The purpose of this study is to reduce the dose to the patient by different application of ASIR according to the Body Mass Index (BMI). In particular, we wanted to find out the application values of ASIR that are most appropriate for the standard weight. Studies have shown that increasing the application of ASIR to 50% in patients with a body mass index of 25 or less reduces CTDIvol 58.17% and DLP 60.49% compared to using only FBP. A comparative analysis of the noise by the BMI and the SNR values found that the noise increased as the BMI increased, but the application of ASIR resulted in less noise than the FBP alone. In addition, it was found that the more ASIR is applied, the more SNR is increased.

Purpose: NEMA NU2-2001 was proposed as a new standard for performance evaluation of whole body PET scanners. in this study, system performance of Siemens CTI ECAT EXACT 47 PET scanner including spatial resolution, sensitivity, scatter fraction, and count rate performance in 2D and 3D mode was evaluated using this new standard method. Methods: ECAT EXACT 47 is a BGO crystal based PET scanner and covers an axial field of view (FOV) of 16.2 cm. Retractable septa allow 2D and 3D data acquisition. All the PET data were acquired according to the NEMA NU2-2001 protocols (coincidence window: 12 ns, energy window: $250{\sim}650$ keV). For the spatial resolution measurement, F-18 point source was placed at the center of the axial FOV((a) x=0, and y=1, (b)x=0, and y=10, (c)x=70, and y=0cm) and a position one fourth of the axial FOV from the center ((a) x=0, and y=1, (b)x=0, and y=10, (c)x=10, and y=0cm). In this case, x and y are transaxial horizontal and vertical, and z is the scanner's axial direction. Images were reconstructed using FBP with ramp filter without any post processing. To measure the system sensitivity, NEMA sensitivity phantom filled with F-18 solution and surrounded by $1{\sim}5$ aluminum sleeves were scanned at the center of transaxial FOV and 10 cm offset from the center. Attenuation free values of sensitivity wire estimated by extrapolating data to the zero wall thickness. NEMA scatter phantom with length of 70 cm was filled with F-18 or C-11solution (2D: 2,900 MBq, 3D: 407 MBq), and coincidence count rates wire measured for 7 half-lives to obtain noise equivalent count rate (MECR) and scatter fraction. We confirmed that dead time loss of the last flame were below 1%. Scatter fraction was estimated by averaging the true to background (staffer+random) ratios of last 3 frames in which the fractions of random rate art negligibly small. Results: Axial and transverse resolutions at 1cm offset from the center were 0.62 and 0.66 cm (FBP in 2D and 3D), and 0.67 and 0.69 cm (FBP in 2D and 3D). Axial, transverse radial, and transverse tangential resolutions at 10cm offset from the center were 0.72 and 0.68 cm (FBP in 2D and 3D), 0.63 and 0.66 cm (FBP in 2D and 3D), and 0.72 and 0.66 cm (FBP in 2D and 3D). Sensitivity values were 708.6 (2D), 2931.3 (3D) counts/sec/MBq at the center and 728.7 (2D, 3398.2 (3D) counts/sec/MBq at 10 cm offset from the center. Scatter fractions were 0.19 (2D) and 0.49 (3D). Peak true count rate and NECR were 64.0 kcps at 40.1 kBq/mL and 49.6 kcps at 40.1 kBq/mL in 2D and 53.7 kcps at 4.76 kBq/mL and 26.4 kcps at 4.47 kBq/mL in 3D. Conclusion: Information about the performance of CTI ECAT EXACT 47 PET scanner reported in this study will be useful for the quantitative analysis of data and determination of optimal image acquisition protocols using this widely used scanner for clinical and research purposes.

Purpose: Myocardial perfusion SPECT using $^{201}Tl$ is an important method for viability of left ventricle and quantitative evaluation of cardiac function and now various reconstruction methods are used to improve the image quality. But in case of small sized heart, you should always be careful because of the Partial Volume Effect which may cause errors of quantitative indices at the reconstruction step. So, In this study, we compared those quantitative indices of left ventricle according to the reconstruction method of myocardial perfusion SPECT with the Echocardiography and verified the degree of the differences between them. Materials and Methods: Based on ESV 30 mL of Echocardiography, we divided 278 patients (male;98, female;188, Mean age;$65.5{\pm}11.1$) who visited the Asan medical center from February to September, 2012 into two categories; below the criteria to small sized heart, otherwise, normal or large sized heart. Filtered and output each case, we applied the method of FBP and OSEM to each of them, and calculated EDV, ESV and LVEF, and we conducted statistical processing through Repeated Measures ANOVA with indices that measured in Echocardiography. Results: In case of men and women, there were no significant difference in EDV between FBP and OSEM (p=0.053, p=0.098), but in case of Echocardiography, there were meaningful differences (p<0.001). The change of ESV especially women in small sized heard, significant differences has occurred among FBP, OSEM and Echocardiography. Also, in LVEF, there were no difference in men and women who have normal sized heart among FBP, OSEM and Echocardiography (p=0.375, p=0.969), but the women with small sized heart have showed significant differences (p<0.001). Conclusion: The change in quantitative indices of left ventricle between Nuclear cardiology image reconstruction, no difference has occurred in the patients with normal sized heart but based on ESV, under 30 mL of small sized heart, especially in female, there were significant differences in FBP, OSEM and Echocardiography. We found out that overestimated LVEF caused by PVE can be reduced in average by applying OSEM to all kinds of gamma camera, which are used in analyzing the differences.

The objective of this research was to determine the effect of light quality on formation of fruit body primordia (FBPs) of Ganoderma lucidum. To achieve this 5 isolates of the fungus that develops fruit body primordia on nutrient agar media were incubated with or without continuous irradiation. The fluorescent lamps used different colors such as black light blue (BLB), pure blue (P-B), pure green (P-G), pure yellow (P-Y) and pure red (P-R). Effect of periodic light and dark exposures on FBP formation of isolate Gl-009 was investigated. The FBP formation in G. lucidum isolates was also tested under monochromatic light produced by the combination of interference filters and colored glass filters. Three isolates produced FBPs under all kinds of fluorescent lamps, whereas two induced FBPs only under visible light except for BLB fluorescent lamp. However, these isolate did not form FBPs in the dark. The FBP was formed at light intensity from 0.05 to $10.0\;{\mu}mol\;m^{-2}s^{-1}$, and begun to reduce its number as light intensity increase over $0.5\;{\mu}mol\;m^{-2}s^{-1}$. When the isolate was incubated under periodic light and dark exposures, the number and weight of FBP increased as compared with those under continuous light. Initiation of FBP requires at least 4 days of light illumination. Although isolate Gl-003 produced FBPs in a wide range of 400 to 800 nm, other four isolates had two effective regions 400 to 500 nm and 700 to 750 nm in FBP formation.
The study has attempted to evaluate and compare the image evaluation and exposure dose by respectively applying filter back projection (FBP), the existing test method, and adaptive statistical iterative reconstruction (ASIR) with different values of tube voltage during the low dose computed tomography (LDCT). With the image reconstruction method as basis, chest phantom was utilized with the FBP and ASIR set at 10%, 20% respectively, and the change of tube voltage (100 kVp, 120 kVp). For image evaluation, back ground noise, signal-noise ratio (SNR) and contrast-noise ratio (CNR) were measured, and, for dose assessment, CTDIvol and DLP were measured respectively. In terms of image evaluation, there was significant difference in ascending aorta (AA) SNR and inpraspinatus muscle (IM) SNR with the different amount of tube voltage (p < 0.05). In terms of CTDIvol, the measured values with the same tube voltage of 120 kVp were 2.6 mGy with no-ASIR and 2.17 mGy with 20%-ASIR respectively, decreased by 0.43 mGy, and the values with 100 kVp were 1.61 mGy with no-ASIR and 1.34 mGy with 20%-ASIR, decreased by 0.27 mGy. In terms of DLP, the measured values with 120 kVp were $103.21mGy{\cdot}cm$ with no-ASIR and $85.94mGy{\cdot}cm$ with 20%-ASIR, decreased by $17.27mGy{\cdot}cm$ (about 16.7%), and the values with 100 kVp were $63.84mGy{\cdot}cm$ with no-ASIR and $53.25mGy{\cdot}cm$ with 20%-ASIR, a decrease by $10.62mGy{\cdot}cm$ (about 16.7%). At lower tube voltage, the rate of dose significantly decreased, but the negative effects on image evaluation was shown due to the increase of noise.

Purpose: This study automatically discriminates homogeneous and structure edge regions on computed tomography (CT) images, and it evaluates the noise level and edge preservation ratio (EPR) according to the different types of iterative reconstruction (IR). Methods: The dataset consisted of CT scans of 10 patients reconstructed with filtered back projection (FBP), statistical IR (iDose4), and iterative model-based reconstruction (IMR). Using the 10th and 85th percentiles of the structure coherence feature, homogeneous and structure edge regions were localized. The noise level was estimated using the averages of the standard deviations for five regions of interests (ROIs), and the EPR was calculated as the ratio of standard deviations between homogeneous and structural edge regions on subtraction CT between the FBP and IR. Results: The noise levels were 20.86±1.77 Hounsfield unit (HU), 13.50±1.14 HU, and 7.70±0.46 HU for FBP, iDose4, and IMR, respectively, which indicates that iDose4 and IMR could achieve noise reductions of approximately 35.17% and 62.97%, respectively. The EPR had values of 1.14±0.48 and 1.22±0.51 for iDose4 and IMR, respectively. Conclusions: The iDose4 and IMR algorithms can effectively reduce noise levels while maintaining the anatomical structure. This study suggested automated evaluation measurements of noise levels and EPRs, which are important aspects in CT image quality with patients' cases of FBP, iDose4, and IMR. We expect that the inclusion of other important image quality indices with a greater number of patients' cases will enable the establishment of integrated platforms for monitoring both CT image quality and radiation dose.
High levels for noise and a loss of true signal make the quantitative interpretation of nuclear medicine (NM) images difficult. An application of profile optimization using a sigmoidal function in this study was used to acquire the NM images with high quality. And the images were acquired by using three kinds of reconstruction method using each same sinogram: a standard filtered back-projection (FBP), an iterative reconstruction (IR) technique, and the sigmoidal function profile optimization (SFPO). Comparison of image according to reconstruction method was performed to show a superiority of the SFPO for imaging. The images reconstructed by using the SFPO showed an average of 1.49 times and of 1.17 times better in contrast than the results obtained using the standard FBP and the IR technique, respectively. Higher signal to noise ratios were obtained as an average of 12.30 times and of 3.77 times than results obtained using the standard FBP and the IR technique, respectively. This study confirms that reconstruction with SFPO (vs FBP and vs IR) can lead to better lesion detectability and characterization with noise reduction. It can be developed for future reconstruction technique for the NM imaging.
The growth inhibition of Campylobacter jejuni ATCC 33291 in the presence of $1\%$ acetic acid at 4, 25, and $42^{\circ}C$, followed by $25^{\circ}C$ and $4^{\circ}C$, at pH 5.5 and pH 6.5, and by the addition of $1\%$ acetic acid aat 4, 25, and $42^{\circ}C$ were determined to be 22, 8.5, and 1.4 min, respectively, in an FBP-SBB medium. The D values of C. jejuni were increased by the addition of chicken and did not follow the linear relationship observed in the FBP-SBB media without chicken. When using distilled water instead of FBP-SBB in the model system, the death rate of C. jejuni was dramatically accelerated. The injured or low cell numbers that were impossible to enumerate using the plate count method, were detected by a polymerase chain reaction and enrichment culture procedure. These results suggested that acetic acid is reliable and effective as a disinfectant, however, it is necessary to take additional care at refrigeration temperatures due to the potential of injred cells during poultry processing.
The rate and extent of digestion of dietary carbohydrates has a tremendous impact on ruminal fermentation and the productivity of the animals. The objective of the study was to determine the dry matter (DM) and neutral detergent fiber (NDF) degradabilities and rate and extent of feed byproducts (cotton seed cake, wheat bran), legumes [berseem (Egyptian clover), lucern (Medicago sativa), cowpeas (Vigna sinensis)], grasses [maize (Zea mays), millet (Panicum miliaceum), sorghum (Sorghum vulgare)] and wheat straw in ruminally fistulated male buffalo calves. By using nylon bags, 10 grams sample was exposed to the ruminal fermentation for 0, 1, 2, 4, 6, 10, 16, 24, 36, 48 and 96 hours. Dry matter and NDF degradability was measured at 48 hours. Extent of DM and NDF disappearance was determined at each time point. Rates of disappearance of DM and NDF were determined by regressing the natural logarithm of the percentage of original DM and NDF remaining in the bags between 1 and 96 hours. The dry matter digestibility (DMD) of the feed byproducts (FBP) and legume forages when incubated in the rumen of male buffalo calves were greater (p < 0.05) than grasses. Extent of digestion followed similar pattern as DMD. Rate of DMD was higher in FBP than in legumes and was the lowest in the wheat straw. The NDF degradability (NDFD) of FBP, legumes and grasses did not differ, however, wheat straw had the lowest NDFD from all the feeds tested. The lowest NDFD of wheat straw may have been due to the depressing effect of lignin on fiber digestion. The FBP and legumes had higher (p < 0.05) rates and lower extents of NDF digestion than grasses.
In this study, among chest CT examination conditions, the tube voltage was changed to 100 and 80 kVp and the reconstruction algorithm was changed to FBP, ASIR-V, and DLIR to compare and analyze changes in examination dose and image quality. As a result, when applying ASIR-V and DLIR at a tube voltage of 100 kVp, which is lower than the existing tube voltage, the dose is lowered while achieving image quality most similar to that when applying 120 kVp and FBP. especially, DLIR reconstructed images had excellent SNR and CNR at all tube voltages. In addition, the SSIM index was analyzed to be closest to 1, showing the highest similarity to the original image. Therefore, when performing repeated chest CT examinations, the application of DLIR can reduce the examination dose by about 29.7%, which is expected to help solve some of the biggest problems with CT examinations, namely radiation exposure due to the examination.
