Falls are accidents that can happen throughout the overall period of human life and their results are very fatal and have a serious negative effect on individuals and society. In case of aged people, even though they live in places where dangerous risks of falls are prevalent, they cannot improve their residential environment for themselves. Therefore, this study intends to prove the effects of fall prevention education by providing fall prevention education to spatial design majoring students in order to improve their perception about the falls and fall prevention environments and their social responsibility as a designer. This study was designed as Quasi-experimental study, and 121 beginners to spatial design received the education. As a result, the effects of education was proved by showing improvements on their awareness about the fall risks, the importance of fall prevention environment and social responsibility as a designer. In addition, after the education students could know more about spatial elements for fall prevention and they specified the details of important environmental factors for fall prevention. Generally, fall prevention education has been given to aged people and this is a first example of fall prevention education that was given to younger generation. It is meaningful that fall prevention education has changed the awareness of the students to help them work in spatial environment design with a strong sense of responsibility as an expert of spatial designer in future.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is designed to identity the extent of geriatric hospital nurse's knowledge attitude and fall prevention activities toward falls, thereby identifying the relationship between them. Methods: Knowledge of the falls targeting 350 people who work in the nurse elderly hospital, located at J city, attitudes about fall prevention activity data were collected for nurses working in the geriatric hospital. The collected data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheff's test, correlation coefficients. Results: Attitude and prevention activities of fall showed that there is a correlation. Showed that age was a significant effect on falls prevention activities age 45 years and olde and attitude. The higher the fall prevention activities were found to be low. Conclusion: In relationship between knowledge, attitudes and prevention activities regarding falls, knowledge about falls had no correlation with attitude and prevention activities and a correlation was found between attitudes and prevention activity regarding falls. Accordingly, it is required to implement training program to improve nurse's attitude to falls, and repetitive fall prevention training and education is expected to contribute to increasing the practice of fall prevention activity.

Purpose: This study aims to establish a theoretical framework for the fall prevention behavior improvement program by verifying the associations between fracture risk, fall risk perception, and fall prevention behaviors in women with osteoporosis. Methods: A survey was conducted in 122 women who were diagnosed as osteoporosis by having T-score of the femur bone density below -2.5 standard deviation from the bone density examination performed in 2 orthopedic clinics located in B metropolitan city between July 2014 and September 2014. The risk of fracture, level of fall risk perception, and fall prevention behaviors were measured. Results: Fall risk perception had a complete mediating effect on the relationship between the fracture risk and fall prevention behaviors in women with osteoporosis. Conclusion: The perception of fall risk is important to enhance fall prevention behaviors in women with osteoporosis, and the development of various education programs to improve awareness of fall risk is needed.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of a fall prevention program on gait ability, one leg standing-right, one leg standing-left, fear of falling, fall efficacy, and depression in the elderly. Methods: A fall prevention program was consisted of fall preventing exercise with laughter therapy. Quasi-experimental design with one group pre- and post-test was used. Twenty-two elderly were participated in this study from a community health center located in a rural area, South Korea. SPSS/WIN 18.0 was used for descriptive analysis and paired t-test. Results: After 12 weeks with a fall prevention program, gait ability (t=3.44, p=.002), one leg standing-right (t=-3.73, p=.001), one leg standing-left (t=-4.17, p<.001) and fear of falling (t=2.12, p=.046) in the elderly were significantly improved. Conclusion: A fall prevention program was effective on physical and psychological functions. This study suggested that control groups and a larger sample should be included in order to validate the effects of a fall prevention program for the elderly. Key Words: Elderly, Fall prevention program, Physical functions, Psychological
Purpose: This research was conducted to determine the effects of fall prevention exercise and education on physical fitness, fall efficacy, and fall prevention behavior among community-dwelling older adults. Methods: This study applied nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design. Data were collected from January 8th to March 4th, 2015. There were 24 subjects in the experimental group and 21 in the control group from two different senior citizen center in B city. The fall prevention program consisted of exercise, education, and telephone coaching was developed using self-efficacy theory: 'Performance accomplishment', 'Vicarious experience', 'Verbal persuasion', 'Emotional arousal'. Then, it was conducted once a week for 8 weeks. Data were analyzed with $x^2$ test and t-test using the SPSS program. Results: The findings indicated that fall prevention program conducted on older adults is good for improving their muscular strength in lower extremities (t=6.25, p<.001), physical balance (t=2.66, p=.014), physical flexibility (t=2.88, p<.001) and fall prevention behavior (t=6.19, p<.001). Conclusion: The fall prevention program can be used for community-dwelling older adults as a nursing intervention that enables older adults to enhance their self-care continuously. It is necessary to conduct a follow-up study to see if a self-help meeting could improve self-efficacy.
Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the effect of a fall prevention education on the fall related knowledge and fall prevention behavior of the elderly patients in comprehensive nursing care service wards. Method: A quasi experimental study with control group and experimental group was used. A total 62 elderly patients in comprehensive nursing care service wards were randomly divided into the experimental group(n=30) and the control group(n=32). The data collection period was from August to December, 2017. Data were analyzed with $X^2-test$, paired t-test, independent t-test and Pearson's correlation coefficient by using SPSS 25.0. Results: Experimental group reported higher score in fall related knowledge than the control group(t=-10.28, p<.001). Participants who viewed DVD and received the leaflet education reported higher score than those with routine admission education(t=-6.51, p<.001). The experimental group showed significant improvement in fall related knowledge and fall prevention behavior(r=.21, p=.015). Conclusion: The fall prevention program was effective in improving fall-related knowledge and fall prevention behavior among elderly patients. Since the DVD plus leaflet education was effective in improving prevention behaviors, it might be included in routine orientation on admission for the elderly patient in comprehensive nursing care service wards.
Purpose: The study evaluated the effects of a fall prevention program in a Korean rural area. Methods: A single pretest-posttest design group was studied. Thirty nine residents in the same rural area participated in a program comprised of education and exercise. The 5-week fall prevention program was performed for 60 minutes, once a week. Results: Fall Efficacy Scale (FES) score and Activities-specific of Balance Confidence Scale (ABC) score were significantly increased after the program, but the pre-and posttest FES and ABS scores were not significantly different between the fall experience group and non-fall experience group. Conclusion: The fall prevention program can improve rural residents' FES and ABS, and is recommended as a fall prevention intervention.
Purpose: This study was done to propose and test a predictive model that would explain and predict fall prevention behaviors in postmenopausal women. The health belief model was the theoretical basis to aid development of a nursing intervention fall prevention program. Methods: Data for 421 postmenopausal women were selected from an original data set using a survey design. The structural equation model was tested for 3 constructs: modifying factors, expectation factors, and threat factors. Expectation factors were measured as relative perceived benefit (perceived benefit minus perceived barrier), self-efficacy, and health motivation; threat factors, as perceived susceptibility (fear of falling) and perceived severity (avoiding activity for fear of falling); and modifying factors: level of education and knowledge about fall prevention. Data were analyzed using SPSS Windows and AMOS program. Results: Mean age was 55.7 years (range 45-64), and 19.7% had experienced a fall within the past year. Fall prevention behaviors were explained by expectation and threat factors indicating significant direct effects. Mediating effect of health beliefs was significant in the relationship between modifying factors and fall prevention behaviors. The proposed model explained 33% of the variance. Conclusion: Results indicate that fall prevention education should include knowledge, expectation, and threat factors based on health belief model.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the factors affected with nurses' prevention activity against hospital fall. Methods: The data were collected from 325 nurses at C University Hospital in G City by using the structured questionnaires from February 21, 2011 to March 12, 2011. The data were analyzed by stepwise multiple regression. Results: The main factor associated with prevention activity against hospital fall was the attitude towards hospital fall (${\beta}$=.26, p<.001), the next one was the educational level (${\beta}$=.16, p=.002), and the last one was the frequency of fall prevention education (${\beta}$=.14, p=.009). The all factors could explain 11.1% of the variance in the nurses' prevention activities against hospital fall. Conclusion: Hospital managers need to make hospital culture to enhance the nurse's positive attitude about hospital fall prevention. In addition, educators need to develop educational programs including hospital fall prevention through academic curriculum and continuing education.
In construction industries, the problem areas in safety are different to those of manufacturing. For instance, construction safety efforts must strongly emphasize fall prevention, whereas caught-in/ between incidents and electrical shocks are common in manufacturing. This paper reports an analysis of fall incidents that lead to fatalities in 1999 and in 2000. It also provides a safety plan for fall prevention by analyzing the origins of fall incidents by their trades and locations of concern. The findings of this study are expected to contribute toward reducing fall incidents in construction industry.
