The increasing automobiles continue to cause air-pollution problem s worse than ever. In fact, many automobile research are involved in how to reduce exhaust emissions effectively specially in $NO_X$ and PM to comply with stringent emission standards, Euro V. This research emphasized on the development of continuous regeneration DPF technology which was one of promising removing technology of particulate matters because of its comparability and high applicability. In addition, this research discussed on some design points of view through correlation study by com paring the experimental data with computational results by the introduction of commercial codes such as CFD-ACE+ and KIVA-3V. The numerical simulation on the performance of continuous regeneration DPF apparatus and corresponding emission characteristics has been predicted well enough and verified with experimental results. The pressure and average temperatures are decreased to about 2.6% and 1.4% respectively under a full engine load condition mainly due to back pressures raised by diesel particulate filter. Pressure, temperature and heat releasing rates tend to decrease specially at higher engine load, but they are not affected at lower engine load regions.

This study investigated the wear of the valve and seat insert seating faces. A tester, an exhaust valve and a seat insert were used. Test variables were cycle numbers ($2{\times}10^6,\;4{\times}10^6,\;6{\times}10^6\;and\;8{\times}10^6$) and Hz (10Hz and 25Hz). The other test conditions such as temperature ($350^{\circ}C$), fuel (LPG) and load (1960N) were fixed. The 10Hz tests indicated that the average Rmax of the valve increased at the rate of $7.76{\mu}m/10^6$ cycles starting from $29.42{\mu}m$ at the $2{\times}10^6$ cycles and that of the seat insert increased at the rate of $8.57{\mu}m/10^6$ cycles starting from $34.19{\mu}m$ at the $2{\times}10^6$ cycles. The 25Hz tests indicated that the average Rmax of the valve increased at the rate of $1.58{\mu}m/10^6$ cycles starting from $74.2{\mu}m$ at the $2{\times}10^6$ cycles and that of the seat insert increased at the rate of $1.25{\mu}m/10^6$ cycles starting from $83.95{\mu}m$ at the $2{\times}10^6$ cycles. The tribochemical reaction product covered the two seating faces, preventing the wear of the seating faces. As cycle numbers became greater, the average Rmax of the seating faces became greater, but the increase rate varied significantly depending on the Hz. The wear mechanism of the two faces was investigated through the tribochemical reaction.

The purpose of study is to obtain low-emission and high-efficiency in LPG engine with hydrogen enrichment. The test engine was named heavy-duty variable compression ratio single cylinder engine (VCSCE). The fuel supply system provides LPG/hydrogen mixtures based on same heating value. Various sensors such as crank shaft position sensor (CPS) and hall sensor supply spark timing data to ignition controller. Displacement of VCSCE is $1858.2cm^3$. VCSCE was runned 1400rpm with compression ratio 8. Spark timing was set MBT without knocking. Relative air-fuel ratio(${\lambda}$) of this work was varied between 0.76 and 1.5. As a result, i) Maximum thermal efficiency occurred at ${\lambda}$ value 1.0. It was shown that thermal efficiency was increased approximately 5% with hydrogen enrichment at same ${\lambda}$ value. ii) Engine-out carbon monoxide (CO) emissions were decreased at a great rate under LPG/hydrogen mixture fuelling. iii) Total hydrocarbon (THC) emission was much exhausted in rich zone, same as CO. But THC was exhausted a little bit more in lean zone. iv) Finally, engine-out oxides of nitrogen (NOx) was increased with ${\lambda}$ value 1.0 zone at a greater rate with hydrogen enrichment due to high adiabatic flame temperature.
Because the perimeter of buildings is strongly influenced by solar and the outdoor air temperature, the area has different environmental properties compared to the interior of a building, as in summer heat gain, and in winter heat loss. In particular, if the external wall is glass, the characteristics of the glass material make it pervious to outside conditions, thereby making big changes to the thermal environment. By combining shading device and the efficient exhaust system, an energy saving can be achieved compared to no air barrier systems. The simplified air barrier system is developed with the idea that energy could be conserved by carefully and effectively blowing out the air caught between the glass surface and the roller blind. The way it is configured is therefore by making the roller blind's air-path, and by placing the air output ducts in the most optimum positions. This simplified air barrier system will give improvement in the thermal environment of the parameter area that is strongly affected by solar and the outdoor condition.

We develop heat exchanger modules for a multi-burner boiler. The heat exchanger module is kind of a heat recovery steam generator (HRSG). This heat recovery system has 4 heat exchanger modules. The 1st module consists of 27 bare tubes due to high temperature exhaust gas and the others consist of 27 finned tubes. The maximum steam pressure of each module is 10 bar and tested steam pressure is 4 bar. In order to test these heat exchanger modules, we make a 0.5t/h flue tube boiler (LNG, $40\;Nm^3/h$). The test results of 100% boiler load show that heat transfer rate of 1st module is 49.7 Mcal/h which is 34% of total heat transfer rate and that of 2nd module is 82.6 Mcal/h which is 57% of total heat transfer rate. The reason of higher the heat transfer rate of 2nd module than that of 1st module is that the 2nd heat exchanger module has finned tubes instead of bare tube. The boiler load 50% results show that only 2 heat exchanger modules are needed to extract the heat from the flue gas to water. From this result, it is very important of optimum design of the first finned tube among all water tubes.
Flow characteristics of a differential pressure flow meters which have a shape of triangular separate bar (TSB) was investigated according to machining conditions in pressure tapping holes. Size of pressure tapping holes is machined with either 1.0 mm or 1.5 mm in diameter. Also, number of pressure tapping holes are drilled either 9 or 17. The mass flow rate of the TSB flow meters are calibrated with a laminar flow meter by connecting them in line. The mass flow rate in the TSB flow meters are plotted with a non-dimensional parameter H which includes the gas temperature, exhaust gas pressure and differential pressure at the flow meters, and atmospheric pressure. An empirical correlation between the mass flow rate at the TSB flow meter and the non-dimensional parameter H was obtained. The empirical correlation showed highly linear relationship between the mass flow rate and the non-dimensional parameter H. The hole size of the pressure tapping holes has a bigger effect on the flow rate than the number of the tapping holes.

It is being more serious problems that the pollutant and the greenhouse gas emitted from the internal combustion engines due to the increasing demand of automobiles. To counteract this, as one of the ways has been studied, GDI type engine, which is directly injected into the combustion chamber and burns by a spark ignition that chose the merits of both gasoline engine and diesel engine, was appeared. The combustion phenomena in this GDI engine is known to contribute to combustion stability, fuel consumption reduction and reductions of harmful substances of exhaust gas emission, when the fuel spray of atomization being favorable and the mixture formation being promoted. Accordingly, this study analyzed the affection of ambient temperature and fuel injection pressure to the fuel by investigate the visualization of combustion, combustion pressure and the characteristic of emission, by applying GDI system on the constant combustion chamber. As a result, as the fuel injection pressure increases, the fuel distribution in the combustion chamber becomes uniform due to the increase of penetration and atomization. And when ambient temperatures in the combustion chamber become increase, the fuel evaporation rate being high but the penetration was reduced due to the reduction of volume flux, and confirmed that the optimized fuel injection strategy is highly needed.
This study aimed at developing high-efficiency RDF(refuse derived fuels) fuel in order to use RDF energy rationally and to recycle industrial product. As most studies in this area are concentrated in large combustion apparatuses such as kilns, but this study was focused on the small-sized heating systems, applying them directly to grate type boiler which has a heating capacity of $66{\sim}132m^2$. The different kinds of fuel are experimented including RDF. Coke and Waste Tire. First, for this, we experimented and analyzed RDF to see the change in its mass and heating value. Also, four kinds of exhaust gas are sampled by gas analyzer including CO, $CO_2$, NO and $NO_2$ at different temperature. As a result, the levels of CO concentration of RDF are higher than these of coke and waste tire. But, the levels of NO, $CO_2$ and $SO_2$ concentration of RDF and coke were lower then the levels when waste tire is burned.

The engine ground and altitude tests were carried out to investigate the effect of jet fuel alteration on the performance of a small turbojet engine. JP-S was supplied 8% higher than JP-8 by fuel metering system at the same command. The employment of JP-S showed the similar starting characteristic to that of JP-8, however, difference in the ignition time and acceleration rate of engine speed due to the difference of fuel flow rate by fuel metering system was observed. In spite of jet fuel alteration, the test results yield the similar Steady-State engine performance in Net thrust, Air flow, Exhaust Gas Temperature, etc. On the other hand, the Fuel consumption of JP-S increased by 5 % compared with that of JP-8. In point of Specific Fuel Consumption (SFC), SFC of JP-S was approximately 1.1~2.6 %, 5 % higher than that of JP-8 in ground and altitude tests respectively at the same thrust.
The objective of this study is to propose basic design guidelines for more effective air ventilation system in apartments. It is well known that ventilation depends on whether the room doors are open or closed as well as people's living patterns. This study considers 84 ㎡-sized apartment which has extended living room without balcony. Ventilation of bathroom and kitchen is not considered. The height of the building, external air pressure and air infiltration through the windows are also neglected. The regulation on indoor air quality made it mandatory that the air change per hour be more than 0.7. Four models are suggested to study the effect of open and closed doors. Models 1 and 3 are open door types and models 2 and 4 are closed door types. The open types have 50 mm hole near the top of the door to substitute exhaust outlet. The ventilation effectiveness was evaluated by 3-dimensional numerical simulation using finite volume method by a commercial software. This work compares air flow, temperature of air, age of air and the efficiency of ventilation of apartments with wooden doors of bedroom 1 and 2, which are open or closed.
