  • Elasticity solutions to the boundary-value problems of dynamic response under transverse asymmetric load of cross-ply shallow cylindrical panels are presented. The shell panel is simply supported along all four sides and has finite length. The highly coupled partial differential equations are reduced to ordinary differential equations with constant coefficients by means of trigonometric function expansion in the circumferential and axial directions. The resulting ordinary differential equations are solved by Galerkin finite element method. Numerical examples are presented for two (0/90 deg.) and three (0/90/0 deg.) laminations under dynamic loading.

  • This paper deals with the bifurcations of non-semi-simple eigenvalues at critical point of Hopf bifurcation to understand the dynamic behavior of the system. By using the Puiseux expansion, the expression of the bifurcation of non-semi-simple eigenvalues and the corresponding topological structure in the parameter space are obtained. The zero-order approximate solutions in the vicinity of the critical points at which the multiple Hopf bifurcation may occur are developed. A numerical example, the flutter problem of an airfoil in simplified model, is given to illustrate the application of the proposed method.

  • An exact solution is obtained for forced torsional vibration of a finite class 622 piezoelectric hollow cylinder with free-free ends subjected to dynamic shearing stress and time dependent electric potential at both internal and external surfaces. The solution is first expanded in axial direction with trigonometric series and the governing equations for the new variables about radial coordinate r and time t are derived with the aid of Fourier series expansion technique. By means of the superposition method and the separation of variables technique, the solution for torsional vibration is finally obtained. Natural frequencies and the transient torsional responses for finite class 622 piezoelectric hollow cylinder with free-free ends are computed and illustrated.

  • A unified mathematical model of phase-lag Green-Naghdi magneto-thermoelasticty theories based on fractional derivative heat transfer for perfectly conducting media in the presence of a constant magnetic field is given. The GN theories as well as the theories of coupled and of generalized magneto-thermoelasticity with thermal relaxation follow as limit cases. The resulting nondimensional coupled equations together with the Laplace transforms techniques are applied to a half space, which is assumed to be traction free and subjected to a thermal shock that is a function of time. The inverse transforms are obtained by using a numerical method based on Fourier expansion techniques. The predictions of the theory are discussed and compared with those for the generalized theory of magneto-thermoelasticity with one relaxation time. The effects of Alfven velocity and the fractional order parameter on copper-like material are discussed in different types of GN theories.

  • Activation energy asymptotics (AEA) for Linan's diffusion-flame regime is revisited in this paper. The main purpose of the paper is to carefully re-examine each AEA analysis step in order to clarify the some concepts that are often misunderstood among the ordinary practitioners of the AEA. Particular attention is focused on the different AEA regimes arising from the double limit of large Zel'dovich and Damkohler numbers. In addition. the expansion procedures are shown in detail and the method that the turning point condition, commonly known as the Linan's extinction condition, is found is explained.

  • Huntington's disease (HD) is an inherited neurodegenerative disease caused by abnormal polyglutamine (polyQ) expansion in the huntingtin protein (Htt). There is no cure for HD so far. Although exact molecular mechanism of HD pathogenesis is still elusive, fibril formation of the expanded Htt is linked to the toxicity. In this study, we prepared the expanded Htt containing 46 glutamines, and induced the fibrillation by proteolytic cleavage. Fibrillation of the pathogenic Htt has been monitored by time course NMR experiment. The NMR-based monitoring method could be widely used to screen the candidates to inhibit the fibrillation of the pathogenic Htt.

  • We calculated the expected length of jumper wires on MDF(Main Distribution Frame) in case of random jumper assignment, and from the calculated results we considered an optimal method of terminal arrangement and terminal expansion for keeping the length of jumper wires short, where MDF is a large frame-work installed in a telephone office for accommodating the terminals which are used for connecting the outside facilities to the inside facilities of the telephone office. We also showed the jumper saving effect in modular frames.

  • The differential pressure method has been used in the level measurement of steam generator in nuclear power plant. Two sensing lines from a steam generator to a pressure transmitter are needed to measure the high pressure and low pressure. The fluid conditions in the sensing line require the uniform phase with no bubbles and the slope of sensing line should be installed with forward slope. The expansion of the bubble volume according to the upper pressure and the reverse slope of sensing lines explain how the level errors took place.

  • In this paper, we propose a new scheme for the discretization of nonlinear systems using Taylor series expansion and the zero-order hold assumption. This scheme is applied to the sample-data representation of a nonlinear system with constant state tine-delay. The mathematical expressions of the discretization scheme are presented and the effect of the time-discretization method on key properties of nonlinear control system with state tine-delay, such as equilibrium properties and asymptotic ability, is examined. The proposed scheme provides a finite-dimensional representation for nonlinear systems with state time-delay enabling existing controller design techniques to be applied to then. The performance of the proposed discretization procedure is evaluated using a nonlinear system. For this nonlinear system, various sampling rates and time-delay values are considered.
