  • This paper deals with the analysis of characteristics of position and speed estimator of an adaptive sensorless control algorithm for PMSM drives. The analysis shows that the back emf constant variation results in the position estimation error, but does not the speed estimation error. The simulation and experimental results are shown to verify the analysis result and the usefulness of the back emf constant estimator.

  • We propose an estimator design method of Stewart platform, which gives the 6DOF, positions and velcities of Stewart platform from the measured cylinder length. The solution of forward kinematics is not solved yet as a useful realtime application tool because of the complexity of the equation with multiple solutions. Hence we suggest an nonlinear estimator for the forward kinematics solution using Luenberger observer with nonlinear error correction term. But the way of residual gain selection of the estimator is not clear, so we suggest an algebraic Riccati equation for gain matrix using Lyapunov method. This algorithm gives the sufficient condition of the stability of error dynamics and can be extended to general nonlinear system.

  • Conventional adaptive speed estimators cannot avoid the influence of the non-linear inductance variation under the saturation conditions. Without speed sensors, it is difficult to identify the inductance variation using a reactive power mode because the model contains a term of the rotor speed. In this paper, we propose a novel speed estimator having hybrid architecture in order to estimate both the rotor speed and the inductance variation simultaneously when the motor flux is saturated. Proposed estimator consists of the error between the flux obtained from the stator voltage equation and the flux estimated from the rotor flux observer. Introducing a new correction term into the estimator increases the estimation ability of the conventional speed estimator even though the motor flux is saturated. The convergence of the speed estimation error is examined by simulation Furthermore, the experimental results show the validity of the proposed method.

  • In this paper, we propose a position-speed control of servo system with a state estimator. And also we utilized two mass modelling in order to deals with real system accurately. The overall control system consists of two parts: the position-speed controller and state estimator. The Kalman filter applied as state - feedback controller is an optimal state estimator applied to a dynamic system that involves random perturbations and gives a linear, unbiased and minimun error variance recursive algorithm to estimate the unknown state optimally. Therefore we consider the error problem about the servo system modelling, the measurement noise at low-speed ranges a stochastic system, and implement a optimal state observer. Performance of the proposed state estimator are demonstrated by computer simulations.

  • We classify rotation sampling designs into two classes. The first class replaces sample units within the same rotation group while the second class replaces sample units between different rotation groups. The first class is specified by the three-way balanced design which is a multi-level version of previous balanced designs. We introduce an extended generalized composite estimator (EGCE) and derive its variance and mean squared error for each of the two classes of design, cooperating two types of correlations and three types of biases. Unbiased estimators are derived for difference between interview time biases, between recall time biases, and between rotation group biases. Using the variance and mean squared error, since any rotation design belongs to one of the two classes and the EGCE is a most general estimator for rotation design, we evaluate the efficiency of EGCE to simple weighted estimator and the effects of levels, design gaps, and rotation patterns on variance and mean squared error.

  • Frequency offset in an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system is known to cause the inter-channel interference (ICI), amplitude and phase distortion of a received signal, resulting in a severe performance degradation of the total system. In this paper, we propose an improved pilot-based masimum likelihood frequency offset estimation technique, which uses the predefined sync-subchannels, and derive the error performance of the proposed frequency offset estimator analytically. The proposed technique improves the performance of the frequency offset estimator by adding up the frequency offset caused by coherent phase changes and averaging out the effect caused by random phase error. It is confirmed by computer simulations that the upper bound of error variance for the proposed frequency offset estimator analytically derived in this paper is correct, and that the proposed estimator has better performance than the previous ones in terms of error variance, tracking range, and time-varying characteristics of a channel.

  • We propose a novel phase-based method for single-channel speech enhancement to extract and enhance the desired signals in noisy environments by utilizing the phase information. In the method, a phase-dependent a priori signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is estimated in the log-mel spectral domain to utilize both the magnitude and phase information of input speech signals. The phase-dependent estimator is incorporated into the conventional magnitude-based decision-directed approach that recursively computes the a priori SNR from noisy speech. Additionally, we reduce the performance degradation owing to the one-frame delay of the estimated phase-dependent a priori SNR by using a minimum mean square error (MMSE)-based and maximum a posteriori (MAP)-based estimator. In our speech enhancement experiments, the proposed phase-dependent a priori SNR estimator is shown to improve the output SNR by 2.6 dB for both the MMSE-based and MAP-based estimator cases as compared to a conventional magnitude-based estimator.

  • Traditional Pearson chi-squared test is not appropriate for the data collected by the complex sample design. When one uses the traditional Pearson chi-squared test to the complex sample categorical data, it may give wrong test results, and the error may occur not only due to the biased variance estimators but also due to the biased point estimators of cell proportions. In this study, the design based consistent Wald test statistics was derived for k-population homogeneity test, and the traditional Pearson chi-squared test statistics was partitioned into three parts according to the causes of error; the error due to the bias of variance estimator, the error due to the bias of cell proportion estimator, and the unseparated error due to the both bias of variance estimator and bias of cell proportion estimator. An analysis was conducted for empirical results of the relative size of each error component to the Pearson chi-squared test statistics. The second year data from the fourth Korean national health and nutrition examination survey (KNHANES, IV-2) was used for the analysis. The empirical results show that the relative size of error from the bias of variance estimator was relatively larger than the size of error from the bias of cell proportion estimator, but its degrees were different variable by variable.

  • In this paper we propose a local smoothing of the Nelson type estimator for the survival function based on an approximation by the Weibull distribution function. It appears that Mean Square Error and Bias of the smoothed estimator of the Nelson type survival function estimator is significantly smaller then that of the smoothed estimator of the Kaplan-Meier survival function estimator.
