  • A least-squares identification method is studied that estimates a finite number of coefficients in the series expansion of a transfer function, where the expansion is in terms of recently introduced generalized basis functions, We will expand and generalize the orthogonal functions as basis functions for dynamical system representations. To this end, use is made of balanced realizations as inner transfer functions. The orthogonal functions can be considered as generalizations of, for example, the pulse functions, Laguerre functions, and Kautz functions, and give rise to an alternative series expansion of rational transfer functions. We show that the Laplace transform of the expansion for some sets$\Psi_{\kappa}(Z)$ is equivalent to a series expansion . Techniques based on this result are presented for obtaining the coefficients $c_{n}$ as those of a series. One of their important properties is that, if chosen properly, they can substantially increase the speed of convergence of the series expansion. This leads to accurate approximate models with only a few coefficients to be estimated. The set of Kautz functions is discussed in detail and, using the power-series equivalence, the truncation error is obtained.

  • In this paper, a real time diagnostic algorithm fur estimating the impact location by loose parts is proposed. It is composed of two modules such as the alarm discrimination module (ADM) and the impact-location estimation module(IEM). ADM decides whether the detected signal that triggers the alarm is the impact signal by loose parts or the noise signal. When the decision from ADM is concluded as the impact signal, the beginning time of burst-type signal, which the impact signal has usually such a form in time domain, provides the necessary data fur IEM. IEM by use of the arrival time method estimates the impact location of loose parts. The overall results of the estimated impact location are displayed on a computer monitor by the graphical mode and numerical data composed of the impact point, and thereby a plant operator can recognize easily the status of the impact event. This algorithm can perform the diagnosis process automatically and hence the operator's burden and the possible operator's error due to lack of expert knowledge of impact signals can be reduced remarkably. In order to validate the application of this method, the test experiment with a mock-up (flat board and reactor) system is performed. The experimental results show the efficiency of this algorithm even under high level noise and potential application to Loose Part Monitoring System (LPMS) for improving diagnosis capability in nuclear power plants.

  • In this paper, we propose a new method that sequentially estimates TDOA(Time Delay Of Arrival) and FDOA(Frequency Delay Of Arrival) for extracting the information about the bearing and relative velocity of a target in passive radar or sonar arrays. The objective is to efficiently estimate the TDOA and FDOA between two sensor signal measurements, corrupted by correlated Gaussian noise sources in an unknown way. The proposed method utilizes the one dimensional slice function of the third order cumulants between the two sensor measurements, by which the effect of correlated Gaussian measurement noises can be significantly suppressed for the estimation of TDOA. Because the proposed sequential algoritjhm uses the one dimensional complex ambiguity function based on the TDOA estimate from the first step, the amount of computations needed for accurate estimationof FDOA can be dramatically reduced, especially for the cases where high frequency resolution is required. It is demonstrated that the proposed algorithm outperforms existing TDOA/FDOA estimation algorithms based on the ML(maximum likelihood) criterionandthe complex ambiguity function of the third order cumulant as well, in the MSE(mean squared error) sense and computational burden. Various numerical resutls on the detection probability, MSE and the floatingpoint computational burden are presented via Monte-Carlo simulations for different types of noises, different lengths of data, and different signal-to-noise ratios.

  • This various factors that affect beef consumption behavior between different types of beef such as Hanwoo, Australian, American, and domestic Yukwoo. Previous studies usually used almost ideal demand system (AIDS) model to show the degree of substitution between meats especially domestic and foreign beef. This a real expenditure each individual and to explain what factors affect consumers especially focusing on various beef. Hence, previous studies used shares and prices as key variableshowever, this study use various socio-demographic variables, consumption tendency, satisfaction and importance for beef consumption, purchasing usage and part, etc. This study a seemingly unrelated regression (SUR) model to enhance efficiency of estimates because error terms of four beef consumption equations are correlated. For, an on-line survey was performed Aug. 5 - 14, and we obtained 979 effective samples. The results show that high income group (more than 700 mil. won per month) purchases more beef than other groups. The origin of orders is Hanwoo, Yukwoo, Australian beef, and American beef. A family who member purchases more Yukwoo than other groups. foreign affects beef consumption regardless of its origin. Individuals who think origin and taste prefer Hanwoo. However, individuals who think price prefer Australian beef.

  • The finite element method(FEM) is proven to be an effective approximate method of structural analysis if proper element types and meshes are chosen, and recently, the method is often applied to solve complex dynamic and nonlinear problems. A properly chosen element type and mesh yields reliable results for dynamic finite element structural analysis. However, dynamic behavior of a structure may include unpredictably large strains in some parts of the structure, and using the initial mesh throughout the duration of a dynamic analysis may include some elements to go through strains beyond the elements' reliable limits. Thus, the finite element mesh for a dynamic analysis must be dynamically adaptive, and considering the rapid process of analysis in real time, the dynamically adaptive finite element mesh generating schemes must be computationally efficient. In this paper, a computationally efficient dynamically adaptive finite element mesh generation scheme for dynamic analyses of structures is described. The concept of representative strain value is used for error estimates and the refinements of meshes use combinations of the h-method(node movement) and the r-method(element division). The shape coefficient for element mesh is used to correct overly distorted elements. The validity of the scheme is shown through a cantilever beam example under a concentrated load with varying values. The example shows reasonable accuracy and efficient computing time. Furthermore, the study shows the potential for the scheme's effective use in complex structural dynamic problems such as those under seismic or erratic wind loads.

  • Installation of the digital carrier system is increased rapidly in the telecommunication network, and most of systems are operating over a twisted pair conductor. Many systems are accommodated in multipair cable for their economical installation, therefore we must consider tha crosstalk interference between digital systesm. This paper considers the calculation method which determine crosstali interference between signals in multipair. And the transmission margin at a certain error rate is analyzed considering crosstalk power. Finally, this paper estimates the crosstalk noise susceptibility of 2.048Mbps relative to 1.544Mbps PCM system and 1.544Mbps relative to 2.048Mbps PCM system, and then considers the methos which both systems can operate together in a same cable.

  • In this paper, we present a trellis-based blind channel estimation and equalization technique coupling two kinds of adaptive Viterbi algorithms. First, the initial blind channel estimation is accomplished by incorporating the list parallel Viterbi algorithm with the least mean square (LMS) updating approach. In this operation, multiple trellis mappings are preserved simultaneously and ranked in terms of path metrics. Equivalently, multiple channel estimates are maintained and updated once a single symbol is received. Second, the best channel estimate from the above operation will be adopted to set up the whole trellis. The conventional adaptive Viterbi algorithm is then applied to detect the signal and further update the channel estimate alternately. A small delay is introduced for the symbol detection and the decision feedback to smooth the noise impact. An automatic switch between the above two operations is also proposed by exploiting the evolution of path metrics and the linear constraint inherent in the trellis mapping. Simulation has shown an overall excellent performance of the proposed scheme in terms of mean square error (MSE) for channel estimation, robustness to the initial channel guess, computational complexity, and channel equalization.

  • This paper proposes a new hybrid genetic algorithm for auto-tuning fuzzy controllers improving the performance. In general, fuzzy controllers use pre-determined moderate membership functions, fuzzy rules, and scaling factors, by trial and error. The presented algorithm estimates automatically the optimal values of membership functions, fuzzy rules, and scaling factors for fuzzy controllers, using a hybrid genetic algorithm. The object of the proposed algorithm is to promote search efficiency by the hybrid optimization technique. The proposed hybrid genetic algorithm is based on both the standard genetic algorithm and a modified gradient method. If a maximum point is not be changed around an optimal value at the end of performance during given generation, the hybrid genetic algorithm searches for an optimal value using the the initial value which has maximum point by converting the genetic algorithms into the MGM(Modified Gradient Method) algorithms that reduced the number of variables. Using this algorithm is not only that the computing time is faster than genetic algorithm as reducing the number of variables, but also that can overcome the disadvantage of genetic algoritms. Simulation results verify the validity of the presented method.

  • This paper describes a navigation system for an autonomous vehicle in outdoor environments. The vehicle uses vision system to detect coordinates and DGPS information to determine the vehicles initial position and orientation. The vision system detects coordinates in the environment by referring to an environment model. As the vehicle moves, it estimates its position by conventional DGPS data, and matches up the coordinates with the environment model in order to reduce the error in the vehicles position estimate. The vehicles initial position and orientation are calculated from the coordinate values of the first and second locations, which are acquired by DGPS. Subsequent orientations and positions are derived. Experimental results in real environments have showed the effectiveness of our proposed navigation methods and real-time methods.
