In simulation input modeling, it is important to identify a probability distribution to represent the input process of interest. In this paper, an appropriate sample size is determined for parameter estimation associated with some typical probability distributions frequently encountered in simulation input modeling. For this purpose, a statistical measure is proposed to evaluate the effect of sample size on the precision as well as the accuracy related to the parameter estimation, square rooted mean square error to parameter ratio. Based on this evaluation measure, this sample size effect can be not only analyzed dimensionlessly against parameter's unit but also scaled regardless of parameter's magnitude. In the Monte Carlo simulation experiments, three continuous and one discrete probability distributions are investigated such as ; 1) exponential ; 2) gamma ; 3) normal ; and 4) poisson. The parameter's magnitudes tested are designed in order to represent distinct skewness respectively. Results show that ; 1) the evaluation measure drastically improves until the sample size approaches around 200 ; 2) up to the sample size about 400, the improvement continues but becomes ineffective ; and 3) plots of the evaluation measure have a similar plateau pattern beyond the sample size of 400. A case study with real datasets presents for verifying the experimental results.
The demand for new processing technology that can improve productivity is increasing in industries that require large-scale and various products. In response to this demand, a robot machining system with flexibility is required. Because of the low rigidity of the robot, the robot machining system has a large error during machining and is vulnerable to vibration generated during machining. Vibration generated during machining deteriorates machining quality and reduces the durability of the machine. To solve this problem, a stage for fixing the spindle during machining is required. In order to compensate for the robot's low rigidity, a system combining a piezoelectric actuator for generating a large force and a guide mechanism to actuate with a desired direction is required. Since the rigidity of flexible hinges varies depending on the structure, it is important to optimal design the flexible hinge and high-rigidity system. The purpose of this research is to make analytic model and optimize a flexible hinge and to design a high rigidity stage. In this research, to design a flexible hinge stage, a concept design of system for high rigidity and flexure hinge modeling is carried out. Based on analytic modeling, the optimal design for the purpose of high rigidity is finished and the optimal design results is used to check the error between the modeling and actual simulation results.
The construction of a protective embankment is a suitable strategy to stop and control high-energy rock blocks' impacts during the rockfall phenomenon. In this paper, based on the discrete element numerical method, by modeling an existing embankment reinforced with geogrid, its stability status under the impact of a rock block with two types of low and high kinetic energy, namely 2402 and 4180 kJ, respectively, has been investigated. The modeling results show that the use of geogrid has caused the displacement in the front and back of the embankment to decrease by more than 30%. In this case, the reinforced embankment has stopped the rock block earlier. The displacements obtained from the DEM modeling are compared with the displacements measured from an actual practical experiment to evaluate the results' validity. Comparison between the results shows that the displacement values are close together, while the maximum percentage error in previous studies by an analytical method and the finite element method was 76.4% and 36.6%, respectively. Therefore, the obtained results indicate the discrete numerical method's high ability compared to other numerical and analytical methods to simulate and design the geogrid-reinforced soil embankment under natural disasters such as rockfall with a minor error.
In this paper, we conduct sensitivity analysis of parameters used for inverse modeling in order to estimate the PM10 emissions from the 16 areas in East Asia accurately. Parameters used in sensitivity analysis are R, the observational error covariance matrix, and B, a priori (background) error covariance matrix. In previous studies, it was used with the predetermined parameter empirically. Such a method, however, has difficulties in estimating an accurate emissions. Therefore, an automatically determining method for the most suitable value of R and B with an error measurement criteria and posteriori emissions accuracy is required. We determined the parameters through a sensitivity analysis, and improved the accuracy of posteriori emissions estimation. Inverse modeling methods used in the emissions estimation are pseudo inverse, NNLS (Nonnegative Least Square), and BA(Bayesian Approach). Pseudo inverse has a small error, but has negative values of emissions. In order to resolve the problem, NNLS is used. It has a unrealistic emissions, too. The problems are resolved with BA(Bayesian Approach). We showed the effectiveness and the accuracy of three methods through case studies.

In this paper the modeling of the RLP layer in CDMA2000 is presented, which uses the NAK based ARQ scheme for Random Error Channels. The RLP performs a partial link recovery through limited number of RLP frame transmission in case of frame error. In case when the RLP fails due to excessive frame error, the control is passed on to the higher (TCP) layer. The TCP layer provides the complete end-to-end recovery. Thus the reliable performance at the TCP/RLP is essential to maintain the required Quality of Service in the DS-CDMA wireless links. The modeling is done for the performance analysis of the system in terms of the throughput and the mean extra delays, which are calculated analytically and are compared with the results generated by the simulations. This paper studies the effect of the random errors over different types of RLP frame formats and also the performance of the NAK based ARQ mechanism used under these conditions. The simulation provides with the over all characteristics of the throughput and the mean extra delay in terms of realistic environment parameters like Eb/No and probability of packet error (PE), based on the channel conditions.

Two-phase neuro-system identification method is presented. The 1$^{st}$-phase identification uses conventional neural network mapping for modeling an input-output system. The 2$^{nd}$ -phase modeling is also performed sequentially using the 1$^{st}$-phase modeling errors. In the 2$^{nd}$ a phase modeling, newly generated input signals, which are obtained by summing the 1st-phase modeling error and artificially generated uniform series, are utilized as system's I-O mapping elements. The 1$^{st}$-phase identification is interpreted as a “Real Model” system identification because it uses system's real data(i.e., observations and control inputs) while the 2$^{nd}$ -phase identification as a “Artificial Model” identification because of using artificial data. Experimental results are given to verify that the two-phase neuro-system identification could reduce the overall modeling errors.rrors.

In this paper, an extended volumetric error model considering backlash in a three-axis machine tool was proposed and utilized for calculating the volumetric error of the machine tool at any position in three-dimensional workspace. Backlashes are interrelated; i.e. the angular backlash affects the straightness errors which then affect talc calculated squareness errors. Therefore, a new concept was introduced to define the backlash of squareness errors to incorporate the backlash of squareness error into the volumetric error, and the characteristics of the backlash of squareness error were investigated. The effects of backlash errors were assessed, by experiments. for 21 geometric errors of a machine tool. The backlash error was shown to be one of the systematic errors of a machine tool. And a generalized volumetric error model formulator for three-axis machine tools was developed, which allowed us to formulate machine tool synthesis error models far all possible machine tool configurations only with machine tool topology information. Based on these volumetric error model and model formulator, a computer-aided volumetric error analysis system was developed for a three-axis machine tool in this paper. Then the volumetric error at an arbitrary position can be obtained, and displayed in a three-dimensional graphic form.
Kuo et al proposed an on-line method for an adaptive prediction error filter for improving secondary path modeling performance in the modeling method of the secondary path. This method have some disadvantages, namely having to use additive noise with the result that noise control performance is not good since it is focused on the estimated performance of the secondary path. In this paper, we proposes a modified Kuo model using gain control parameter and delay. It uses a reference signal for additive noise to improve the problems in the existing Kuo model.

This paper presents an on-line modeling method approach for the machine condition. the machine condition is continuously monitored with a sensor such as, a vibration, a current, an acoustic emission (AE) sensor. In this study, neural network modeling by radial basis function is designed for analysis a prediction error. An on-line learning algorithm is designed using the RLS(recursive least square) estimation and the existing clustering method of Kohonen neural network. Experimental results show that the proposed RBNN modeling is suitable for predicting simulated data.

The paper is devoted to problem of spline modeling of multidimensional signals. A new method of nodes location for curves and surfaces computer construction in multidimensional spaces by means of B-splines is presented. The criteria are which links a square-mean error caused by high frequency spline distortions and approximation intervals is determined and necessary theorem is proved. In this method use a theory of entire multidimensional spectra and may be extended for the spaces of three, four and more variables.
