홍채 인식은 인간의 눈 영상으로부터 고유한 홍채특징을 추출하고 이를 코드화 하여 비교하는 생체인식 기술로, 이것은 시스템 안에 저장된 다른 홍채들과의 비교기술을 포함한다. 한편, 홍채 영상에서의 속눈썹은 인식률에 영향을 미치는 외부 요소인데, 만일 속눈썹이 홍채영역으로부터 정확하게 제거되지 않는다면 속눈썹을 홍채특징으로 인식하거나 홍채특징을 속눈썹으로 인식하는 오인식의 문제가 존재하게 되며, 결국 이 오인식은 홍채정보의 많은 유실을 가져오게 된다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 이러한 문제점을 해결하기 위하여 주파수 특징 분석에 사용되는 Gabor Filter를 이용한 속눈썹 제거로 홍채정보의 보존율 향상을 가져올 수 있었다. Gabor Filter는 영상의 주파수 분석을 위한 필터 중 하나인데 여기에 각도, 주파수, 가우시안 파라미터 등을 이용한 다양한 홍채영역의 특징들을 추출할 수 있는 새로운 방법으로 다양한 길이와 모양의 속눈썹을 정확하게 제거할 수 있었다. 그 결과 제안한 방법은 GMM 혹은 히스토그램 분석을 이용한 기존 방법보다 홍채영역 데이터 보존율에 있어서 약 4% 정도의 향상이 가능하였다.

본 연구는 펩타이드 함유 화장품이 속눈썹 미용법으로서의 효능을 검증해 보고자 하였다. 연구대상은 20세 여성 21명을 대상으로 실험군(오른쪽 속눈썹)과 대조군(왼쪽 속눈썹)으로 설정하여 4주간 펩타이드 화장품의 사용에 따른 변화 측정을 진행하였다. 분석결과, 속눈썹의 길이와 밀도 변화는 집단과 실험기간 간의 상호작용, 각 실험기간에 따른 주 효과에서 유의한 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다(p<.001). 속눈썹의 밀도와 두께 변화에서는 측정 시기별 집단 간 차이에서 3주차와 4주차에서 유의미한 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다(p>.05, p>.01). 펩타이드를 함유한 화장품은 미용적 시술에 의한 부작용을 고민하는 사람들에게 속눈썹의 길이와 수적인 증가로 안전하고 아름다운 속눈썹을 위한 효과적인 미용방법임을 효과적으로 입증하였다. 이에 향 후 다양한 연령층으로 확대된 연구의 진행을 기대한다.

In this study, the flat-section monofilaments of PBT for artificial eyelashes was developed, and the physical properties of the circular cross-section of artificial eyelashes were compared and observed, and the main performance of the artificial eyelash prototype was observed through processing for artificial eyelashes. In addition, a satisfaction survey of the prototype was conducted through a survey of consumers and artificial eyelash operators. It was found that the bending stiffness value of the monofilaments increased significantly as the thickness increased. As a result of measuring the bending properties of the flat-section PBT monofilaments, the bending stiffness was significantly lower than that of the circular-section PBT specimens of the same thickness. The deformed cross-section PBT monofilaments with flat cross sections developed in this study showed a light weight factor of less than 50% compared to the existing circular cross-section PBT ones. The adhesive strength of the developed PBT artificial specimens was greater than that of the existing circular cross-section yarn. It was also observed that the curl stability over time was excellent. As a result of the consumer survey, it was possible to obtain more than 85% of positive answers in the case of consumer subjects, and it was possible to investigate that the satisfaction of the operator subjects was more than 80% compared to the existing round-section eyelashes.

본 연구는 일상생활 속 개인적 특성에 따른 안경렌즈 흠집과 교체주기를 조사해 보고자 하였다. 본 연구에 자발적으로 참여한 58명을 연구대상자로 하였으며, 안경착용 시 속눈썹의 안경렌즈 접촉 여부, 1일 안경렌즈 닦는 횟수, 안경렌즈를 닦는 종류에 따른 안경렌즈 교체주기를 분석하였다. 통계분석은 X² 검정과 Fisher의 정확도 검정을 하였다. 안경렌즈의 평균 교체주기는 남자보다 여자가 긴 것으로 나타났으며, 속눈썹이 안경렌즈에 접촉되는 경우, 안경수건이 아닌 휴지나 옷 등을 사용하여 안경렌즈를 닦는 경우에 안경렌즈 교체주기가 유의하게 짧게 나타났다. 안경렌즈의 코팅막은 속눈썹이나 일상생활 속의 사소한 부주의등과 같이 융복합적 영향으로 손상이 발생할 수 있다는 것을 확인한 바, 이 결과에 대한 후속연구를 이어가고자 한다.

Epithelial growth factor receptor (EGFR) tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) have been widely used for non-small-cell lung cancer patients. Its untoward cutaneous effects are largely well known and developed in many patients treated with EGFR TKIs. However trichomegaly of eyelash is rarely reported. Although trichomegaly is not a drug-limiting side effect, it could be troublesome of continuing the treatment because of cosmetic issue or eyeball irritation by long eyelashes. Therefore clinicians are needed to pay attention to this uncommon effect. We herein describe erlotinib induced trichomegaly of eyelashes in a woman with adenocarcinoma of the lung.

Phthirus pubis usually infests the pubis, groin, buttocks and perianal region. It can sometimes infest the thighs, abdomen, chest, axillae and beard. Eyelashes and eyebrows may be involved in children. The involvement of the scalp is very rare. We describe a case of P. pubis infestation located exclusively on the scalp in an adult woman. Neither lice/nits nor skin lesions were observed elsewhere, including eyebrows, eyelashes, axillae, pubis, buttocks and perianal region (the patient was hairless in the axillae and pubis). A review of the literature is enclosed.

Cornelia de Lange syndrome (CdLS) is a rare multisystemic disorder that is characterized by mental retardation, prenatal and postnatal growth retardation, limb anomalies, and distinctive facial features, which include arched eyebrows that often meet in the middle (synophrys), long eyelashes, low-set ears, small and widely spaced teeth, and a small and upturned nose. Ophthalmic manifestations include long eyelashes, nasolacrimal duct obstruction, myopia, ptosis, and strabismus. There has been no report of surgical treatment for esotropia and unilateral ptosis in patients with CdLS in Korea. I report a patient with CdLS who underwent surgical treatment for esotropia and unilateral ptosis with a good surgical outcome.

Cyclopia is a congenital ocular abnormality in which two orbits are fused together due to an arrest in the normal process of embryonic tissue development. Reported here is a case of cyclopia in a calf observed from the uterus of cow slaughtered in an abattoir in Korea on March 24, 2004. The calf possessed a spherical-shaped head and only one centrally placed eye. The one eyeball showed complete eyelashes on the defective eyelids. The nasal region and the anterior nares were absent along with a dorsally curved mandible extended beyond the defective maxillae.

Inflammatory eyelid symptoms are common in primary care and there have been several reports on Demodex blepharitis. In the present study, we evaluate the 9 patients with Demodex blepharitis, who showed inflammation of the eyelids, dry eye, and cylindrical dandruff at the base of the eyelashes. The causative species from all patients was Demodex folliculorum of either the adult or nymph stage. Two patients had recurrent chalazion and 3 patients had keratitis. Weekly lid scrubs with 50% tee tree oil were performed for 6 weeks. After treatment, the symptoms of blepharitis and keratitis had improved in all patients. This case report provides clinical reference source for the proper treatment of ocular demodicosis.

Distichiasis is one of the diseases commonly encountered in companion animals, and these abnormal eyelashes cause corneal ulcers, continuous eye irritation, eye pain, glare, epiphora, foreign body sensation and can cause corneal opacity and vision loss in severe cases. In this study, an eyelash epilation needle for animals was developed and applied to a real case, and the results were observed. In a case of corneal ulcer caused by distichiasis of a 2-year-old Shih Tzu, a high-frequency surgical instrument for animals was converted into an electric epilation needle to attempt a procedure to destroy the eyelash hair follicles on the upper eyelid. A epilation needle was developed to have a diameter of 0.1 mm and a length of 4 mm at the end of the handle of DOCTANZ 400, an electrosurgical instrument for animals only. In the procedure, 2~3 mm of an epilation needle was inserted into the hair follicle, and 1 watt of electric power was applied to the hair follicle for about 5 sec. to carry out electrolysis until white bubbles were generated around the meibomian glands thereby destroying the hair follicle. As a result, no eyelashes grew any longer in the treated area indicating that the treatment was successful. It is hoped that the method developed in this study will be applied so that it will be widely used as a treatment method for distichiasis in companion animals that can be frequently seen hereafter.
