This paper proposes a high efficiency step-down flyback converter using a coaxial-cable coupled-inductor which has a higher primary-secondary flux linkage than sandwich winding transformers. The structure of the two-winding coaxial cable transformer is described, and the coupling coefficient of the coaxial cable transformer and that of a sandwich winding transformer are compared. A circuit model of the proposed transformer is also obtained from the frequency-response curves of the secondary short-circuit and of the secondary open-circuit. Finally, the performance of the proposed transformer is validated by the experimental results from a 35W single-output flyback converter prototype. In addition, the proposed two-winding coaxial transformer is extended to a multiple winding coaxial application. For the performance evaluation of the extended version, 35W multi-output hardware prototype of the DC-DC flyback converter was tested.
An inerter is a passive mechanical element whose inertance can be thousands of times its own physical mass. This paper discusses the application of an inerter-based passive control system, termed rotational inertial double-tuned mass damper (RIDTMD), to mitigate human-induced floor vibrations. First, the acceleration frequency response function of the floor with an RIDTMD is first derived. It is then employed to determine the optimal design parameters of the RIDTMD using the extended fixed-points technique. Based on a theoretical analysis, design-oriented empirical functions are proposed for the RIDTMD optimal parameters, whose performance for floor vibration control is evaluated by numerical examples, in which three typical human-induced load types are considered: walking, jumping, and bouncing. The results indicate that the applicability and effectiveness of the RIDTMD for human-induced floor vibration control are robust for various load types, load frequencies, and floor natural frequencies. For the same mass ratio, the RIDTMD is better than the TMD in reducing the floor vibration amplitude and improving the effective frequency suppression bandwidth, and for the same vibration suppression effect, the mass of the RIDTMD is much lighter than that of the TMD.
Two-Dimensional modelling of the Cochlear biomechanics is presented in this paper. The Laplace partial differential equation which represents the fluld mechanics of the Cochlea has been transformed into two-dimensional electrical transmission line. The procedure of this transformation is explained in detail. The comparison between one and two dimensional models is also presented. This electrical modelling of the basilar membrane (BM) is clearly useful for the next approach to the further development of active elements which are essenclal in the producing of the sharp tuning of the BM. This paper shows that two-dimension model is qualitatively better than one-dimensional model both in amplitude and phase responses of the BM displacement. The present model is only for frequency response. However because the model is electrical, the two-dimensional transmission line model can be extended to time response without any difficult.
Since many reciprocating and rotating components are attached to jet loom structure. it is exposed to a more vibration and moise problems than the other textile machinery. Thus the design of the jet loom frame is very important to characterize the dynamic response. In this study, a finite element model of jet loom main frame was developed to investigate the dynamic characteristics of jet loom. Two different finite element models of different main frames were constructed and these models were validated by the experimental results. Dynamic characteristics such natural frequencies and mode shapes were in good agreement between the finite element analysis and experimental results within 10% error range. It is expected that the result from this study can be used as the basic information of jet loom dynamic analysis and be extended for further analysis of forced response case.

In this paper a different formulation for the response of structural systems controlled by Tuned Liquid Column Damper (TLCD) devices is developed, based on the mathematical tool of fractional calculus. Although the increasing use of these devices for structural vibration control, it has been demonstrated that existing model may lead to inaccurate prediction of liquid motion, thus reflecting in a possible imprecise description of the structural response. For this reason the recently proposed fractional formulation introduced to model liquid displacements in TLCD devices, is here extended to deal with TLCD controlled structures under base excitations. As demonstrated through an extensive experimental analysis, the proposed model can accurately capture structural responses both in time and in frequency domain. Further, the proposed fractional formulation is linear, hence making identification of the involved parameters extremely easier.
Dynamic interaction analysis of surface structure on layered half-space is performed in frequency domain under incident wave excitation. This present study adopts a coupling method that combines the finite element(FE) for the flexible structures and boundary element(BE) for the layered half-space. A semi-analytical approach is employed to reduce the integration range of wavenumbers in the BE formula. For the incident wave input, the response is decomposed and formulated after the impedance matrix for the structure system. Numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the accuracy of the method. The examples show the feasibility of an extended application to the complicated dynamic analysis of structures on layered media under incident wave excitation.
The empirical Green's function method is applied to the foreshock and the mainshock of the 2016 Gyeongju earthquake to simulate strong ground motions of the mainshock and scenario earthquake at seismic stations of seven metropolises in South Korea, respectively. To identify the applicability of the method in advance, the mainshock is simulated, assuming the foreshock as the empirical Green's function. As a result of the simulation, the overall shape, the amplitude of PGA, and the duration and response spectra of the simulated seismic waveforms are similar with those of the observed seismic waveforms. Based on this result, a scenario earthquake on the causative fault of Gyeongju earthquake with a moment magnitude 6.5 is simulated, assuming that the mainshock serves as the empirical Green's function. As a result, the amplitude of PGA and the duration of simulated seismic waveforms are significantly increased and extended, and the spectral amplitude of the low frequency band is relatively increased compared with that of the high frequency band. If the empirical Green's function method is applied to several recent well-recorded moderate earthquakes, the simulated seismic waveforms can be used as not only input data for developing ground motion prediction equations, but also input data for creating the design response spectra of major facilities in South Korea.
We propose a transient evaluation scheme using a pressure measurement in a complicate pipeline systems. Conservation of mass and momentum equations in time domain can be transformed into a pressure head and flowrate relationship between upstream and downstream point in frequency domain. The impedance formulations were derived to address measured pressure at downstream to evaluate of flowrate or pressure head at any point of system. Both branched pipeline element and looped pipeline element can be generally addressed in the platform of the basic reservoir pipeline valve system. The convolution of time domain response function with measured pressure head from a downstream point provides flowrate or pressure head response in any point of the designated pipeline system. The proposed method was validated through comparison between traditional method of characteristics and the proposed method in several hypothetical systems.
