Rate Proportional SCFQ Algorithm for High-Speed Packet-Switched Networks

  • Self-Clocked Fair Queueing (SCFQ) algorithm has been considered as an attractive packet scheduling algorithm because of its implementation simplicity, but it has unbounded delay property in some input traffic conditions. In this paper, we propose a Rate Proportional SCFQ (RP-SCFQ) algorithm which is a rate proportional version of SCFQ. If any fair queueing algorithm can be categorized into the rate proportional class and input is constrained by a leaky bucket, its delay is bounded and the same as that of Weighted Fair Queueing (WFQ) which is known as an optimal fair queueing algorithm. RP-SCFQ calculates the timestamps of packets arriving during the transmission of a packet using the current value of system potential updated at every packet departing instant and uses a starting potential when it updates the system potential. By doing so, RP-SCFQ can have the rate proportional property. RP-SCFQ is appropriate for high-speed packet-switched networks since its implementation complexity is low while it guarantees the bounded delay even in the worst-case input traffic conditions.

  • In the Internet, to guarantee transmission rate and delay and to achieve fair bandwidth allocation, many per-flow scheduling algorithms, such as fair queueing, which have many desirable properties for congestion control, have been proposed and designed. However, algorithms based on per-flow need maintain rate state, buffer management and packet scheduling, so that it cost great deal : implement. Therefore, in this paper, to implement routers cost-effectively, we propose CS-FNE algorithm based on FNE in Core-Stateless network We evaluate CS-FNE comparing with four additional algorithms i.e., CSFQ, FRED, RED and DRR, in several different, configurations and traffic sources. Through simulation results, we show that CS-FNE algorithm can allocate fair bandwidth approximately and is simpler and easier to implement than other per-flow basis queueing mechanisms.

  • It is required to develop a rational transmission tariff system to ensure the fair participation of the players in the market. This study suggests an improved transmission tariff system which classifies the line capacity into line usage and reliability capacity based on their use and reasonably allocates the costs incurred by each of them to users. In addition, it takes the system load variations into consideration.

  • In IEEE 802.11e system providing differentiated services, there exist some problems as follows; collision probability increase due to the increase in the number of nodes by employing CSMA/CA transmission mode, transmission speed declining tendency towards the worst of it, which is caused by different transmission mode and decrease of TCP transmission rate as the result of the link occupancy by UDP when TCP shares the link with UDP by the TCP’s flow control characteristic. In this thesis, the initial minimum and maximum CW are set differently according to the number of connected nodes in the network to avoid collisions and TXOP is adjusted according to the channel state, in which ACs with low priority but better channel state will get gradually more chances to transmit leading to optimal channel capacity. Also, by allowing higher priority for ACK frames which control the TCP transmission, the flow control becomes better because that reduces the channel occupancy by UDP flow, and by this, fair transmission is obtained from the result of the more fair transmission and active resource allocation.

  • The efficient and rational transmission tariff structure is one of the crucial factors in creation of fair and competitive electricity markets. Transmission charge can be largely categorized into the line usage charge, system reliability charge, access charge and others. Any transmission tariff should be able to reflect these cost components reasonably. This paper suggests an approach amenable to allocating the transmission reliability costs reasonably with reflection of line sensitivity and line outage rate.

  • This study is concerned with the investigation of characteristics of an AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) which are composed of clutch part and transmission part. When a shilling signal is received from the controller, the clutch is disengaged first, and shifting action including selecting action is followed, and then the clutch is engaged last. The characteristics of transmission shifting response are affected by various parameters of clutch and transmission control elements. Analytical results are in fair agreement with experimental results. It is found that the operating pressure level is the most important for the response of AMT characteristics, and that the other parameters such as natural frequency and damping ratio of the control valve are less important.

  • This paper presents an application of UML(Unified Modeling Language) to develop the Transmission Loss Calculation Package (TLCP) and shows a feasibility of UML design for the power system analyzing software. In the rapidly restructuring electric power industry, it is required the development of efficient and transparent transmission pricing mechanism. This should be based to calculate an accurate transmission loss to prompt a fair competition and to give unbiased signals to all the market players. For those reasons, it is necessary to develop a software system for transmission loss calculation. In this paper, we design the TLCP based on UML, and describe using Rational Rose 2000.

Because of economic efficiency, marginal pricing method has been studied to be applied to transmission pricing methodology. In application of marginal pricing method to transmission pricing, revenue reconciliation must be needed to recover Transco's revenue requirements. This paper presents a reconciliation method based on line's value to transmission service user.

  • Transmission pricing is one of important issues related to competitive electricity markets since rational pricing scheme ensures a fair competition between the market participants. Any application of marginal pricing method to transmission pricing may accompany revenue reconciliation to recover Transco's revenue requirements. This paper presents an alternative methodology on revenue reconciliation with customer benefit function and power flow.
