Purpose: This study has been attempted as one of the Quality Improvement activities in order to provide with intravenous injection control and to confirm the evaluation from the patients and their guardians, and also from nurses themselves. Method: The subject of this intravenous injection control was a control group of 239 patients and 176 nurses, a comparison group of 128 patients and 146 nurses. The tool consisted of hospitality (towards patients), explanation, and infection prevention activities. The collected data were analysed using SPSS Windows 11.0 program for percentage, $X^2$-test and t-test. Result: 1) The nurses who were instructed in standardised intravenous injection control received more satisfactory evaluation from the patients(t=-2.89, p=.004) than the nurses who were not. However, in the subdivisions, the explanation field was the only one to receive a more satisfactory evaluation(t=-1.14, p=.255). 2) The nurses who were instructed in standardised intravenous injection control showed higher performances in intravenous injection control (t=-4.21, p=.000) than the nurses who were not. In the subdivisions, hospitality, explanation, and infection prevention activities all showed effectiveness ($t=-2.35{\sim}3.90$, $p=.020{\sim}.000$). Conclusion: From the results stated above, it can be concluded that standardised intravenous injection control instruction for nurses brought out better evaluation, i.e. satisfaction, from the patients and their guardians, and the nurses who received the instruction showed better performances in intravenous injection control.
As a cross-sectional study, this study was aimed to investigate and compare the job efficiency and satisfaction of nurses according to the hospital grade. Survey was conducted by mail on June 2009, and the respondents were 1,016 nurses working in 15 hospitals which are 9 high-grade general hospitals and 6 general hospitals. The percent of nurses acknowledging their hospital grades is 34.5%, and that is 20.5% at high-grade general hospitals. As the result of review of studies, it is concluded that under the circumstance that differential rates are contracted to calculate fees for hospital services and copayment of patients are according to nursing grades and hospital grades, the degree of nurses' awareness of insurance fees impact on their performance like recording of care and prescription. In order to improve nurses' performance, they need to be educated about the national insurance fee system. In hospitals with higher nursing grade and more beds, the levels of nursing quality and faithfulnes and their job satisfaction were higher. Nurses' awareness of their hospital nursing grade was related to the quality of nursing but not the faithfulness. Nurses working in higher nursing-grade hospital are more self-respect and satisfied at their jobs, and their job efficiencies are not significantly different. The current nursing fees based on the proper number of nurses per beds of nursing units should be changed to be based on the amount of job per nurse by their nursing protocol, and the nurse staffing standard should be differentiated between nursing grades. As the aspect of nursing, 24-hours patient care, it is difficult to improve nurses' job satisfaction, and in the other hand, that tends to depend on their income level. In the current circumstance, comprehensive research is required to investigate the propriety of 25% of the inpatient fees as the nursing management charge.
Purpose : The purpose of this study is to present the desirable level of home health care services by identifying the roles and activities by task of home health nursing specialists as well as to raise the level of professionalism in home health care services. Method : This is a methodological study. The roles and activities by task were identified through a review of literature and a state-of-the-practice survey, and were structured into a questionnaire after being reviewed and modified through a consensus of experts. The field survey was conducted on 136 home health nursing specialists at medical institutions, public health centers. public medical institutions, non-governmental organizations, and religious institutions in Seoul, Gyeonggi Province. Incheon, Busan, Daegu, and Gwanggju from June 4 to August 4. 2004. Seven roles. 34 tasks and 130 activities were identified in association with home health nursing specialists. Result : The roles of home health nursing specialists were identified as professional nursing service provider, advisor, educator, administrator, case manager, researcher and leader. Under these roles. 34 tasks and 134 task-specific activities were identified. Conclusion : The the roles and activities of home health nursing specialist identified in this study can be used in various home health care settings. These the roles and activities should provide the evaluation criteria of home health care services for institutions with existing home health care programs. An evaluation tool should be developed in order to ensure the hish quality of home health care services.
Computerization has been applied in most areas of health care in recent years. But computerized standardized nursing care plans have not yet been adequately developed even though they can significantly contribute to an improvement in the quality of nursing care. Therefore, this study was done to develop computerized nursing care plans. For this purpose, the study had the following objectives ; 1) to develop a computerized program for standardized nursing care plans which include defining characteristics, relating factors, expected out-comes and nursing interventions 2) to test applicability of the computerized pro-grams to the actual clinical situation of the clinical nurse. Application of the system development life cycle by davis was used as the study methodology. There are five stages in this method : strategy planning development, system analysis, system design, system practice and system evaluation. The first four steps in this methodology were used in this project. Two clinical nurses were selected to apply this computerized program in the clinical situation. The results of the study are as follows ; 1) Ten standardized nursing care plans including defining characteristics, relating factors, expected outcomes and nursing interventions which had been proven to have validity in the clinical setting were computerized using the Foxbase Program. 2) These programs were applied to the actual clinical situation by two clinic친 nurses working at Severance Hospital. For further study, continuous revision should be done by the users. Evaluation related to the utilization of the program should also be done.
Purpose: This study was to evaluate the quality of online health information related to infants and preschoolers accessible through mobile applications and websites. Methods: Using combinations of the terms 'infant', 'preschooler', and 'health' as the main keyword or categories, the researchers searched relevant mobile applications and websites in Korean application markets and popular search engines. Twelve mobile application and 14 websites were finally selected according to our inclusion criteria and evaluated using DISCERN instrument. Results: The overall quality score of online health information available through mobile applications was 2.00 of 5 points, the reliability score was 2.15, and the quality score was 1.76. The overall quality score of online health information available through websites was 2.29, the reliability score was 2.40, and the quality score was 1.82. Conclusion: The quality of online health information related to young children was found to be low and to have potentially significant drawbacks according to DISCERN criteria. Therefore, it is necessary to establish a system to evaluate and regulate the quality of online health information. Additionally, factors that readers can use to judge the quality of health information, such as references and the benefit versus risks of the information, should be provided.
Web sites on the internet are excellent resources for the younger generation to gain information related to sexuality education. The potential benefits of the information of sexuality education on web sites are obvious. But the information of sexuality education on web sites could also result in potentially negative effects. Yet the quality of the information of sexuality education on web sites is variable and difficult to assess. There is no rating criteria for quality assessment of the information on web sites. The rating criteria for quality assessment of information of sexuality education were investigated and reviewed. Among the criteria, best 15 items to evaluate the information of sexuality education on web sites were selected and identified in this study. 15 items were categorized to reliability ( 3 items ), content ( 6 items ), goal ( 2 items ), design & technology ( 4 items ). This 15-items questionnaires is considered as commonly implementable criteria for the information of sexuality education on web sites in Korean. 20 web sites related to sexualtiy education were evaluated and the results were discussed.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate and compare the level of importance, difficulty, satisfaction, and needs of biological nursing science courses-pathophysiology and pharmacology- among students of Advanced Practice Nursing Programs. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study using a self-report questionnaire has been adopted. Participants in this survey were 436 graduate students enrolled in an Advanced Practice Nursing Program. Using SPSS WIN 18.0 program, descriptive statistics, chi-square test, and t-test were conducted. Results: In a pathophysiology course, the students taught by nurse lecturers presented a higher level of importance and satisfaction than those were taught by non-nurse lecturers, but the difference was not significant statistically. In a pharmacology course, the students were taught by nurse lecturers expressed a higher level of satisfaction than those were taught by non-nurse lecturers, but the difference was not significant statistically. The students wanted to improve the quality of courses. Conclusion: According to the findings of this study, we should try to improve the quality of classes and to increase the number of courses taught by nurse-lecturers.
Purpose: The purpose of this research was to develop and evaluate a distress nursing intervention for relieving psychosocial distress. Methods: We developed a twelve-week non-pharmacological distress nursing intervention to decrease distress. This intervention includes cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness based stress reduction, psychoeducation and supportive therapy. The participants were 27 gynecologic cancer patients who agreed to participate in this study, selected by convenience sampling (experimental group-17 and control group-10). The data collection period was performed from November, 8, 2010 to February, 1, 2011. Data were analyzed by using the SPSS/WIN 18.0 program. Results: There were no difference between the two groups distress score, distress problem and quality of life. The experimental group had significant higher IL-12 and IFN-${\gamma}$ and lower TGF-${\beta}$ between before and after the distress nursing intervention. Conclusion: The findings indicate that the distress nursing intervention was an effective intervention in improving immunologic function of gynecological cancer patients.
Gradually, there has been increase in the use of qualitative research methods in nursing research. Nursing scholars are using qualitative research methods to explore the essence of nursing and discover its meaning. However, there has been lack of standards for evaluating qualitative nursing research. Often nursing researchers are applying quantitative research evaluation standards to qualitative nursing research. Thus, there has not been any notable qualitative research done to date. In order to improve the quality of nursing research done to discover new knowledge for the nursing, & for development of nursing theory, criteria for critiquing qualitative research should be established. Therefore, this researcher introduced standards as criteria for critiquing qualitative research which are based on literature reviews and re search experiences. The suggested criteria are developed several question's as follows : 1) description of the research phenomena, 2) significance, 3) research purpose, 4) research question, 5) assumptions, 6) researcher's abilities, 7) selection of research samples, 8) data collection, 9) human subjects, 10) data analysis, 11) description of researcher's results, 12) literature review. Follow-up of concrete questions for each of the criterias have been developed.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship among staffing, occupancy rate, upward level change of long-term care need, and evaluation grade of facility. Data were obtained from National Health Insurance Corporation Database. Occupancy rate and evaluation grade were highest in National/public operating facilities, while they were worst in individual operating facilities. The percents of A or B grade in evaluation grade (by newly enforced law) is highest in National/public operating facilities. Multiple regression analysis showed that upward level change of care needs was very weakly associated with the number of doctors. Evaluation grade showed a weak and significant association with occupancy ratey(by old-version law)(r=.20, p<.01), upward level change of care need in group home(r=.23, p<.01) Staffing in facility did not show significantly consistent association with upward level change of care needs, evaluation grade, and occupancy rate.
