This study was carried out to investigate lead contamination in the leaves of roadside trees and the cause of yellow-brown symptom of leaves in Jinju and Daegu city. After the leaves were collected and dried in 105$^{\circ}C$ drying oven from September to October in 1974, the samples were used for analysis of the lead contents in 1976. The roadside trees in the two cities were mostly the four kinds of Ginkgo biloba L., Thuja orientalis L., Platanus orientalis L. var. acerifolia AIT. and Prunus pseudo-cerasus $LINDL{\times}Prunus$ subhirtella MIQ. The lead contents in the leaves of roadside trees in Daegu city was higher than that of Jinju city. The lead contamination of the evergreen trees of roadside was higher than that of the deciduous trees. In Jinju city the site of the highest contents of lead in the leaves was revealed with Jinju station(0.73ppm), the next site was revealed with the road(0.16ppm) between Namgang bridge and Jinju middle school, and the lowest site was generally beside the roads of suburbs (0.07ppm). Because of the low contents of lead in the leaves, it was found that the yellow-brown symptoms of leaves were not caused by the lead toxicity.
The level of soil organic carbon (SOC) fluctuates in different types of forest stands: this variation can be attributed to differences in tree species, and the variables associated with soil, climate, and topographical features. The present review evaluates the level of SOC in different types of forest stands to determine the factors responsible for the observed variation. Mixed stands have the highest amount of SOC, while coniferous (both deciduous-coniferous and evergreen-coniferous) stands have greater SOC concentrations than deciduous (broadleaved) and evergreen (broadleaved) tree stands. There was a significant negative correlation between SOC and mean annual temperature (MAT) and sand composition, in all types of forest stands. In contrast, the silt fraction has a positive correlation with SOC, in all types of tree stands. Variation in SOC under different types of forest stands in different landscapes can be due to differences in MAT, and the sand and silt fraction of soil apart from the type of forests.
To study the actual vegetation and vegetation structure of Tongyoung district and Yokjido (Island) in Hallyo-Haesang National Park, thirty seven plots were surveyed in July,1998. The vegetation structure of the surveyed plots were dissimilar in virtue of geographical isolation and artificial disturbance. The actual vegetation were classified into five group: Pinus thunbergii forest, P. thunbergii-P. densiflora- deciduous broad-leaved forest, deciduous broad-leaved forest, P. thunbergii-P. densiflora-evergreen broad-leaved forest, evergreen broad-leaved forest. P. thunbergii forest was a major vegetaion type of the surveyed area and evergreen broad-leaved forests were distributed at Ch'ubongdo, Yongch'odo, Pijindo, Yokjido and Youjado as a small patch. Successional sere shall be assumed from Pinus thunbergii, Pinus densiflora, and deciduous broad leaved trees to Neolitsea sericea, Cinnamomum japonicum and Persea thunbergii via Castanopsis sieboldii.
Vaccinium bracteatum Thunb. is an evergreen plant that belongs to the Genus Vaccinium distributed in Korea, and its fruit has been used for food by the common people and thus has a high possibility of commercialization. Therefore, the habitat environment and individual characteristics of V. bracteatum in Jeju Island were investigated to obtain the basic data for commercialization and preservation. The results showed that V. bracteatum is mostly distributed on the southern slope of Mt. Halla at an altitude of 100 to 500 m. V. bracteatum that occurred in the quadrat were total 30 individuals, which had an average height of 6.0 m, an average DBH of 7.8 cm, and an average number of trunk of 4.3. As for the community structure of the habitat, the average percentage of vegetation cover for the tree layer was 36%, while that for the subtree layer was 78%, which emphasized the importance of the subtree layer. The total number of species that occurred in the quadrat was 76. For the tree layer, total 10 species occurred, which include 2 species of evergreen coniferous trees, 3 species of evergreen broad-leaved trees, and 5 species of deciduous broad-leaved trees. For the subtree layer, total 24 species occurred, which include 1 species of evergreen coniferous tree, 11 species of evergreen broad-leaved trees, and 10 species of deciduous broad-leaved trees. Among these, Eurya japonica Thunb. was the species with a high relative contribution, which threatened V. bracteatum For the shrub layer, 27 species occurred including Cinnamomum japonicum Siebold, and for the herbaceous layer, 64 species occurred including Ardisia crenata Sims. The similarity between the habitats of V. bracteatum was very low, and it did not prefer a characteristic community. The V. bracteatum community around Shinrei stream was distributed on the surrounding area adjacent to the slope of the stream rather than the slope. There were a lot of basins, but the branches, which did not receive sunlight, had withered. It is thought that V. bracteatum would decline if the forest formation continues.

The purpose of this study is to offer the raw data for improving the method of landscape planting in apartment complex by objective surveying and analysing the growth ratio by type and ground planted in landscape tree. The results are as follows. In the survival ratio of tree, Pinus densiflora was the highest and Abies koreana was the lowest in evergreen tree. In case of deciduous tree, the species of the highest survival ratio were Diospyros kaki, Zelkova serrata, Prunus mume, Lagerstroemia indica and Ginkgo biloba. There showed that Sorbus commixta and Chaenomeles sinensis had the lowest survial ratio. In case of tree growth by types, Pinus strobus was the highest and Pinus densiflora var. globosa was the lowest among evergreen trees. Among deciduous trees, the growth ratio of Zelkova serrata was the highest, and the trees showed the lowest growth were Lagerstroemia indica, Magnolia denudata and Cornus officinalis. Pinus strobus, Cornus kousa, Ginkgo biloba, Chionanthus retusa and Acer palmatum were good growth in natural ground, and Zelkova serrata and Prunus armeniaca var. ansu were good in artificial ground. In the future, if you study the growth characteristics and shrubs that are excluded from the study of landscape trees in various locations are expected to derive objective data.
This study showed the current plantation of woody landscape plants of 42 school gardens in Daejeon metropolitan city. The ratio between evergreen tree and deciduous tree was 67% to 33%. The ratio between evergreen shrub and deciduous shrub was 48% to 52%. Also, 161 kinds of woody species were found; evergreen tree was 21 species, deciduous tree was 67 species, evergreen shrub was 16 species, deciduous shrub was 44 species, and vine and the others were 13 species. The proportion of native woody species was 61% (98 out of 161 species). 110 species were planted at the front garden area. In the mid-garden, 77 kinds of woody species were found. In the side garden, 95 kinds of woody species were found. In the rear garden, 92 kinds of woody species were found. The surrounding of play ground and outer area were planted 82 species. The first ranked evergreen tree was Juniperus chinensis‘Kaizuka’. And Deciduous tree, evergreen shrub, deciduous shrub, and vine showed Gingko biloba, Buxus microphylla var. koreana, Hibiscus syriacus, Wisteria floribunda, respectively. The school symbol of tree and flower was planted in 41 schools. The first rank plants of school symbol tree and flower were Pinus densiflora, Forsythia koreana and Rosa spp. Plant nameplate was found at 22 schools. The plant nameplate was used for 1∼10 species at 17 schools. In conclusion, plantation of landscape trees should be considered characteristic of each school area. In addition, school landscape should be planned distinction of a elementary school, a middle school, a high school, and a school for handicapped. School landscape should be considered carefully from functional, natural, educational environment and maintenance viewpoints as well as urban forest networking.

The purpose of the study is investigating the price fluctuation of landscaping plants in the Information on Commodity Prices(ICP) and the posted price fluctuation of landscaping plants of Public Procurement Service(PPS) recent 10 years. It also provides the basic information which can be applied to production and sales of landscaping plants, comparing with general price index. The major findings of the study are as follows. First, The price of investigated plants of PPS has increased about 4.56% in average recent 10 years. Among this increase, of evergreen tree was predominant. On the other hand, landscaping trees price of ICP has increased about only 2.34% in average. Secondly, The result shows that average price of investigated plants of PPS is positively related with the price of ICP. For this reason, we found that prices of ICP and of PPS move together in most case. However, we found that there are no relation between Consumer Price Index(CPI), Producer Price Index(PPI) and Agricultural Price Index(API). Therefore, price fluctuation of landscaping trees moves regardless of normal price fluctuation in general. Third, even though result shows that price index of evergreen trees, deciduous trees and shrubs are weakly related with normal price index partly, it was not high enough to be significant. According to the result, we found that price of landscaping plants is not related with market situation. For this reason, we thought that there are some difficulties for the reasonable production and sales of landscaping plants because the price is somewhat decided by rule of thumb. Therefore, understanding the composition of cost and making prediction by price fluctuation available are needed so that it can be practically conducive to reasonable production and sales.

Litter decomposition is an important process in terrestrial ecosystem. However, studies on decomposition are rare, especially in evergreen broadleaf trees. We collected the leaf litter of five evergreen broadleaf trees (Daphniphyllum macropodum, Dendropanax morbifera, Castanopsis cuspidata var. thunbergii, Machilus thunbergii and Quercus acuta), and carried out a decomposition experiment using the litterbag method in Ju-do, Wando-gun, Korea for 731 days from December 25, 2011 to December 25, 2013. Among the five experimental tree species, C. cuspidata var. thunbergii distribution was limited in Jeju Island, and D. macropodum was distributed at the highest latitude at Mt. Baekyang (N 35°40′). About 2% of the initial litter mass of D. macropodum and D. morbifera remained, while 20.9% remained for C. cuspidata var. thunbergii, 30.4% for M. thunbergii, and 31.6% for Q. acuta. D. macropodum litter decayed four times faster (k = 2.02 yr-1) than the litter of Q. acuta (k = 0.58 yr-1). The decomposition of litter was positively influenced by thermal climate such as accumulated mean daily air temperature (year day index) and precipitation, as well as by physical characteristics such as thickness (R2=0.939, P = 0.007) and specific leaf area (SLA) (R2 = 0.964, P = 0.003). The characteristics of chemical composition such as lignin (R2 = 0.939, P = 0.007) and water-soluble materials (R2 = 0.898, P = 0.014) showed significant correlations with litter decomposition. However, the nutrients in litter showed complicated species-specific trends. The litter of D. macropodum and D. morbifera had fast decomposition despite their low nitrogen concentration and high C/N ratio. This means that the litter decomposition was more strongly affected by physical characteristics than chemical composition and nutrient content. On the other hand, the litter of Q. acuta which had the slowest decay rate had a high amount of N and low C/N ratio. Thus, the decomposition of Q. acuta litter was more affected by the P content of the litter than the N content, although all litter had similar physical characteristics.
This study was carried out on Kongju National University and its neighboring area, Mt. Gyeryong national park and Mt. Worak national park in the breeding season of long-tailed tits Aegithalos caudaatus from 2008 to 2012. The result of the inquiry, the nests were found in 15 species of trees, and this result shows me it's not choosy about them. But after having classified them according to the features and analyzed them, long-tailed tits preferred evergreen needleleaf tree and deciduous broad-leaf tree and deciduous bush, especially evergreen needleleaf tree. The concealment rate of long-tailed tits' nests was $11.61{\pm}4.79%]\;4.38{\pm}2.19%$(n=29) in Kongju National University and it's neighboring area, $6.06{\pm}2.31%$(n=43) in Mt. Gyeryong national park and $4.38{\pm}2.19%$(n=32) in Mt. Worak national park. By regional groups, the concealment rates of neighboring nests were almost same, but there are no differences among the areas. The average of the color codes was $26.52{\pm}16.14$(n=32) that those of the nest subtract from those of surroundings of the nest. The nests were procryptic according to their surroundings, and if their nest in a tree were evergreen needleleaf trees, they were made of moss. while if the trees of nest in a tree were yellow because of fungus, made of dried moss, they were yellow, too.

The purpose of this study is to compare and analyze how many species of trees presented with scientific names are on the written test for engineer landscape architecture, as their usage has increased in the landscape industry in recent years. The following is the result of comparing and analyzing the species of trees which are frequently used in landscape, planting construction, and the scientific name questions presented in the previous 6 years by year on the written test for engineer landscape architecture. First, the results of analyzing the examination question frequency by year in the landscape planting subject showed a gradually declining trend from 2014 after peaking at 56.6% in 2013. Second, 163 species of trees using scientific names were presented in questions on the written test for engineer landscape architecture over the previous 6 years and these included Betula platyphylla, Sophora japonica, Cercis chinensis, Taxus cuspidata. The number of species of trees used in landscape construction during the same period was 169 including Pinus densiflora, Chionanthus retusus, Cornus officinalis, Syringa dilatata. The result of interviews with landscape planting construction officials showed that when choosing the species of trees, they emphasize ecological characteristics, such as the ratio of trees to shrubs, flowers and autumn leaf characteristics, and also consider the morphological characteristics, landscape characteristics, economic feasibility, and the supply and demand situation. Third, it was found that 70 (42.9%) out of 163 species of trees presented with scientific names on the examination were not used in landscape planting construction and 76 (44.9%) out of 169 species were not used as material for questions. As for the scientific name questions, deciduous trees and evergreen shrubs accounted for the more questions, Evergreen and deciduous tree and shrubs were most common in landscape planting construction as well.
