For analyzing shallow-water flows over the uneven bottom, the HLLL scheme and the divergence form for bed slope source term (DFB) technique, respectively were applied to the flux gradient and the bottom gradient source terms in a finite-volume model for the shallow water equations. And also the model incorporated the volume/free-surface relationship (VFR) to consider the partially submerged cells (PSC). It was identified that a simpler version of the weighted surface-depth gradient method in the MUSCL was equivalent to the original one in the accuracy for 1D steady flows. It was verified that the flux gradient term and the bottom gradient source term were well-balanced exactly by the VFR for the 1D PSC. The VFR for the triangular PSC settled the problem which the governing equations were not well-balanced by the DFB technique for the 2D PSC. There were good agreements in simulations and experiments for 2D dam-break flows over a triangular sill and a round bump. In addition, the partial dam-break flow was successfully simulated for flooding of roughnesses in an irregular bottom as well as a sloping one. Therefore, this model is expected to be applied to the real river with uneven topography.
The systematic and effective design method of a Class-D current-source resonant inverter for use in an induction cooker with zero-ripple line current is presented. The design procedure is based on the principle of the Class-D current-source resonant inverter with a simplified load network model that is a parallel equivalent circuit. An induction load characterization is obtained from a large-signal excitation test-bench based on parallel load network, which is the key to an accurate design for the induction cooker system. Accordingly, the proposed scheme provides a systematic, precise, and feasible solution than the existing design method based on series-parallel load network under low-signal excitation. Moreover, a zero-ripple condition of utility-line input current is naturally preserved without any extra circuit or control. Meanwhile, a differential-mode input electromagnetic interference (EMI) filter can be eliminated, high power quality in utility-line can be obtained, and a standard-recovery diode of bridge-rectifier can be employed. The step-by-step design procedure explained with design example. The devices stress and power loss analysis of induction cooker with a parallel load network under large-signal excitation are described. A 2,500-W laboratory prototype was developed for $220-V_{rms}/50-Hz$ utility-line to verify the theoretical analysis. An efficiency of the prototype is 96% at full load.
This paper presents a newly developed resonance self-shielding method based on Tone's method in $APOLLO3^{(R)}$ for fast and thermal reactor calculations. The new method is based on simplified models, the narrow resonance approximation for the slowing down source and Tone's approximation for group collision probability matrix. It utilizes mathematical probability tables as quadrature formulas in calculating effective cross-sections. Numerical results for the ZPPR drawer calculations in 1,968 groups show that, in the case of the double-column fuel drawer, Tone's method gives equivalent precision to the subgroup method while markedly reducing the total number of collision probability matrix calculations and hence the central processing unit time. In the case of a single-column fuel drawer with the presence of a uranium metal material, Tone's method obtains less precise results than those of the subgroup method due to less precise heterogeneous-homogeneous equivalence. The same options are also applied to PWR UOX, MOX, and Gd cells using the SHEM 361-group library, with the objective of analyzing whether this energy mesh might be suitable for the application of this methodology to thermal systems. The numerical results show that comparable precision is reached with both Tone's and the subgroup methods, with the satisfactory representation of intrapellet spatial effects.

In this paper, we formed a transmitter and receiver by using two identical Chua's circuits and then formed wireless transmission line from the channel which was between those two circuits. We proposed a secure communication method in which the desired information signal was synthesized with the chaos signal created in a Chua's circuit and sent to the transmitter through channel. Then the signal was demodulated receiver of Chua's circuit. The method we used to accomplish the sun communication was synthesizing the desired information with the chaos circuit by parallel connection in a wireless transmission line. After transmitting the synthesized signal to the wireless transmission line, we confirmed the actuality of the secure communication by separating the information signal and the chaos signal in the receiver. In order to confirm the security, we compared the wiretapped signal and the recovery signal under the assumption that the wiretapping had taken place. In order to separate the two signals, we transformed the information signal to a current source in the transmitter and detected the current in the receiver.

This paper proposes a method to stabilize the output voltage of the secondary side of an Inductive Power Transfer (IPT) system through tuning/detuning via a serial tuned DC Voltage-controlled Variable Capacitor (DVVC). The equivalent capacitance of the DVVC changes with the conduction period of a diode in the DVVC controlled by DC voltage. The output voltage of an IPT system can be made constant when this DVVC is used as a variable resonant capacitor combined with a PI controller generating DC control voltage according to the fluctuations of the output voltage. Since a passive diode instead of an active switch is used in the DVVC, there are no active switch driving problems such as a separate voltage source or gate drivers, which makes the DVVC especially advantageous when used at the secondary side of an IPT system. Moreover, since the equivalent capacitance of the DVVC can be controlled smoothly with a DC voltage and the passive diode generates less EMI than active switches, the DVVC has the potential to be used at much higher frequencies than traditional switch mode capacitors.

With an increase in the usage of LNG, there is a heightened interest about its safety aspects regarding the explosion of LNG carrier tank. The need for a cryogenic explosion-proof camera has increased. The camera has to work in cryogenic environment (below $-160^{\circ}C$) in LNG carrier. This study conducted design and heat transfer analysis of cryogenic camera to secure working time in limitation of heat source. The design with gap width of double pane windows was conducted based on simple vertical cavity model to insulate from cryogenic environment. The optimal gap width was 12.5 mm. For effective analysis considering convection within the camera, equivalent thermal conductivity method was adopted with ABAQUS. The working time of the camera predicted was over 10 h at warm-start condition. In cold-start condition, it required about 5 h of pre-warming time to work. The results of analysis were compared with the ones of the actual cryogenic test.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the life cycle cost of primary cooling system by systematic support cost. Life Cycle Cost(LCC) is the process of making an economic assessment of an item, area, system, or facility by considering all significant costs of ownership over an economic life, expressed in terms of equivalent costs. The essence of life cycle costing is the analysis of equivalent costs of various alternative proposals. In order to select economical primary cooling system in early heat source plan stages, the research investigates cost items and cost characteristics during project process phases such as planning/design, construction, maintenance /management, and demolition/sell phases. The study also analyze the life cycle cost by capacity leading to suggest the most economical primary cooling system by systematic support cost.

An energy pile encases heat exchange pipes to exchange thermal energy with the surrounding ground formation by circulating working fluid through the pipes. An energy pile has many advantages in terms of economic feasibility and constructability over conventional Ground Heat Exchangers (GHEXs). In this paper, a coil-type PHC energy pile was constructed in a test bed and its thermal performance was experimentally and numerically evaluated to make a preliminary design. An in-situ thermal response test (TRT) was performed on the coil-type PHC energy pile and its results were compared with the solid cylinder source model presented by Man et al. (2010). In addition, a CFD numerical analysis using FLUNET was carried out to back-analyze the thermal conductivity of the ground formation from the Ttype PHC energy RT result. To study effects of a coil pitch of the coil-type heat exchange pipe, a thermal interference between the heat exchange pipes in PHC energy piles was parametrically studied by performing the CFD numerical analysis, then the effect of the coil pitch on thermal performance and efficiency of heat exchange were evaluated. Finally, an equivalent heat exchange efficiency factor for the coil-type PHC energy pile in comparison with a common multiple U-type PHC energy pile was obtained to facilitate a preliminary design method for the coil-type PHC energy pile by adopting the PILESIM2 program.
This study provides the electrical model of combustible catalytic gas sensor. Physical characteristics such as thermal behavior, resistance change were included in this model. The finite element method analysis for sensor device structure showed that the thermal behavior of sensor is expressed in a simple electrical equivalent circuit that consists of a resistor, a capacitor and a current source. This thermal equivalent circuit interfaces with real electrical circuit using two parts. One is 'power to heat' converter. The other is temperature dependent variable resistor. These parts realized with the analog behavior devices of the SPICE library. The gas response tendency was represented from the mass transferring limitation theory and the combustion theory. In this model, Gas concentration that is expressed in voltage at the model, is converted to heat and is flowed to the thermal equivalent circuit. This model is tested in several circuit simulations. The resistance change of device, the delay time due to thermal capacity, the gas responses output voltage that are calculated from SPICE simulations correspond well to real results from measuring in electrical circuits. Also good simulation result can be produced in the more complicated circuit that includes amplifier, bios circiut, buffer part.
Evaluating the temporal and spatial changes in the ecosystem service value (ESV) of the Sanjiangyuan Nature Reserve is important for understanding the impact of human activities on natural ecosystem and guiding ecosystem restoration and environmental pollution control. In this study, remotely sensed land-cover data and the equivalent factor method were used to analyze the spatiotemporal evolution characteristics of the ESV in Sanjiangyuan Nature Reserve from 1992 to 2015, and regression analysis was employed to determine the factors driving changes in the ESV. The results show that grassland was the main type of ecosystem in the study area, and the transformation of grassland into bare areas was the primary change in land cover. Additionally, the ESV in the study area first decreased and then increased, with an annual growth rate of 0.69%. The ESV mainly increased in the north of the Yellow River's source area, and mainly decreased in the northwest of the Yangtze River's source area. Finally, the gross output value of agriculture, urbanization rate and proportion of secondary industry were found to be the main factors driving the ESV in the study area.
