  • Techniques which are able to predict and control dynamic characteristics, not affecting the vibrational characteristics on the modification of structural design, are being studied. As one of these techniques, experimental modal analysis is widely applied by many researchers. In this study, modal analysis is performed using transfer matrix method by a macro computer. The developed program would estimate the structural modal parameters precisely, and the validity of this program is certified by comparing with the experimental results of .GAMMA A. structure. Estimated modal parameters(natural frequency, vibrational mode, equivalent mass, etc.) are in accord with the experimental results. Also, the optimal location of the additive mass is determined by the evaluation of the vibrational mode and the equivalent mass. The relation between the additive mass and the equivalent mass is specified, and we come to know that the ratio of equivalent mass to additive mass alter linearly within the range of 20%.

RLSM 모델링에 의한 엔드밀링 시스템의 모드 분석 (Mode analysis of end-milling process by RLSM)

  • In this study, an analytical realization of end-milling system was introduced using recursive parametric modeling analysis. Also, the numerical mode analysis of end-milling system with different conditions was performed systematically. In this regard, a recursive least square(RLS) modeling algorithm and the natural mode for real part and imaginary one was discussed. This recursive approach (RLSM) can be adopted for the on-line system identification and monitoring of an end-milling for this purpose. After experimental practice of the end-milling, the end-milling force was obtained and it was used for the calculation of FRF(Frequency response function) and mode analysis. Also the FRF was analysed for the prediction of a end-milling system using recursive algorithm.

  • In this study, discrete-time domain analysis is proposed to investigate the input current of a buck AC/DC light-emitting diode (LED) driver. The buck power factor correction converter can operate in both discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) and continuous conduction mode (CCM). Two discontinuous and two continuous conduction operating modes are possible depending on which event terminates the conduction of the main switch in a switching cycle. All four operating modes are considered in the discrete-time domain analysis. The peak current-mode control with slope compensation is used to design a low-cost AC/DC LED driver. A slope compensation design of the buck AC/DC LED driver is described on the basis of a discrete-time domain analysis. Experimental results are presented to confirm the usefulness of the proposed analysis.

An experimental study on the hydro-elastic analysis of a circular cylindrical shell

  • Ocean structures and vehicles are exposed to severe ocean environment conditions such as waves, winds and currents. When such ocean structures and vehicles are designed, an accurate structure analysis is required to keep the system safely. Hydro-elastic analysis is one of key issues to design such structures and vehicles. In many previous investigations, numerical analyses for hydro-elastic problem have been used. In this study, an experimental analysis is carried out and the circular cylindrical shell is considered. Dynamical characteristics for a circular cylindrical shell are identified by experimental vibration analysis in air and water. The natural frequencies and mode shapes are compared in air and water to obtain hydro-elastic effects. Some interesting results are found in the variation of natural frequencies and damping ratios of the circular cylindrical shell for different water contact depths.

  • This paper addresses the vibration mode shape measurement technique utilizing a Continuous Scanning Laser Doppler Vibrometer (CSLDV). The continuous scanning capability is added to the conventional discrete Laser Doppler Vibrometer by reflecting the laser beams on the surface of the object using two oscillating mirrors. The bow scanning resulted from the proposed scanning method is eliminated by feedback control. The velocity output signal from the CSLDV is modulated to give the spatial velocity distribution in terms of coefficients which are obtained from the Fast Fourier Transformation of the time dependent velocity signal. Using the Chebyshev series form, the analysis of the vibration mode shape techniques for straight Bine scanning and 2 dimensional scanning are presented and discussed. 패치로딩을 받는 알루미늄 합금 플레이트 거더의 강도 예측에 대한 기초 연구 (Basic Research for Resistance Prediction of Aluminium Alloy Plate Girders Subjected to Patch Loading)

  • 본 연구에서는 실험 모형을 이용한 탄소성 대변형 시리즈 해석을 수행하여 플레이트 거더의 파손모드와 최종하중을 예측하였다. 수치해석 모형의 붕괴모드는 재하 시 플랜지에서 소성 힌지가 형성되었으며 실험모형의 붕괴모드와 일치하였다. 또한, 웹에서 항복선이 형성되어 크리플링 붕괴모드가 발생하는 것을 관찰할 수 있었으며 각각의 실험모형과 수치모형 최종하중의 평균값 1.07, 표준편차 0.04, 변동계수 0.04로 선형성을 유지하였으며 전체 최종하중 결과도 대략 8 % 오차를 나타내었다. 이는 수치모형 결과가 실험 및 적용 기준에 매우 만족하고 양호한 결과를 도출하였다고 생각한다. 따라서 알루미늄합금 플레이트 거더의 최종하중 예측 시 실험 및 적용 기준과 함께 병행하여 적용을 한다면 이에 대한 합리적 안전수준을 유지한다면 더 효율적이고 경제적 알루미늄 합금 플레이트 거더의 파손모드 및 최종하중에 대해 예측할 수 있을 거라고 생각한다.

외팔형 복합재료 및 혼합적층 사각판의 자유진동해석 (Free Vibration Analysis of Cantilevered Composite and Hybrid Composite Rectangular Plates)

  • This work presents the experimental and FEM results for the free vibration of cantilevered, symmetrically and antisymmetrically laminated composite rectangular plates. The natural frequencies, mode shapes and contour plots of a number of CFRP, GFRP, DFRP-Aluminum, GFRP-Aluminum and DFRP-GFRP hybrid composite plates are experimentally obtained. Determination of Young's modulus and test procedures are described. The natural frequencies are determined for a wide range of parameters : e.g. , composite material constants, fiber angles and stacking sequences. Natural frequency and nondimensional frequency parameter results are compared with the finite element analysis and existing literatures. Agreement between experimental and calculated frequencies is excellent. The effects of varing the parameters upon the free vibration frequencies and mode shapes are discussed.

Application of Hilbert-Huang transform for evaluation of vibration characteristics of plastic pipes using piezoelectric sensors

  • This paper discusses the application of piezoelectric sensors used for evaluation of damping ratio of PVC plastics. The development of the mathematical formulation based on the Empirical Mode Decomposition for calculating the damping coefficient and natural frequency of the system is presented. A systematic experimental and analytical investigation was also carried out to demonstrate the integrity of several methods commonly used to evaluate the damping of materials based on a single degree freedom formulation. The influence of the sensors' location was also investigated. Besides the commonly used methods, a newly emerging time-frequency method, namely the Empirical Mode decomposition, is also employed. Mathematical formulations based on the Hilbert-Huang formulation, and a frequency spacing technique were also developed for establishing the natural frequency and damping ratio based on the output voltage of a single piezoelectric sensor. An experimental investigation was also conducted and the results were compared and verified with Finite Element Analysis (FEA), revealing good agreement.

Enhanced Inter Mode Decision Based on Contextual Prediction for P-Slices in H.264/AVC Video Coding

  • We propose a fast macroblock mode prediction and decision algorithm based on contextual information for Pslices in the H.264/AVC video standard, in which the mode prediction part is composed of intra and inter modes. There are nine $4{\times}4$ and four $16{\times}16$ modes in the intra mode prediction, and seven block types exist for the best coding gain based on rate-distortion optimization. This scheme gives rise to exhaustive computations (search) in the coding procedure. To overcome this problem, a fast inter mode prediction scheme is applied that uses contextual mode information for P-slices. We verify the performance of the proposed scheme through a comparative analysis of experimental results. The suggested mode search procedure increased more than 57% in speed compared to a full mode search and more than 20% compared to the other methods.
