This article reviewed transport behaviours of electroactive species in ionic compounds, focusing on chemical diffusion of Li through the transition metal oxide in a current flowing condition. For this purpose, a distinction has been first briefly made between migration and diffusion with respect to current, driving force and charge of electroactive species considered. Then, the equations for chemical diffusion are derived theoretically in open-circuit and current flowing conditions. Finally, the experimental methods such as ac impedance spectroscopy and current (potential) transient techniques are described in details for characterising chemical diffusion. In addition, the role of the thermodynamic enhancement factor in chemical diffusion is discussed.
In this work, the effects of chemical treatment of polyimide films were studied by FT-IR, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), atomic force microscopy (AFM) and contact angles. The adhesion characteristics of the films were also investigated in the peel strengths of polyimide/aluminum films. The increases of surface functional groups of KOH-treated polyimide films were greatly correlated with the polar component of surface free energy. The peel strength of polyimides to metal substrate was also greatly enhanced by increasing the KOH treatment time, which can be attributed to the formation of polar functional groups on the polyimide surfaces, resulting in enhancement of the work of adhesion between polymer film and metal plate.
An analysis is made of the fully developed laminar flow and heat transfer in a parallel flat plate with heated rectangular block arrays to investigated the influence of bouyancy force. The shrouds is considered as adiabatic, while the heated block surface transmit a uniform rate of heat flux per unit axial length. The governing equations for velocity and temperature are solved by SIMPLE(Semi-Implicit Method Pressure Linked Equation) algorithm. Detailed velocity and temperature fields and overall heat transfer on wide range of Rayleigh number and various aspect ratios of heated rectangular blocks are computed. The result show that bouyancy leads to a significient enhancement in heat transfer along with a smaller increase in pressure drop, with the great enhancement found when the aspect ratio is 3.0.
A numerical study has been conducted to investigate the effect of an inlet flow pulsation on mixing of two solutions with different concentrations in a micro conduit. We treat an unsteady, incompressible and two-dimensional flow through a micro conduit by adopting the momentum equations with the electrostatic force due to streaming current and the concentration equation. The feasibility of the inlet flow pulsation to enhance the mixing process inside the micro conduit is carefully examined by varying the inlet pulsation frequency. When a low-frequency pulsation is induced at the inlet, the interface between two solutions with different concentrations becomes wavy, which results in mixing enhancement. As the pulsation frequency increases, the waviness of the interface becomes meager, and the concentration gradients at the interface approach the value for the non-pulsating steady flow.

Redox cycling in between the two working electrodes in an electrochemical cell can lead a great signal enhancement. In this work, we report on a systematic examination of current amplification along with the decrease in the gap distance of a nanogap device which was fabricated by the combination of photo and chemical lithography [1]. The gap distance was controlled by the chemical lithographic process of surfacecatalyzed growth of metallic layer on pre-defined electrodes with wider initial gap. Enhancement of the redox current of ferri/ferrocyanide was observed upon gap distance reduction and the current is amplified about a thousand times in this redox system when the gap distance was decreased from 200 nm to 30 nm. The experimental results were discussed on the basis of the cyclic voltammetry (CV), atomic force microscopy (AFM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).

We demonstrate a high-speed recording based on field-induced manipulation in combination with an optical reading of recorded bits on Au cluster films using the atomic force microscope (AFM) and the near-field scanning optical microscope (NSOM). We reproduced 50 nm-sized mounds by applying short electrical pulses to conducting tips in a non-contact mode as a writing process. The recorded marks were then optically read using bent fiber probes in a transmission mode. A strong enhancement of light transmission is attributed to the local surface plasmon excitation on the protruded dots.

In this study, the influence of the intermolecular distance on the charge mobility in a pentacene thin-film was investigated. In order to increase the mobility which depends on the ${\pi}$-overlap between molecules, the intermolecular distance was shortened by compressive force along the conduction channel. Pentacene thin-film was fabricated on flexible substrates bent outward at different radii to stretch the gate dielectric surface and then the substrates were unbent, producing the compressive force to the film. The result showed that the mobility increased proportionally to the strain applied during the pentacene deposition and the molecular packing inside a grain was not optimal for the charge transport.

Enhancement of the accuracy of products and productivity are essential to survive in a global industrial competition. This trend requires tighter dimensional tolerance specifications. To actively cope with the rapid change of the workpiece material and cutter geometry, a general method that can predict and analyze the machined surface is needed. Surface generation model for the prediction of the topography of machined surfaces is developed based on cutting force model considering cutter deflection and runout. This paper presents the method that constructs the three-dimensional machined surface error following the movement of a cutter, irrespective of the variations of cutting conditions. In addition, the effects of the cutting forces and the kink shape on the machined surface are extensively investigated.

In order to achieve high precision machine tools, Performance enhancement of feed drive systems is required. One of the important technical issues is how to decrease thermal expansion of ball screw in proportion to the increase of machining speed. When measuring force of stretch of ball screw, since not only actual expansion and the value of bending have to be considered, it is impossible to define the exact value of expansion. In addition, support bearings of ball screw gain considerable force in axial direction. It also generates thermal expansion on the ball screw, and deteriorates the performances of the hearings. In conclusion, it is impossible to give the pretension enough to absorb all the elongation due to thermal expansion generated during machine is running. If given bed column and saddle are all bent to chance machine accuracy, and the support bearings of ball screw is damaged.
This paper describes the dynamic modeling of a railway vehicle when it is under braking force. It is important for the enhancement of braking performance to establish a proper dynamic model of a railway vehicle because the braking performance is affected by some dynamic forces generated by a railway vehicle when it undergoes braking. In this paper, a dynamic model for one vehicle is suggested to compute the dynamic behavior of a railway vehicle in the HILS(Hardware In-the-loop Simulation) system for the railway vehicle braking devices. To simplify the dynamic model, friction between a wheel and a rail is assumed that there exist only the static and the dynamic friction forces. Static friction coefficient is also assumed to be a function of the running speed. Some simulations are carried out with various braking forces, and the braking characteristics according to the change of the braking force are discussed. This study can provide some fundamental results to construct the HILS system for braking devices of a railway vehicle.
