  • During the past several years the ROK military has made an effort to build LVC synthetic battlefield that reflects the real world environment. In spite of its efforts, little has been accomplished. The disappointing achievement is mainly due to the lack of operational requirements and concepts, and policies or systematic approaches on the architecture and technology. Furthermore, there is insufficient understanding on the basic concepts and principles, and conflicting interests between organizations. In this study, I propose to construct an LVC based on the HLA that focuses on the system view and technical standard view, rather than the operational view. The proposed approach employs the information centric integration, focuses on an architecture convergence efforts based on the HLA/RTI, emphasizes the HLA compliance test and federation test, adapts to DSEEP, DMAO, and FEAT, and finally invents and implements an LVC Compliance Test System.

  • In this research, first of all, the special feat-ures of Haute Couture design world (1990∼1996) prevailed in Paris and Rome are investigated, and additionally the understanding of collection concept and design structure analysis are performed to show the various method-ology of creative design. Expression method and design method are the main criteria in analyzing, and the main results of this research are summarized as follows : 1. Most of designers in Paris and Rome ex-press the traditional costume style. Paris designers are focusing on the expression of design morphology through the abstraction and re-appearance without being confined to theme expression ; Rome designers are expressing their main ideas utilizing the fashion image as their theme in lieu of expressing the design morphology. 2. Most of the designers in Paris and Rome are using simple lines for their design. Paris designers prefer the plastic design based upon formal and symmetrical balance of informal and asymmetrical balance to the partial trans-formation design ; Rome designers are enjoy-ing rather the partial transformation using the detail and trimming than the plastic design.

  • In the present study, a new method of generating boundary-fitted coordinates systems controlled by control function is introduced. Application of the method to a three-dimensional simply-connected region is the demonstrated. The numerical grid generation has following feat ures, (a) The generated boundary fitted coordinates is well concentrated in near wall region and satisfied orthogonality, (b) The grid control function is fully automatic and well controlled in sharp convex boundary.

  • Hen's eggs have been regarded as one of the best animal bioreactors to produce biologically active peptides originated from many organisms including human. Despite the last decade's efforts to produce transgenic chicken for any commercial purposes, the results so far reported are very disappointing, indicating that hen's eggs are very difficult to crack for transgenesis. Comparatively large female gamete with enormous amount of yolk may be one of the major obstacles in achieving a similar feat to those of other vertebrate species including mouse, sheep, fish and frog. The delay or less efficiency evidenced may instruct to try an alternative way of gens transfer into chicken egg. Sperm-mediated gene transfer is one of them, and may require a great deal of understanding of mechanisms involved in early fertilization and embryonic development. In other animals where the technique was successful, basic mechanisms have been well studied and established only by painstaking efforts for decades. This paper discusses the accumulated knowledge on early fertilization mechanism in the chicken and how can this information be utilitzed to find the alternative gene transfer in making transgenic chicken.

  • For the Mo-tip field emitter array, the method by which the geometrical structure of the gate insulator wall could be modified in order to improve field emission properties(turn-on voltage and gate leakage current). The device having a gate insulator of complex shape, which means the combined geometrical structure with round shape made by wet etching and vertical shape made by dry etching processes, was fabricated and the field emission properties of the three kinds of devices were compared. As a result, the electric field applied to tip apex could be increased and gate leakage current could be decreased by employing the gate insulator having geometrical wall structure of mixed shape. Finally, the obtained empirical results were analyzed by simulation of electric field distribution at/near the tip apex and gate insulator using SNU-FEAT simulator.

  • Science fiction films touch coming-future themes, particularly those referring specifically to futuristic technology and its influence over human life. Dealing with the resistance of the replicants in the approaching millennium, Blade Runner brings the feat of modern civilization into doubt through the image of the dystopian future. In Blade Runner, a city is filled with waste, pollution, and dirt and a corrosive rain falls from the polluted clouds. Adorno criticizes contemporary society and its civilization. Characterizing advanced capitalist society by its total administration penetrating into every sphere of life, he contends that modern society promotes alienation, atomization, conformism, and fatalism. Blade Runner provides a chance to contemplate the problems of modern society, proposed by Adorno's critical works. Therefore, this paper attempts to analyze futuristic characteristics described in the film with Adorno's critique of modern society.

  • Electron beam trajectory simulation results on the high voltage FED with cone-type field emitters predict that the cross-talk phenomena would be seen due to the divergence of the electron beam. In this study, computer simulations with design of experiment technique and the SNU-FEAT program were carried out for five input parameters of the aperture focusing structure. The results tell that the focusing voltage is a dominant factor. And, the beam divergence index could be reduced to 10.7$\mu\textrm{m}$ with the aperture focusing structure, however, the operating voltage of the field emitter is predicted to increase by 40% maximum.

  • The Endless Column by Constantin Brâncuşi is "the most radical sculpture in the history of classic modernism", "the only one of modern times that can be compared with the great Egyptian, Greek and Renaissance monuments". It "is not only an artistic masterpiece, but also an extraordinary feat of engineering", the greatest example of collaboration between a sculptor and an engineer. This article illustrates the path that led the artist to conception of the column, its planning and construction, the investigations on preservation of the monument and its restoration, the aerodynamic tests in the wind tunnel, the modeling of the wind and the structure in virtue of which the aeroelastic instability, dynamic response and fatigue life were investigated. The conclusions discuss the column's role in the panorama of the great works of modern engineering.
