The quantity of construction and demolition waste has been greatly increasing recently. It causes many problems to the environment. For this reason, demolition waste management becomes inevitable in order to overcome the environmental issues. The present study aims to evaluate the effects of using recycled coarse aggregate, which is generated from construction and demolition waste, on the properties of recycled aggregate concrete. An experimental investigation on the strength characteristics of concrete made with recycled coarse aggregate is presented and discussed in this paper. In this study, Portland Pozzolana Cement (fly ash based) is used instead of ordinary Portland cement. The results of this investigation show the possibility of the use of recycled coarse aggregates in the production of fresh concrete. Use of demolition waste as coarse aggregate will lead to a cleaner environment with a significant reduction of the consumption of natural resources. A comparative study on the strength characteristics of recycled aggregate concrete made with Ordinary Portland Cement and Portland Pozzolana Cement is presented and discussed in this paper.

Since cement is one of materials of concrete and have an important effect upon physical properties of concrete, the quality characteristics of ordinary portland cement in domestic market are evaluated in this study. For this purpose, eight kinds of cement are selected and tested on the specific gravity, normal consistency, setting time, fincness, and compressive strength of cement ranged from 300kg/$\textrm{m}^3$ to 600kg/$\textrm{m}^3$ are tested for each kind of cement. As a result, ordinary portland cement in domestic market are satisfied with physical performance prescribed by KS L 5201(Portland Cement) and when unit weight of cement is 300~600kg/$\textrm{m}^3$, the maximum compressive strength of concrete cylinder is showed to be about 440-540kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$.

In order to increase the integrity of the wellbore which is used to prevent the leakage of supercritical $CO_2$, it is necessary to develop a concrete that is strongly resistant to carbonation. In an environment where the concentration of $CO_2$ is exceptionally high, $Ca^{2+}$ ion concentration in pore solution of Portland cement concrete will drop significantly due to the rapid consumption of calcium hydroxide, which decreases the stability of the calcium silicate hydrate. In this research, calcium phosphates were used to modify Portland cement system in order to produce hydroxyapatite, a hydration product that is strongly resistant to carbonation under such an environment. According to the experimental results, calcium phosphates reacted with Portland cement to form hydroxyapatite. The formation of hydroxyapatite was verified using X-ray diffraction analyses with selective extraction techniques. When using dicalcium phosphate dihydrate and tricalcium phosphate, the 28-day compressive strength was lower than that of plain cement paste. However, the specimen with monocalcium phosphate monohydrate showed equivalent strength to that of plain cement paste.
This paper presents a detailed experimental study on the sulfate resistance of specimens made with portland cement exposed to sulfate attack. The mortar specimens were immersed in a 5% sodium sulfate solution for 360 days and regularly monitored for visual damage, compressive strength loss and expansion. In addition, at the end of 360 days, the products of sulfate attack and the mechanism of attack were investigated through X-ray diffraction, TG&DSC and scanning electron microscopy. The test results indicated that the sulfate deterioration data was ordinary portland cement > sulfate resistance portland cement > low heat portland cement. The microstructural studies indicated that the main reaction product of deterioration of the mortar specimens was the formation of ettringite, gypsum and thaumasite due to sulfate attack. For portland cement matrices, a low heat cement matrix containing the lowest C3A and silicate ratio (C/S) was beneficient against the sulfate attack.
Impact experiments have been carried out on concrete slabs. The first group was traditionally manufactured, densely reinforced concrete targets, and the next were ordinary Portland and calcium aluminate cement based HPSFRC (High performance steel fiber reinforced concrete) and SIFCON (Slurry infiltrated concrete) targets. All specimens were hit by anti-armor tungsten projectiles at a muzzle velocity of over 4 Mach causing destructive perforation. In Part I of this article, production and experimental procedures are described. The first group of specimens were ordinary CEM I 42.5 R cement based targets including only dense reinforcement. In the second and third groups, specimens were produced using CEM I 42.5 R cement and Calcium Aluminate Cement (CAC40) with ordinary reinforcement and steel fibers 2 percent in volume. In the fourth group, SIFCON specimens including 12 percent of steel fibers without reinforcement were tested. A high-speed camera was used to capture impact and residual velocities of the projectile. Sample tests were performed to obtain mechanical properties of the materials. In the companion Part II of this study, numerical investigations and simulations performed will be presented. Few studies exist that examine high-velocity impact effects on CAC40 based HPSFRC targets, so this investigation gives an insight for comparison of their behavior with Portland cement based and SIFCON specimens.

The G-class cement is usually used for geothermal well grouting to protect a steel casing which is equipped in a geothermal well to transfer geothermal water from deep subsurface to ground surface. In geothermal grouting process, obtaining appropriate fluidity is extremely important in order to fill cement grout flawlessly. In this paper, a series of the V-funnel and Slump Flow test was performed on both of the Portland cement and the G-class cement in order to compare fluidity and filling ability of those kind of cements. In the result of V-funnel test, the fluidity of G-class cement was evaluated much better than the Portland cement at the water/cement ratio of 0.8. In the case of Slump Flow test, the fluidity of G- class cement was estimated slightly better than the Portland cement at both the water/cement ratio of 0.55 and 0.8. Even though the initial fluidity and filling ability of G-class cement were relatively higher than the Portland cement, the results could be considerably changed with time. The results show that the fluidity and filling ability for geothermal well cementation can be properly controlled with water content and additives for adverse geothermal well environment.

This study investigated the chloride binding isotherms of various cement types, especially the contributions of C-S-H and AFm hydrates to the chloride binding isotherms were determined. Ordinary Portland cement (OPC), Modified cement (MC), Rapid-hardening Portland cement (RHC) and Low-heat Portland cement (LHC) were used. The total chloride contents and free chloride contents were analyzed by ASTM. The contents of C-S-H, AFm hydrates and Friedel's salt were determined by X-ray diffraction Rietveld (XRD Rietveld) analysis. The results showed that OPC had the highest chloride binding capacity, and, LHC had the lowest binding capacity of chloride ions. MC and RHC had very similar capacities to bind chloride ions. Experimental equations which distinguish the chemically bound chloride and physically bound chloride were formulated to determine amounts of the bound chloride basing on chloride binding capacity of hydrates.

Mercury intrusion and nitrogen sorption porosimetry were employed to investigate the pore structure of calcium sulfoaluminate ($C{\bar{S}}A$) and portland cement pastes with cement-to-water ratio (w/c) of 0.40, 0.50, and 0.60. A unimodal distribution of pore size was drawn for $C{\bar{S}}A$ cement pastes, whereas a bimodal distribution was established for the portland cement pastes through analysis of mercury intrusion porosimetry. For the experimental results generated by nitrogen sorption porosimetry, the $C{\bar{S}}A$ cement pastes have a smaller and coarser pore volume than cement paste samples under the same w/c condition. The relative dynamic modulus and percentage weight loss were used for investigation of the concrete durability in freeze-thaw condition. When coarse aggregate with good freeze-thaw durability was mixed, air entrained portland cement concrete has the same durability in terms of relative dynamic modulus as $C{\bar{S}}A$ cement concrete in a freeze-thaw environment. The $C{\bar{S}}A$ cement concrete with poor performance of durability in a freeze-thaw environment demonstrates the improved durability by 300 % over portland cement concrete. The $C{\bar{S}}A$ concrete with good performance aggregate also exhibits less surface scaling in a freeze-thaw environment, losing 11 % less mass after 297 cycles.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of a stabilization treatment for As contaminated soil. A combination of hydrated lime, Portland cement, $FeCl_3{\cdot}6H_2O$, and NaOH were used as stabilizing agents. The effectiveness of stabilization treatment was evaluated by the Korean Standard Test (KST) method (1N HCl extraction). Sequential extractions were performed to investigate the As distribution after treatment. Following the application of the treatment, curing periods of up to 7 and 28days were investigated. The experimental results showed that a combination of hydrated lime/Portland cement was more effective than treatments of hydrated lime or Portland cement at immobilizing As in the contaminated soil. The treatment of 25wt% hydrated lime and 5wt% Portland cement was effective in reducing As leachability less than the Korean warning standard of 20 mg/kg. However, the treatments of hydrated lime and Portland cement failed to meet the Korean warning standard even when up to 30 wt% was used. The treatment utilizing hydrated lime and $FeCl_3{\cdot}6H_2O$ was not effective in properly reducing As leachability. The addition of $FeCl_3{\cdot}6H_2O$ was negative in terms of pH condition. Moreover, the treatment with hydrated lime/NaOH was effective in reducing As leachability but not as much as hydrated lime/Portland cement. The sequential extraction results indicated that the residual phase was greatly increased upon the treatment of hydrated lime/Portland cement. It was concluded that the hydrated lime/Portland cement treatment was the best among the other combinations studied at achieving trace As concentrations.

High flowing concrete has not spread whole in the normal concrete structure, because it requires special quality control technique. Recently owing to the lack of natural resources and reinforcement of environmental standard, the construction cost of cement is rapidly increased. Also ready mixed concrete industry has gone through various economical difficulty as the manufacture cost of concrete is increased. So, the purpose of this study is to evaluate the qualities of middle fluidity concrete using the fly-ash and portland blast-furnace slag cement in order to decrease the amount of cement and resolve the problem of the quality control of high flowing concrete and the manufacture cost. The results of this study show that it reduces the amount of addition of superplasticizer and develope properties of concrete to the use the fly-ash and portland blast-furnace slag cement.
