  • This study was conducted to investigate the current status of online classes and evaluations during the COVID-19 pandemic and the satisfaction of students attending the College of Korean Medicine. A survey was conducted with students enrolled in Dongguk University's College of Korean Medicine. The questionnaire was divided into four areas asking about online lectures, laboratory practice, clinical practice, and evaluation experience. The items were composed of multiple-choice, a 5-point scale, and subjective type. After distributing the Google form address through SNS and LMS, only those who agreed to the questionnaire were responded anonymously. 149 out of 457 enrolled students responded. 98.7% of students experienced online lectures, and more frequently experienced real-time online lectures (98.6%) than recorded lectures (43.5%). Overall satisfaction with online lectures was 3.99 on average. 80.5% of the students experienced the online experiment and practice class, and the overall satisfaction with it was 3.29 on average. 1.3% of students experienced online clinical practice. 86.6% of students experienced online evaluation, and when asked about the fairness of the test, the average score was 3.99. Satisfaction with online lectures and evaluations is generally high, so it is expected to be used as an effective learning tool in the future. However, it seems that facility improvement and technical training of instructors are necessary. In experimental and practical education, the satisfaction level is lower than that of online lectures, so it seems necessary to develop a new online program and to prepare a safe offline education system.

This study is focused on analyzing the perspective of elementary teachers - who are going to be in charge of AI education - on the implementation of AI education in elementary schools and the teachers are divided into two groups of 'software-experienced' and 'software-inexperienced' in relation to software training background. The results showed that 100% of the 'software-experienced' teachers agreed on implementing AI education and 80% of 'software-inexperienced' teachers also showed positive perspective on it. Among the reasons that 20% of 'software-inexperienced' teachers had negative perspective on AI education, it was highly rated that existing home economics subject covers fulfilling amount of software education. Both 'software-experienced' and 'software-inexperienced' teachers chose grade 5 and 6 as the most appropriate age for software education and considered one class per a week as the most appropriate amount of AI class. In terms of the subject format, 75% of the 'software-experienced' teachers chose the idea that software education has to be an independent school subject which will include AI education. Also, 54% of the 'software-inexperienced' teachers chose the ideas either AI education should be an independent subject or software education should be an independent subject which will include AI education. The preference of the content of AI education appeared in order of basic AI programing, principles of AI and AI Ethics.

  • This study examined the science learning environments experienced by Korean and U.S. preservice elementary science teachers during their 3-week clinical experience. Observational experiences of 97 Korean and 112 U.S preservice teachers were surveyed with an instrument that we developed for the study. Follow-up interviews provided a clearer picture of what preservice teachers observed and experienced in science classrooms during their clinical experiences. Korean preservice teachers experienced a variety of science teaching environments, whereas the U.S. preservice teachers reported limited opportunities to observe science teaching and learning in terms of 6 identified facets that we posed. Along with our interpretation of the contrast in findings, some of the challenges are discussed in providing preservice teachers with opportunities to observe, experience, and teach in effective science learning environments during the clinical experience.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the necessity of safety awareness and education regarding the use of laboratories, and to foster safety awareness during intramural and extracurricular activities in high schools. The study conducted a questionnaire to 290 eleventh grade students of three high schools located in Seoul. The collected data were statistically analyzed. The result illustrates that 64.8% of students have experienced safety education during a regular class, 6.6% have experienced accidents, and 68.0% have experienced safety education during field activities. The result concludes that there is a lack of prior safety education as well as overall low awareness on the necessity of safety education. In particular, students who have experienced safety education recognizes the necessity of emergency education regarding laboratory accident more than those who did not receive such education. Thus, a systematic management of laboratory safety education and multilateral management measures for students' safety are required. There is a relatively high correlation between safety intention of R&D and Education factors and Community and Laboratory Safety Education. As much as there is a high safety demand regarding the laboratory instruments and experiment, it shows high intention of safety lab operation as well as count measurement of lab accident. This study recommends developing a laboratory safety education program and management methods appropriate for high school students.
