  • This study is a descriptive and exploratory one aiming to develop a systematic/diagnostic manual that is necessary for the improvement of the pedestrian safety of a neighborhood and show the practical application and usefulness of the manual through a case study. The diagnostic manual developed on the basis of the previous research review adopted a mixed research method including three investigation tools of map/data analysis using secondary data, field observation by investigators, and resident survey interview. In the case study applying the manual to Changsin-dong, Seoul, the author analyzed the results of the three investigations in integrative ways and showed the usefulness of the manual by systematically deriving the places prone to pedestrian-vehicle accidents and the influencing factors. This study contributes to the practical field in that it provides planners with a systematic tool to diagnose the pedestrian safety in the neighborhood environment while it contributes to the academic field in that it provides the concrete process that empirically compares the differences between different environmental investigative methods and deduce integrative implication from them. In a follow-up study, the author plan to apply the diagnostic manual presented in this study to more cases and improve them to work in various contexts.

  • Purpose: The aim of the present exploratory study was to evaluate extraction socket healing at sites with a history of periodontal and endodontic pathology. Methods: The mandibular 4th premolar teeth in 5 adult beagle dogs served as experimental units. Periodontal and endodontic lesions were induced in 1 premolar site in each animal using wire ligatures and pulpal exposure over 3 months (diseased sites). The contralateral premolar sites served as healthy controls. The mandibular 4th premolar teeth were then extracted with minimal trauma, followed by careful wound debridement. The animals were sacrificed at days 1, 7, 30, 60, and 90 post-extraction for analysis, and the healing patterns at the healthy and diseased extraction sites were compared using radiography, scanning electron microscopy, histology, and histometry. Results: During the first 7 days of healing, a significant presence of inflammatory granulation tissue was noted at the diseased sites (day 1), along with a slightly accelerated rate of fibrin clot resolution on day 7. On day 30, the diseased extraction sites showed a greater percentage of persistent fibrous connective tissue, and an absence of bone marrow formation. In contrast, healthy sites showed initial signs of bone marrow formation on day 30, and subsequently a significantly greater proportion of mature bone marrow formation on both days 60 and 90. Radiographs exhibited sclerotic changes adjoining apical endodontic lesions, with scanning electron microscopy showing collapsed Volkmann canals protruding from these regions in the diseased sites. Furthermore, periodontal ligament fibers exhibited a parallel orientation to the alveolar walls of the diseased sites, in contrast to a perpendicular arrangement in the healthy sites. Conclusions: Within the limitations of this study, it appears that a history of periodontal and endodontic pathology may critically affect bone formation and maturation, leading to delayed and compromised extraction socket healing.

  • A shifting of marketing paradigms from transaction to relationship has shown in many studies. Although there are many researches about relationship marketing, few of them focuses on relationship marketing combined with retail mix. This study define and measure customer relationship, and find the antecedents and consequences of the customer relationship. For the research, data were collected from 540 persons who are currently customers of five branches of E-mart and Homeplus in Seoul, Korea. Data analysis was performed under the AMOS 6.0. The results are summarized as following; Firstly, the relationship among elements of retail marketing mix and the relationship quality appears significant except communication program. This finding means that communication effect decreases at some point when communication program is excessive. Secondly, the relationship of customer relationship and three factors (frequent shopping intention, up-buying intention and recommend intention) are significant. Thus, this result supports the reasoning why discount stores make an effort to improve customer relationship. Thirdly, the relationship between share of wallet and two factors (frequent shopping intention and recommend intention) appears insignificant. Fourthly, the relationship between share of wallet and up-buying intention is significant. This result implies that up-buying intention is an important factor for discount stores, because up-buying intention is directly linked to financial performance of discount stores. Finally, the direct path between customer relationship and share of wallet is significant relation. For this reason, customer relationship should be managed consistently by discount stores.

  • Most universities have been concerned about Liberal Education; whether is it on universal truth, or on training job-specialists? In consequence, the curricula have been reformed and promoted diversely. In this aspect, has been developed as convergence education. I selected two easy and short texts and tried to make the students practice and memorize the dialogues as many as possible. At the end of the class, the students presented given assignments, with theatrical performance. This study carried out the research of students' presentation and theatrical performances on the basis of group study, together with a survey of the results of questionnaires and lecture evaluation. Therefore it was a exploratory study to check out significance of variables through the correlation analysis. The students' questionnaires showed the improvement of their English ability, together with their knowledge about literature and drama, cultivating humanities through the theatrical performance. It may be said that has achieved multi-functional effects of English class converged literature, theatre and humanities even for one semester.

  • The purpose of the present study was to validate the Need for Closure Scale-Short Form (NFCS-SF), which measures the need for cognitive closure. Participants completed questionnaires regarding need for cognitive closure, intolerance of uncertainty, depression, and anxiety. Of the 536 data collected between May and July 2017, data from a total of 495 participants were analyzed using SPSS 20.0 and M-Plus. The results of the study are as follows. First, a 15-item selection comprised three items from each facet scale via exploratory factor analysis. Second, the NFCS-SF demonstrated good internal consistency (Study 1, Cronbach's α=.85; Study 2, Cronbach's α=.84). Third, the results of the confirmatory factor analyses supported a 5-factor model (χ2(80)=178.34, p<.001; CFI=.87, TLI=.83, RMSEA=.07, SRMR=.08). Fourth, the NFCS-SF showed significant correlation with the measures of intolerance of uncertainty (r=.58, p<.01), depression (r=.16, p<.05), and anxiety (state anxiety, r=.31, p<.01; trait anxiety, r=.29, as well as the NFCS (r=.86, p<.01). Based on these findings, significance and limitations of the results as well as suggestions for further study are discussed.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the variables of metropolitan and provincial offices of education that affect the academic achievement of unit schools, and to predict how academic achievements dynamically change with the support of offices of education. The results of academic achievement of 606 general high schools in 16 metropolitan and provincial offices of education(rates of attaining more than normal education in Korean, English, and mathematics subjects) were analyzed using a multi-level model and system dynamics. As a result of the analysis, it was confirmed that the provincial and provincial offices of education's efforts to increase the efficiency of local education finance, the efforts to reduce teacher administration, and the facilitation of faculty training were the variables of the provincial and provincial offices of education. In addition, through policy experiments, efforts to revitalize teacher training were the most influential factors in academic achievement of unit schools, followed by efforts to streamline local education finances and to reduce the administrative work of teachers. In order to improve the academic achievement of unit schools, the functions of the metropolitan and provincial offices of education should be strengthened based on the education accountability, and policies need to be established in the mid- to long-term perspective.

  • The purpose of this study is to explore the suitable creative class in korea as the core capital of creative urban growth under creative economy era. We are test to find it for two types of creative class. One is Richard Florida(2002)'s creative class, the other is Mcgranahan & Wojan(2007)'s recasting creative class. Data on 2010 for this paper are generated from Statistics Korea. As a result, we find that the economic geography of creative class is highly concentrated. Furthermore, the geography of creative class is strongly associated with innovation index and high-technology industry location. And Mcgranahan & Wojan(2007)'s creative class is more strong relationship between all dependent variables than Florida's. We also find that it has better power of explanation than Florida's with all of them in regression analysis. According to the results, this study suggests some solutions. First, this study can be provided to government and local policy makers as basis data and practical policy guide to attract creative class. Second, this paper presents standard about a diversity of definitions for creative class in Korea. Third, this research also facilitates follow-up studies about regional economic growth and creative climates.

  • There have been several international lesson studies such as TIMSS Video Study and Learner's Perspective Study. According to the TIMSS Video Study report, within differences found in the lessons in each country is much less than the between differences found in the lessons across countries. This means that each country has its own way of teaching, so called 'national script'. On the contrary, LPS researchers are skeptical about the existence of 'national script' since significant differences are identified within the lessons conducted by the same teacher. The purpose of this study is to analyze the LPS Korean data in terms of class organization and teacher's approach and activities. The categories of class organization are classwork, small group seatwork, and individual seatwork, and the those of teacher's approach and activities are exploratory, directive, summarization, exercises and practice, and assigning homework. Ten lessons were videotaped from two Korean schools respectively, thus altogether twenty lessons were recorded and analyzed. Each lesson shows unique class approach and teacher's approach and activities, however the average of each category in class organization and teacher's approach and activities for the two schools are very similar. This result supports the TIMSS Video Study in the regard that there is a commonality among the lessons within the country, but also confirms the LPS result that it is difficult to assume 'national script'. This study is a preliminary investigation into the LPS Korean data, and the further in-depth interpretation of LPS lessons will be followed.
