  • This paper presents a computational method for deformation modes of a flexible body in multibody system from the experimental modal analysis and an efficient method for flexible multibody dynamic analysis by use of the modes. It is difficult to directly use experimental modal parameters in flexible multibody dynamic analysis. The major reasons are that there are many inconsistencies between experimental and analytical modal data and experimental noises are inherent in the experimental data. So two methods, such as, a method for ortho-normalization of experimental modes and the other one for mode expansion, are suggested to gain deformation modes of a flexible body from the experimental modal parameters. Using the virtual work principle, the equation of motion of a flexible body is derived. The effectiveness of the proposed method will be verified in the numerical example of cab vibration of a truck by comparing analysis and test results.

  • This paper deals with friction-induced vibration of disc brake system under constant friction coefficient. A linear, lumped and distributed parameter model to represent the floating caliper disc brake system is proposed. The complex eigenvalues are used to investigate the dynamic stability and in order to verify simulations which are based on the theoretical model, the experimental modal test and the dynamometer test are performed. The comparison of experimental and theoretical results shows a good agreement and the analysis indicates that mode coupling due to friction force is responsible for disc brake squeal. And squeal type instability is investigated by using the parametric analysis. This indicates parameters which have influence on the propensity of brake squeal. This helped to validate the analysis model and establish confidence in the analysis results. Also they may be useful during system development or diagnostic analysis.

  • Recently, identification of modal parameters using the response only data has attracted considerable attention particularly where the classic modal testing methods is difficult to conduct. One drawback of the response only data, also known as Operational Modal Analysis (OMA), is that only the unscaled mode shapes can be obtained which restricts the applications of OMA. The Mass change method is a usual way to scale the operational mode shapes. In this article a new method is proposed to optimize the additive mass for scaling of the unscaled mode shapes from OMA for which a priori knowledge of the Finite Element model of structure is required. It is shown that the total error of the scaled mode shapes is minimized using the proposed method. The method is validated using a numerical case study of a beam. Moreover, the experimental results of a clamped-clamped beam demonstrate the applicability of the method.

  • Mode shapes and natural frequencies of the bell type shell are analyzed numerically by the finite element method. The impulse hammer method and the Fast Fourier Transform analyzer are used for the experimental test. All types of mode shapes are expressed by the computer graphics. Numerical solutions are good agreement with the experimental results. The sustaining sound of the typical bell-type shell depend upon the first flexural mode (0-2 mode) and the second flexural mode (0-3 mode), and their mode shapes are independent upon thickness Dangjwas, holes, and added mass effects. Asymmetric effects by Dangjwas, holes and added mass give rise to beat frequencies, and the added mass is found to be most effective.

  • As analysis of the forced dynamic response and vibrational mode for the cantilevered beam is described. Experimental results are compared with the natural frequencies and vibrational modes for the cantilevered beam using the theory of Bernoulli-Euler and finite element method. We have found 1st and 2nd resonance frequency of the cantilevered beam by means of the various external frequencies, $1{\sim}70Hz$, using magnetic transducer. And we have studied the vibrational displacement at obtained resonance frequency of the cantilevered beam. The experimental results for the nodes of cantilevered beam were 0 in 1st mode and 0,0.786 in 2nd mode. close agreement between the theoretically predicted results and experimental result was obtained for the vibrational mode.

  • The cylindrical shells are used as primary components of complex structures such as airplane fuselages and nuclear pressure vessels. Recently the free vibration analysis of these structures are investigated by many researchers. The engineering informations on experimental validation of the free vibration behavior on the simply supported cylindrical shells are very few. The experimental methods for realizing the physical boundary condition of simply supported edges are examined. Natural frequencies and mode shapes of the isotropic and plain weave composite simply supported shells are obtained by modal tests. A theoretical and finite element analysis are also performed in order to validate the experimental results. The experimental results indicate that the simply supported boundary conditions with bolts along the circumferential direction of shell in both ends are well achieved. Those are shown to agree with the analytical results and with the finite element analysis results. These methods can be used to realize other experimental simple support boundary conditions.

  • In this study, numerical analysis was carried out by using the finite element method to construct the first mode shape of damaged stiffened plates, and the damage locations were detected with two-dimensional discrete wavelet analysis. In the experimental analysis, four different damaged stiffened structures were observed. Firstly, each damaged structure was hit with a shaker, and then accelerometers were used to measure the vibration responses. Secondly, the first mode shape of each structure was obtained by using the wavelet packet, and the location of cracks were also determined by two-dimensional discrete wavelet analysis. The results of the numerical analysis and experimental investigation reveal that the proposed method is applicable to detect single crack or multi-cracks of a stiffened structure. The experimental results also show that fewer measurement points are required with the proposed technique in comparison to those presented in previous studies.

  • Ultra Lift Luo Converter (ULC) gained considerable research interest in recent years. The stability analysis of voltage mode and peak current mode controlled ULC in continuous conduction mode is analyzed in this paper. The Eigen value theory is used for the stability analysis of voltage mode controlled ULC. Then to characterize the dynamics of inner current loop, the expressions of closed loop transfer function and loop gain are determined. An algorithm has been developed to analyze the stability of the peak current mode controlled ULC. The theoretical results are correlated with the simulation results obtained using PSIM 9.1(SMARTCTRL 1.0) software. Finally it is proposed to fabricate a prototype and validate the performance by suitable experimental setup.
