condition research in shipbuilding industry. In the research method, I analysed accidents occurred until 2011-2013. Carried out the actual site survey while two weeks in May 2014. As a result, 1) The main pattern were caught-in or between, fall on the high level according to analyzed accidents. 2) To apply the weight show clear of magnitude for risk assessment. 3) Risk estimation of risk assessment is desirable to be quantization by accidents analysis, and to be greater than or equal to 4 steps.

The injuries as a result of fall accidents is the one of the most common kind of injuries in Korea, especially fall from height is the top most common kind for fatal injuries. Futhermore, the number of fall injuries in manufacturing industry has been steadily increasing from 2000 to 2007. In 2007 the number of fall fatal injuries increased 10.6 % in comparison with the number in 2006. These numbers are 6~17 times higher than those for foreign countries such as the U.K and the USA. So, it is needed to make a study to reduce these numbers for manufacturing industry. To get the goals, we did research as followings. First, this study analyzed statistics by industry, by fall height, by common agent and so on to gain an insight into real aspect of fall injuries. It showed that ladder is the commonly cited agent for manufacturing industry, and 3 risky activities ; the ladder work, the load/unload work, and the maintenance work. Secondly, this study made a survey of manufacturing workers for their understandings of the most 3 risky activities. It showed that 'tendency to work easily' and 'difficulty of applying measures due to inherent working conditions' are main reasons for workers not to implement the preventive measures against the fall accidents. Thirdly, this study tested the slip characteristics of ladder base and lungs. The tests were done based on ANSI standard and KS. In addition to the standard condition, this study performed slip tests in wet and sandy conditions and compared the results with the those of standard condition. It showed that friction coefficient is standard condition > wet condition > sandy condition, and the friction coefficient of ladder for sandy condition is measured to be reduced by 63.9% compared with that for standard condition. Finally, this study developed safety work models for using of portable ladders in consideration of the safety standards of foreign countries such as the U.K, the USA, and the Australia.
Falls are accidents that can happen throughout the overall period of human life and their results are very fatal and have a serious negative effect on individuals and society. In case of aged people, even though they live in places where dangerous risks of falls are prevalent, they cannot improve their residential environment for themselves. Therefore, this study intends to prove the effects of fall prevention education by providing fall prevention education to spatial design majoring students in order to improve their perception about the falls and fall prevention environments and their social responsibility as a designer. This study was designed as Quasi-experimental study, and 121 beginners to spatial design received the education. As a result, the effects of education was proved by showing improvements on their awareness about the fall risks, the importance of fall prevention environment and social responsibility as a designer. In addition, after the education students could know more about spatial elements for fall prevention and they specified the details of important environmental factors for fall prevention. Generally, fall prevention education has been given to aged people and this is a first example of fall prevention education that was given to younger generation. It is meaningful that fall prevention education has changed the awareness of the students to help them work in spatial environment design with a strong sense of responsibility as an expert of spatial designer in future.

The death rate of industrial accidents per 10,000 people in Korea is two to three times higher than that of major countries. Falling accidents at the construction site happened to have caused the most deaths. Analysis of existing research and measures by national institutions showed that the industrial accident management concentrated on falling accidents was insufficient and the seasonal safety management measures were not enough. There is thus the need for research that provides detailed and enough information on falling accidents. This study, therefore, aims to overcome the limitations of existing research and safety management accident response using a methodology that provides the necessary information for the prevention of fall accidents by deriving seasonal crash characteristics of the construction site. In order to provide enough information, 387 cases of seasonal construction site falling were collected, which describes the causal relationship of accidents. Text mining using principal component analysis and cluster analysis was carried out. The analysis showed that: In the spring, snowfall and unreasonable operation of equipment including lifts were the major cause. In summer, most accidents were caused by form, insufficient safety inspection, and installation work. In autumn, weather factors such as wind and typhoon were the cause. In winter, material transportation, exterior wall work, and ignore safety precautions were the cause of the crash.
This study aims to develop protective pants to relieve impact from falls and to present basic data for the development. The survey results are as follows; First, 45% of the respondents were in their 60s and 55% of them were in their over 70s and older. Also, 64% of them have fallen once for the past year and 36% of them have fallen twice or more. The older they were, the more there were those who have fallen twice or more. This indicated the older people has experienced more fall accidents again after a initial fall accident. Second, as per accident situations, the survey showed that fall accidents happened the most in the winter and in the afternoon (12-18 pm). Also, it happened on a street mostly and they were wearing sneakers or hiking boots when they got a hurt slipped in a front or side by missing their step in a walk. The injury areas are mostly knee and ankle. They had the bruises or a sprain in their knee and ankle mostly. The rate of bone fracture was 19.5%. Therefore, the protection area to falls in lower body is the knee. But hip and hip joint should be protected with knee as well because those are usually be broken when it is damaged. Third, approximately 80% of those who were hospitalized for treatment had surgery. Patients who had surgery were rather in their over 70s than in their 60s. The older they were, the more serious their fracture was. The period of hospital or outpatient treatment is more than three weeks in many cases. They responded their health got worse after falls. Aftereffects of accidents were physical discomfort, anxiety and medical costs. Falls to the old makes physical damage, psychological damage, which cause reduced physical activity and the increased cost of health care with economic losses. So it results on a negative impact on the life of the old. Fourth, elderly females were rarely aware of impact protective clothing and they have never purchased such clothing. For impact protective pants, the major consideration was suitable design for their body types. They liked casual style with front or side pockets and simple designs without any patterns or decorations. As per pants materials, they responded that they need functionality, activity and elasticity. Among the functional points, insulation of cloths are considered importantly, so the heat reservance of material in the impact protective pants should be considered carefully.
The present situation of Korea already shone various symptoms of the aged society, and many kinds of data reported by the National Statistical Office demonstrate those facts. However, to my regret, sufficient efforts for aged workers are not taken in the area of industrial safety. In this research, work arrangement and industrial accidents of middle-aged and aged workers over last 5 years were analyzed. According to research results, proportion of industrial accidents involved middle-aged and aged workers was as high as 40%, and that of aged workers alone was so high as 25%. In addition, proportion of accidents were higher than that of worker population f3r aged wetters. Considering ages, it was demonstrated that as workers get older, mean number of accidents shows the tendency of going higher, and that as years go by, mean lost work-days are increasing regardless of age group. Main accident types were Fall followed by Slip, and Work-Related Disease, furthermore proportion of Slip was highest than any other types for aged workers. Based upon these results, it was emphasized thai careful attention should be paid to functional characteristics of aged workers, and that modification of accident prevention policy would be necessary.
