  • This paper is concerned with designing $\bar{X}$-control charts when an estimate error may be Inevitable. Estimate error offen can not be avoided in estimating or measuring the parameter values of the cost model for the control charts. The bounded interval is a common practice to compensate for inherent estimating error. We introduce the 'propagation of error technique to deal with the economic design of the $\bar{X}$-control charts with imprecise information on the cost model parameters. A numerical example is presented to show· its ability in the economic design of $\bar{X}$-control charts.

  • The stability analysis of rock slope can be predicted using a suitable field data but it cannot be predicted unless suitable field data was taken. In this study, artificial neural networks theory is applied to predict plane failure that has a few data. It is well known that human brain has the advantage of handling disperse and parallel distributed data efficiently. On the basis of this fact, artificial neural networks theory was developed and has been applied to various fields of science successfully In this study, error back-propagation algorithm that is one of the teaching techniques of artificial neural networks is applied to predict plane failure. In order to verify the applicability of this model, a total of 30 field data results are used. These data are used for training the artificial neural network model and compared between the predicted and the measured. The simulation results show the potentiality of utilizing the neural networks for effective safety factor prediction of plane failure. In conclusion, the well-trained artificial neural network model could be applied to predict the plane failure stability of rock slope.

  • One of the major paradigms for supervised learning in neural network community is back-propagation learning. The standard implementations of back-propagation learning are optimal under the assumptions of identical and independent Gaussian noise. In this paper, for regression function estimation, we introduce $\varepsilon-insensitive$ back-propagation learning algorithm, which corresponds to minimizing the least absolute error. We compare this algorithm with support vector machine(SVM), which is another $\varepsilon-insensitive$ supervised learning algorithm and has been very successful in pattern recognition and function estimation problems. For comparison, we consider a more realistic model would allow the noise variance itself to depend on the input variables.

  • "Hahoe Village" in Andong region is an UNESCO World Heritage Site. It should be protected against various disasters such as fire, flooding, earthquake, etc. Among these disasters, flooding has drastic impact on the lives and properties in a wide area. Since "Hahoe Village" is adjacent to Nakdong River, it is important to monitor the water level near the village. In this paper, we developed a hydrological modelling using multi-layer perceptron (MLP) to predict the water level of Nakdong River near "Hahoe Village". To develop the prediction model, error back-propagation (EBP) algorithm was used to train the MLP with water level data near the village and rainfall data at the upper reaches of the village. After training with data in 2012 and 2013, we verified the prediction performance of MLP with untrained data in 2014.

  • Radio signal tracking has been developed especially in military as well as in other industries. It is necessary that an adaptive system trace the signal varying its PRI and frequency. In this paper we proposed a system to adapt various PRI and frequency using a neural network model named Error Back Propagation. Fist we prepared learning data by separating signal into time intervals and did some experiments with the teaming data. We found that the system had good effectiveness in tracing varying PRI and frequency signals.

  • A new approach for the decision feedback equalizer(DFE) based on the back-propagation neural networks is described. We propose the method of optimal structure for back-propagation neural networks model. In order to construct an the optimal structure, we first prescribe the bounds of learning procedure, and the, we employ the method of incrementing the number of input neuron by utilizing the derivative of the error with respect to an hidden neuron weights. The structure is applied to the problem of adaptive equalization in the presence of inter symbol interference(ISI), additive white Gaussian noise. From the simulation results, it is observed that the performance of the propose neural networks based decision feedback equalizer outperforms the other two in terms of bit-error rate(BER) and attainable MSE level over a signal ratio and channel nonlinearities.

  • In this paper, the numerical wave propagation properties of the finite difference-time domain(FD-TD) method is investigated as a discrete model describing electromagnetic(EM) wave propagation phenomena. The leap-frog approximation of Maxwell's curl equations in time-space simulates EM wave propagation in terms of the numerical characteristic and the domain of dependence. A geometrical interpretation of the FD-TD numerical procedure is presented. The numerical dispersion error due to the leap-frog approximation and its dependence on the stability factor are illustrated. The FD-TD method using the leap-frog approximation is inherently a descriptive model. Thus, not only any physical picture about EM wave propagation phenomena can be drawn through this model, but also physical or engineering parameters in the frequency domain can be extracted from descriptive results. E-plane filter characteristics in the WR-28 rectangular waveguide and reflection property of an inductive iris in the WR-90 rectangluar waveguide extracted from simulation of the FD-TD model is included.

  • In this paper, we propose a dynamic localization method using a rotating sonar and a map. The proposed method is implemented by using extended Kalman filter. The state equation is based on the encoder propagation model and the encoder error model, and the measurement equation is a map-based measurement equation using a rotating sonar sensor. By utilizing sonar beam characteristics, map-based measurements are updated while AMR is moving continuously. By modeling and estimating systematic errors of a differential encoder, the position is successfully estimated even the interval of the map-based measurement. Monte-Carlo simulation shows that the proposed global position estimator has the performance of a few millimeter order in position error and of a few tenth degrees in heading error and of compensating systematic errors of the differential encoder well.

  • This paper is proposed hybrid artificial intelligent(HAI) controller for speed control of surface permanent magnet synchronous motor(SPMSM) drive. The design of this algorithm based on HAI controller that is implemented using fuzzy control and neural network. This controller uses fuzzy rule as training patterns of a neural network. Also, this controller uses the back-propagation method to adjust the weights between the neurons of neural network in order to minimize the error between the command output and actual output. A model reference adaptive scheme is proposed in which the adaptation mechanism is executed by fuzzy logic based on the error and change of error measured between the motor speed and output of a reference model. The control performance of the HAI controller is evaluated by analysis for various operating conditions. The results of analysis prove that the proposed control system has strong high performance and robustness to parameter variation, and steady-state accuracy and transient response.
