As patients have concerned the esthetics of dental restorations, the porcelain fused to metal restorations have gain their popularity due to their strength and esthetic appearance for many years. However, metal collar in subgingival level of porcelain fused to metal restoration often causes black shadows. Inadequately positioned metal collar causes plaque depositions, gingival inflammations, black shadows, and discolorations of margin area. Those problems can be avoided by a clear finishing line, well-fabricated provisional restorations with precise margin and fine polishing, collarless porcelain fused to metal restoration, and all ceramic restoration. In this case report, collarless porcelain fused to metal restoration was used to treat cervical discoloration from old restorations.

In the last decade, the replacement of old PFM restorations has been a common dental procedure, especially on the anterior regions. Gingiva conditions in most re-treatment cases are not healthy with the old restorations due to ill-fitting margin, improper tooth reduction and poor oral hygiene. Practitioners must carefully evaluate and manage periabutmental gingiva for final restorations. The role of provisional restoration became a major clinical concern at this point. Well-fabricated provisional restorations with precise-fit margin and proper anatomy are critical for achieving good gingival health. Thus, the key of success in replacing old PFM crown depends on the proper tissue management by precise provisional restorations.

The esthetic properties of zirconia receive increasing attention as its demand and application escalates. Thus, it is crucial to investigate how zirconia is esthetically different from other dental ceramics. In this study, we evaluated the translucency of zirconia and suggest a method to increase its translucency. We examined the shade of zirconia and offer its distinguishing features. Finally, we analyzed monolithic zirconia restorations to propose esthetic considerations in clinics.

This clinical report shows the importance of selecting appropriate materials in fabricating laminate veneer restorations. Such cases should be carefully selected to ensure bonding durability, providing consistently reliable prognosis.

A technique is presented through clinical cases for restoring anterior teeth to enhance dental esthetics using bonded partial ceramic restorations (BPCRs) without or with minimum reduction of tooth structures. These restorations offer the advantages of the superior properties of ceramic materials and the conservative nature of a direct composite restoration at the same time.

Increased demand for esthetic restorations has promoted a growing interest in tooth-colored restorations even in the posterior regions. Preparation for specific types of indirect inlay and onlays may vary because of differences in fabrication steps for each commercial system and variations in the physical properties of the restorative materials. Preparations for indirect inlay/onlay basically are meant to provide adequate thickness for restorative material and at the same time a passive insertion pattern with rounded internal angles and well defined margins after deciding what type of restoration is indicated.(omitted)

With the increase of esthetic demands, most patients want to have restorations which are not only functional but also esthetic. For the esthetic restoration, many ceramic systems have been introduced and applied in dentistry. Among those ceramic restorations, IPS e.max system composed of lithium disilicate glass ceramic is one of the most commonly used systems because it has strength and esthetic characteristics. IPS e.max system is divided into IPS e.max Press and IPS e.max CAD according to the manufacturing methods. IPS e.max Press is fabricated through heat-pressed technique with ceramic ingot, which is very simple. The restorations which are made using IPS e.max system can apply to 3 units restoration for the anterior teeth and premolar, and single posterior tooth restoration. Cementation is one of the most important clinic procedure for the longevity of the restorations. All ceramics are bonded by resin cements, it is classified into three groups including adhesive, self-adhesive, and conventional. Variolink N, which is an adhesive resin cement and manufactured by same company with IPS e.max, is recommended for the bonding of IPS e.max restoration. Conventional and self-adhesive resin cement is also available. The aim of this review article is to provide the understanding of material properties, production procedure and clinical application of IPS e.max system.

Esthetic restoration techniques can be categorized into "Direct techniques" consist only of intraoral procedures and "Indirect techniques" include intraoral as well as extraoral laboratory steps. Those made extraorally exhibit generally enhanced esthetic potential and anatomy and better hardness and wear resistance, indirect esthetic restorations numerously applied in contemporary dentistry. Indirect restorative materials can be divided into two categories; composite resin-based materials and ceramic-based materials. These materials shows various were resistance, modulus of elasticity, repair postenital, chemical stability, and different laboratory procedures. In this session, benefit of indirect techinques, case selection of this kind of restorations, and material characteristics and fabrication produre of those materials will ber reviewed; Targis, Sculpture, Belleglass, and Post-curing of restorative composite resins in resin-based materials; Dicor, Empress, Cerec, Celay, and conventional firing porcelain in ceramic based materials.
