This study is focused on the characterization of an effective hydraulic conductivity in each hydrogeologic unit assumed as an equivalent continuum medium in the granitic area. Four boreholes of 3" diameter were installed and a Multi-packer system was facilitated in the selected borehole. Various in-situ tests including the fracture logging, constant injection and fall-off tests, slug and pulse tests were carried out. A hydrogeologic unit was defined into the upper and lower zones based on the variation of fracture properties and hydraulic conductivities. The difference of the result obtained by the various hydraulic tests and the effective characterization techniques on rock mass permeability are also discussed. The effective hydraulic conductivity of the upper unit was measured by two times(5.27E-10 m/s~7.57E-10 m/s) that of the lower unit(2.45E-10 m/s~6.81E-10 m/s)through the constant injection and fall-off tests.
This paper presents a pressure drop correlation for evaporation and condensation of alternative refrigerant with oil in micro-fin tubes. The correlation was developed from a data base consisting of oil-free pure and mixed refrigerants in micro-fin tube; Rl25 R134a. R32 R410a(R32/R125 50/50% mass), R22, R407c(R32/R125/R134a, 23/25/52% mass) and R32/R134a(25/75% mass). The micro-fin tube used in this paper had 60 0.2mm high fins with a 18 helix angle. The cross sectional flow area $(A_c)$ was $60.8 mm^2$ giving an equivalent smooth diameter$(D_e)$ of 8.8mm. The hydraulic diameter $(D_h)$ was estimated to the 5.45mm. The new correlation was obtained by replacing the friction factor and the tube-diameter in Bo Pierre correlation by a friction factor derived from pressure drop data for a micro-fin tube and the hydraulic diameter, respectively. This correlation was also used to predict some pressure data with a lubricant after using a mixing viscosity rule of lubricants and refrigerants. As a result, the new correlation was also well predicted to the measured data within a mean deviation of 19.0%.
Activated carbon (AC) with very large surface area has high capacitance per weight. However, such activation methods tend to suffer from low yields, below 50%, and are low in electrode density and capacitance per volume. Carbon NanoFibers (CNFs) had high surface area polarizability, high electrical conductivity and chemical stability, as well as extremely high mechanical strength and modulus, which make them an important material for electrochemical capacitors. The electrochemical properties of immobilized CNF electrodes were studied for use as in electrical double layer capacitor (EDLC) applications. Immobilized CNFs on Ni foam grown by thermal chemical vapor deposition (CVD) were successfully fabricated. CNFs had a uniform diameter range from 50 to 60 nm. Surface area was 56 m$^2$/g. CNF electrodes were compared with AC and multi wall carbon nanotube (MWNT) electrodes. The electrochemical performance of the various electrodes was examined with aqueous electrolyte of 2M KOH. Equivalent series resistance (ESR) of the CNF electrodes was lower than that of AC and MWNT electrodes. The specific capacitance of 47.5 F/g of the CNF electrodes was achieved with discharge current density of 1 mA/cm$^2$.
Purpose: This study was performed to compare the stress distribution pattern of abutment-fixture connection area using 3-dimensional finite element model analysis when 5 different implant systems which have internal connection. Materials and methods: For the analysis, a finite element model of implant was designed to locate at first molar area. Stress distribution was observed when vertical load of 200 N was applied at several points on the occlusal surfaces of the implants, including center, points 1.5 mm, 3.0 mm away from center and oblique load of 200 N was applied $30^{\circ}$ inclined to the implant axis. The finite element model was analyzed by using of 3G. Author (PlassoTech, California, USA). Results: The DAS tech implant (internal step with no taper) showed more favorable stress distribution than other internally connected implants. AS compare to the situations when the loading was applied within the boundary of implants and an oblique loading was applied, it showed higher equivalent stress and equivalent elastic strain when the loading was applied beyond the boundary of implants. Regardless of loading condition, the abutments showed higher equivalent stress and equivalent elastic strain than the fixtures. Conclusion: When the occlusal contact is afforded, the distribution of stress varies depending on the design of connection area and the location of loading. More favorable stress distribution is expected when the contact load was applied within the diameter of fixtures and the DAS tech implant (internal step with no tapering) has more benefits than the other design of internally connected implants.
Internal defects, such as shrinkage during casting, cause stress concentrations and initiate cracking. Therefore, it is important to understand the effects of internal defects on the mechanical properties including the impact behavior. This study evaluates the effects of internal casting defects on the impact performance of A356 Al-alloy castings. The internal shrinkage defects in the casting impact specimen are scanned using an industrial Computed Tomography (CT) scanner, and drop impact tests are performed with varing impact velocities on the A356 casting aluminium specimen ($10mm{\times}10mm$ section area) in order to locate the fracture energy under an impact load. The specimens with defects with a diameter less than 0.35 mm exhibit equivalent fracture impact energies of approximately 32 J and those with a 1.7 mm diameter defect reduced the fracture impact energy by 35%.

To investigate the effects of the side-orifice on the pressure drop for single-phase flow, a series of experiments have been carried out with 16 different downstream test sections with various combinations of side-orifice shapes, different numbers of side-orifices, and different arrangements of the side-orifice using water as a working fluid. From the measurements of the pressure drop and the flow rate, the pressure loss coefficient of the side-orifice(s) has been evaluated. Based on the total number of 529 present data, an empirical correlation for the pressure loss coefficient has been developed in terms of Reynolds number and geometric parameters, such as area ratio, equivalent diameter, leading edge, and average width of side-orifice.

In this study, we carried out the finite element analysis for the screw of centrifuge that is the weakest part of the centrifuge for sewage management. Centrifugal force caused by rotation with velocity of 4000rpm was applied at the screw. Structural analysis was done with respect to the change of the ratio of blade pitch($R_P$), shaft diameter($R_D$) and extended hole($R_E$). When the area of circular hole is equal to that of extended holes, maximum equivalent stresses in the screw with circular and extended circular hole were compared. And then natural frequency analysis was executed for the same model. Three mode shapes were used to explain the vibration characteristics of each screw. Convergence study was accomplished fur more accurate results.
The Giant Magellan Telescope (GMT) is a 24.5m diameter optical/infrared telescope. Its seven 8.4m primary mirrors give it a collecting area equivalent to a 21.4m filled aperture. The ten GMT partners are constructing the telescope at the Las Campanas Observatory in Chile with first light planned for the end of 2018. In this paper, we describe the plans for the first-generation focal plane instrumentation for the telescope. The GMTO Corporation has solicited studies for instruments capable of carrying out the broad range of objectives outlined in the GMT Science Case. Six instruments have been selected for 14 month long conceptual design studies. We describe the features of these instruments and give examples of the major science questions that they can address.

The characteristics of nonpremixed interacting flames are investigated in the parameter of nozzle configuration and nozzle separation distane, s. Three nozzle arrangements - diamond 4 nozzle, linear 5 nozzle and cross 5 nozzle- are used. When s is about 10 nozzle diameter, flames lift from the nozzle at the highest fuel flowrate compared with the other s cases. Normally flames are extinguished at the lifted states. Flowrates when blowout occurs are affected by the nozzle configuration, nozzle seperation distance. Blowout flowrates for the diamond- or cross-shaped nozzle cases are parabolic function of s. For 5 cross nozzle case, flames extinguished at 3.3 times higher flowrate than that of single equivalent area nozzle. Turbulent liftoff heights are not function of flowrates for these cases.
The aim of this study is to develop a general purpose algorithm for analyzing geometrical features of agricultural products and microscopic particles regardless of their numbers, shapes and positions with a computer vision system. Primarily, boundary informations of an image were obtained by Scan Line Coding and Scan & Chain Coding methods and then with these informations, geometrical features such as area, perimeter, lengths, widths, centroid, major and minor axes, equivalent circle diameter, number of individual objects, etc, were analyzed. The algorithms developed in this study was evaluated with test images consisting of a number of randomly generated ellipsoids or a few synthesized diagrams having different features. The result was successful in terms of accuracy.
