  • A thesis presented on the study of visitors circulation character, and components in an exhibition space in museums. A behavior ethogram is an investigational tool of tracing examination of visitors. An exhibition layout and behavior characters of exhibition viewing in the configuration of exhibition space are planned by using the method of the behavior ethogram. As time goes by an expansion of a museums concept and changing roles are more extroversive and constructive than the past. It will reflect the phases of the times and show several different aspects. The reflection of the changing circumstance will have to examine an each relationship between exhibition data, exhibition spaces and visitors In the beginning of a plan of the museum. However, the study of a unique behavior pattern and character which are made by moving visitors themselves are quietly not enough studied. The exhibition layout which is considerably examined by the viewing behavior of visitors in act response and a following circulation of viewing have a lack of precise directions and examples. In short, this study ultimately represents to grasp the meaning of the behavior characters of viewing. Furthermore, the basic directions in the museums plan are carefully considered by the reflection of exhibition circulation.

  • In contemporary society, Labyrinth and maze are used with the same meaning. They are also used by translating various meanings. But labyrinth and maze are exactly different meaning. The purpose of this study is to inquire about difference for understanding essential meaning between labyrinth and maze. First of all, this study is to grasp composition principles and the characteristics of space through example of labyrinth and maze from ancient to contemporary, prescribe about essential meaning between labyrinth and maze and examine contemporary architecture which is fit for essential meaning. As compositional Principle in labyrinth and maze applied to comtemporary architecture, the labyrinth are centrality, property of one-sideness, determinable space, on the contrary the maze are out of centrality, property of multi-sideness, indeterminable space. Finally, The aim of this paper is analyze exhibition space that suit to the characteristics of composition principle and find the characteristics in labyrinth and maze. Examples of exhibition space are Aldo Van Eyck's 'Sculpture Pavilion', Kazuyo Sejima's '21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art', Ben van berkel's'Museum Het Valkhof'. These research we studied the visitor's circulation and the architectural structure in exhibition space with the spatial characteristics and the compositional principle in labyrinth and maze.

  • Contemporary ceramic art as a new art form, how to convey the visual information of contemporary ceramic art works to the audience through the design and display of exhibition space is the primary problem of exhibition space design. Based on the current lack of research on contemporary ceramic art exhibition space design, this study focuses on the characteristics of contemporary ceramic art exhibition space design, in order to achieve the best exhibitions effect of contemporary ceramic art. Firstly, summarize the previous research and examine the "Spirit of Porcelain" -2021 Jingdezhen International Ceramic Art Biennial Exhibition held by the Art Museum of Jingdezhen Ceramic University. From the perspective of human factors engineering, combined with comparative analysis of the overall spatial layout and display space form, the scientific unity of the overall layout of the display space and the flexibility and sustainability of the exhibition space form design are obtained. The theoretical knowledge obtained in this study provides theoretical guidance and important practical significance for the design of contemporary ceramic art exhibition spaces; Simultaneously contributing to the development of contemporary ceramic art exhibition space design in China and even globally.

  • The core of character and concept in an exhibition space of contemporary museum is that the place for relics and materials changes into the place for spectators, the static exhibition place changes into the dynamic exhibition place, and the place for learning naturally during amusement. In other words, it could convey the conceptual exhibition object which is not the material object called a relic, it could be a place where is to investigate, participate, experience and enjoy with easily method to general public, and ordinary people are supposed to experience with integrative the world of intellectual, cultural and artistic which is inconcionsly rising a dimensiov. In order to response positively the change of these exhibition concept itself, exhibition system will be established through the analysis of realistic exhibition objects with the visulatization of theme or thought of an exhibitiov. In process of conveying image, the effective and concrete exhibition method and technique should be measured in order to realize the communication between spectators and exhibition objects. The purpose of this study is to find the methodology which is enable to establish the exhibition theme and presentation system through the selection and analysis of exhibition objects in major cases of a musem of ecience and engneering, to find the process model till the methodology applies to the space scheme, and to find finally the designed indicators which is applicable to the progress of exhibition desigv.

The Variation of Visitor' Behavior in relation to the Planar Exhibition and the Three Dimensional Exhibition in Art Museum;focused on Busan Museum of Modern Art (미술관에서 평면전시와 입체전시에 따른 관람행태의 변화;부산시립미술관을 중심으로)

  • The objective of this study is to investigate how visitors' behavior change in relation to the pattern of exhibition in art museum. For the purpose Busan Museum of Modern Art was selected as the sample in this study. And two patterns of exhibition, namely the planar exhibition and the three dimensional exhibition, were surveyed using the tracking movement method. The data gathered from random-sampling 60 visitors in a art museum was analyzed by the correlation analysis and T-test. The results are as follows; 1) There is no meaningful difference in visitors' behavior by the exhibition pattern in terms of their viewing area, viewing time, viewing distance, viewing velocity, viewing rate. 2) In contrast, there is meaningful difference in terms of the number of stops by visitors and the time spent without movement to see the objects; visitors stopped more often and stayed longer within the three dimensional exhibition space than the planar exhibition in a art museum. In sum, visitors extrinsically show no big behavioral difference between the planar exhibition and the three dimensional exhibition, but much difference in the way they communicate with objects; they show more active behavior within the three dimensional exhibition space.

  • The development of internet has changed the realm of life from off-line to on-line, causing not only the overall change in society but also urgently demanding change in the basic concept of museum. Virtual Museums have appeared in line with such changes, and they utilize space regardless of real time and space unlike the traditional museums that collected and preserved works for exhibition in physical space thereby playing a role of catalyst for exhibition in virtual space and for direct exchange with the public. Through relevant literatures and case studies, the present research particularly investigated the exhibition characteristics of virtual reality-based museums out of all types of cyber museum, in an effort to make a comparison with those of offline museums, and eventually to suggest a direction of virtual reality museums that would be established in the future and to consider the possibilities of utilizing them.

  • In reflection of the current trend of times requiring the harmonization of nature, human being and scientific technologies, science museum has become more and more familiar to public and demand on it is also increasing. Information on the culture of science and technology is an engine for exploiting the future, particularly in the industrialized, informationalized and specialized society. Thus the science museum, the function of which is to convey such information, should be planned with the purpose of active and progressive communication. This purpose of planning can be achieved through well established process of the exhibition space production. This study focuses on the importance of the exhibition space production in the design of the science museum and proceeds as follows. 1. The concept of the exhibition space production is established following the review of function and the role of science museum. 2. The methods and the media used in the exhibition space production are suggested and the case study is made. 3. The scenarios for the exhibition space production planning are suggested and the effect and importance of the space production is enlightened. The result of this study shows that the space production increases the effectiveness of the exhibition in the science museum and that space production process should be reflected in planning the project.

  • This study is to a question in argument that existing theses about a trait spatial configuration of exhibition space were analyzed without appropriateness verification of analysis characteristics. Firstly, through theoretical studies of established thesis, validity twenty analysis characteristics was chosen by making an investigation into existing analysis characteristics. Secondly, through a subject of our investigation, forty-two exhibition space of nineteen museums and art museum at home and abroad, a distribution map of exhibition space was analyzed by multivariate analysis. As a result of this study : 1) Nine analysis characteristics which extracted through multivariate analysis was the principal analysis characteristics. 2) A scale was important characteristic for the classification of museum therefore a degree of space perception was ought to compare every one of similar scale museum. 3) When comparing a trait of spatial configuration at exhibition space, these characteristics came into effect on middle sized museums. 4) It was visually confirmed a trait of spatial configuration of each group between museum and art museum

A Study on the Consciousness of Exhibition Administrator of National Museums (국공립 박물관 전시 행정담당자의 의식 연구)

  • An exhibition administrator, one who works in the exhibition space of museums and exhibition halls, has carried on various tasks in order to improve the exhibition standard and viewer's satisfaction. Although exhibition administrators have a variety of direct perceptions regarding an exhibition in the actual on-site space, a study on their consciousness was absent. Thus, this study was to comprehend the awareness of how the consciousness of exhibition administrators, who directly understand the various matters regarding the exhibition on-site, was structured and to investigate the difference between the consciousness of exhibition viewers and designers. For the study, Q-Methodology, which can scientifically manage the consciousness such as awareness and the acquired attitudes through individual experiences from a specific group, was applied. The classification of 33 Q-methodology research questions was carried out with 18 exhibition administrators, who are working at either national or public museums and exhibition halls in Korea, and the Principal Component Analysis (PCA) using the QUANL PC program was performed. The results of the analysis provided the following 4 types: 'viewer attraction and exhibition method oriented', 'exhibition standard oriented', 'public relations oriented' and 'the public and government's interest oriented'. Each type showed significant characteristics. Additionally, n showed that 'exhibition standard oriented' was the common type after comparing the type of consciousness among the 3 groups of people, such as an exhibition administrator, an exhibition designer, and a viewer. It indicated that the types of 'public relations oriented' and 'the public and government's interest oriented' from the consciousness category for the exhibition administrator were the most independent type, not being found in any of the other groups. And the Significant correlation between the exhibition viewers and designers was identified after examining the Pearson's correlation among the 3 groups.
