  • In this paper, the variable absorption rates and DC dielectric breakdown strength of epoxy composites were measured at boiling absorption condition in order to observe the influences of moisture in out door use. Also, in order to improve withstand voltage properties at moisture absorbtion condition. IPN (interpenetrating polymer network) method which had been already reported, was introduced and the influence was investigated. As a result, it was confirmed that the moisture absorption rate was increased and DC dielectric breakdown strength was degraded with boiling time and filler content increasing. On the other hand, it was confirmed that moisture absorption rate and DC dielectric breakdown strength degrading rate were lowered by the improvement of adhesion strength In IPN specimens.

  • In this study, the DC dielectric breakdown of epoxy composites used for PCB material was experimented and then its data were simulated by Weibull distribution equation. The more hardener increased the stronger breakdown strength at low temperature because of cross-linked density by the virtue of ester radical, and the breakdown strength of specimens with filler was lower than it of non-filler specimens because it is believed that the adding filler forms interface and charge is accumulated in it, therefore the molecular motility is raised, the electric field is concentrated, and the acceleration of electron and the growth of electron avalanche are early accomplished. From the analysis of Weibull distribution, it was confirmed that as the allowed breakdown probability was given by 0.1[%], the applied field value needed to be under 21.5[kV/mm].

  • Interfacial and microfailure properties of carbon fiber/epoxy composites were evaluated using both tensile fragmentation and compressive Broutman tests. A monomeric and two polymeric coupling agents were applied via the electrodeposition (ED) and the dipping applications. A monomeric and a polymeric coupling agent showed significant and comparable improvements in interfacial shear strength (IFSS) compared to the untreated case under both tensile and compressive tests. Typical microfailure modes including cone-shaped fiber break, matrix cracking, and partial interlayer failure were observed under tension, whereas the diagonal slipped failure at both ends of the fractured fiber appeared under compression. Adsorption and shear displacement mechanisms at the interface were described in terms of electrical attraction and primary and secondary bonding forces.

  • In this Paper, the variable dielectric breakdown strengths of epoxy composites were investigated at belling absorption condition in order to observe the influences of moisture in out door use. Also. in order to improve withstand voltage properties at moisture absorbtion condition, IPN(interpenetrating polymer network) method was Introduced and the Influence was investigated. As Adding filler(SiO$_2$) classified by o(phr), 50(phr) and 100[phr] to two kinds of matrix resin, six kinds of specimens were manufactured. As a result, it was confirmed that dielectric breakdown strength wer degraded with boiling time and filer content increasing. But, it was confirmed that dielectric breakdown strength degrading rate were lowered by the Improvement of adhesion strength in IPN specimens.

  • The object of this study is to design the Radar Absorbing Structures (RAS) having sandwich structures in the X-band $(8.2\~12.4GHz)$ frequencies. Glass fabric/epoxy composites containing conductive carbon blacks and carbon fabric/epoxy composites were used for the face sheets. Polyurethane (PU) foams containing multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWNT) were used for the core. Their permittivities in the X-band were measured using the transmission line technique. The reflection loss characteristics for multi-layered sandwich structures were calculated using the theory of transmission and reflection in a multi-layered medium. Three kinds of specimens were fabricated and their reflection losses in the X-band were measured using the free space technique. Experimental results were in good agreements with simulated ones in 10dB absorbing bandwidth.

  • The analytic solution of radial displacements of thin cylindrical pressure vessel with carbon fiber T700/Epoxy orthotropic composites was obtained using equilibrium equations of the orthogonal curvilinear coordinate system. The governing equations with the simplified strain versus displacement relation of 3-dimensional curvilinear coordinate system were derived from the variational principle and the virtual work principle. Some theoretical analyses were presented and compared with the results of hydraulic tests for the pressure vessels with some various thicknesses. The results of the theoretical analysis and the hydraulic test were reasonably matched.

  • 7 type composites (40, 45, 50, 55, 60, 65, and 70 wt.%)were prepared for the environmentally friendly GIS Spacer. Five kinds of samples were prepared for optimization of the filler content ratio (MS: MA = 1: 9, 3: 7, 5: 5, 7: 3, 9: 1) of epoxy / microsilica and microalumina. As a result of evaluation of the partial discharge resistance characteristic, surface erosion is generally slowed down as the fill amount of micro silica is increased. Also, partial discharge resistance characteristics for the development of insulating materials with optimal mixing ratios of heterologous showed a higher partial resistance of discharge and a decrease in erosion, as the filler content ratio of micro silica was larger. In the future, various researches such as electrical, mechanical, and thermal studies will be needed to develop insulating materials that can commercialize power devices in environmentally friendly insulating gas.

  • In this paper, the physical and electrical properties of epoxy composites are investigated at boiling absorption condition to observe the influences of moisture. Also, in order to improve water resistance of matrix resin, IPN method was introduced and the influence was investigated. In order to analyze the basic physical properties of samples, scanning electron microscopy method was utilized, and impulse voltage dielectric strength was measured. As a result, it was verified that, in case of IPN samples, the ratio of moisture absorption was decreased due to the improvement of adhesion strength, and impulse voltage dielectric strength of SN sample was degraded abruptly as boiling time and filler content were increasing, while IPN samples were slowly degraded due to the improvement of adhesion strength.

  • In this paper, the artificial neural network (ANN) is employed to predict the flexural behavior of reinforced concrete (RC) beams retrofitted with carbon fiber/epoxy composites modified by carbon nanotubes (CNTs). Multiple techniques are used to improve the accuracy of the ANN prediction, as the data represents a multivalued function. These techniques include static ANN modeling, ANN modeling with load history, and ANN modeling with double load history. The developed ANN models are used to predict the load-displacement profiles of beams retrofitted with either CFRP or CNTs modified CFRP, flexural capacity, and maximum displacement of the beams. The results demonstrate that the ANN is able to predict the flexural behavior of the retrofitted RC beams as well as the effect of each parameter including the type of the used epoxy and the presence of the CNTs.

  • Fully biodegradable high strength composites or 'advanced green composites' were fabricated using yearly renewable soy protein based resins and high strength liquid crystalline cellulose fibers. For comparison, E-glass and aramid ($Kevlar^{(R)}$) fiber reinforced composites were also prepared using the same modified soy protein resins. The modification of soy protein included forming an interpenetrating network-like (IPN-like) resin with mechanical properties comparable to commonly used epoxy resins. The IPN-like soy protein based resin was further reinforced using nano-clay and microfibrillated cellulose. Fiber/resin interfacial shear strength was characterized using microbond method. Tensile and flexural properties of the composites were characterized as per ASTM standards. A comparison of the tensile and flexural properties of the high strength composites made using the three fibers is presented. The results suggest that these green composites have excellent mechanical properties and can be considered for use in primary structural applications. Although significant additional research is needed in this area, it is clear that advanced green composites will some day replace today's advanced composites made using petroleum based fibers and resins. At the end of their life, the fully sustainable 'advanced green composites' can be easily disposed of or composted without harming the environment, in fact, helping it.
