In this paper, we propose a method for classifying environmental sound for selective noise cancellation in industrial sites. Noise in industrial sites causes hearing loss in workers, and researches on noise cancellation have been widely conducted. However, the conventional methods have a problem of blocking all sounds and cannot provide the optimal operation per noise type because of common cancellation method for all types of noise. In order to perform selective noise cancellation, therefore, we propose a method for environmental sound classification based on deep learning. The proposed method uses new sets of acoustic features consisting of temporal and statistical properties of Mel-spectrogram, which can overcome the limitation of Mel-spectrogram features, and uses convolutional neural network as a classifier. We apply the proposed method to five-class sound classification with three noise classes and two non-noise classes. We confirm that the proposed method provides improved classification accuracy by 6.6% point, compared with that using conventional Mel-spectrogram features.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the noise level and frequency experienced by premature infants receiving incubator care in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Methods: The participants were 20 premature infants receiving incubator care in the NICU of a university hospital in Daejeon Metropolitan city. The noise level was measured using a professional sound-level meter (ET-958, FLUS, Shenzhen, China) based on a noise classification table developed by the author. The data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, the t-test, analysis of variance, and Pearson correlation coefficients using SPSS for Windows version 22.0. Results: The average noise level experienced by premature infants receiving incubator care in the NICU was 51.25 dB (range: 45.0~81.7 dB). The frequency of noises was highest for factors related to nursing activities (40.3%), followed by human factors (29.1%), machine alarm sounds (20.1%), incubator operation (6.6%), and internal environmental factors (3.9%). Conclusion: According to the above results, the noise level experienced by premature infants receiving incubator care in the NICU exceeded the recommendations of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Therefore, it is necessary to develop an interventional program to reduce noise in the NICU, and to conduct follow-up studies to verify its effectiveness.

A scientific and objective sound exposure criterion for underwater sound damage on fish has been required since there has been many disputes between an underwater sound maker and a fish damage receiver. The existing criteria are still incomplete scientifically owing to a degree of variability of underwater sounds, diversity of fish hearing sensitivity and damage types, etc. This study reviews existing studies on a hearing mechanism of fish species, manmade underwater sound characteristics and sound exposure assessment parameters, and recent sound exposure criteria. A governing equation for damage coverage estimation and damage coverage dependency on sound source level, ambient noise and transmission loss are also reviewed and interpreted based on sound exposure environments. The foreign and Korean (National Environmental Dispute Medication Commission) criteria are reviewed and compared based on scientific aspects. In addition, the deficit and limit of Korean criteria are presented. The objective of this study is to give a direction for related researches and legislation of sound exposure criteria on fish.

conducted. In-situ measurements were conducted to investigate the noise characteristics in high-speed trains such as KTX and KTX-Sancheon. Binaural microphones and spherical microphone were adopted to record and evaluate the spectral characteristics and noise incidence characteristics at the seats in the passenger cars. Environmental elements were also recorded during the noise measurements using a camcorder and GPS application. In addition, auditory tests were conducted to investigate annoyance of interior noise of high-speed trains. Based on the objective measure and subjective responses on interior noise, statistical analysis such as correlation and regression analyses were carried out. From the results perception models for evaluating the interior noise of high-speed train were derived.

In order to establish the environmental condition of sounds in the classroom, we measured the impulse response in cases of using and not-using PA(Public-Address). By calculating the physical index of acoustics, I examined the differences between the two cases. The degree of improvement in listening with the help of PA has also been studied by testing the voice articulation with the use of the measured impulse response. As a result, I found that the clearness is enhanced by increasing the sound pressure level in the case of short reverberation. However, it was not the case when the reverberation time was long.
A mercury sphygmomanometer (MS) has been the gold standard for pediatric blood pressure (BP) measurements, and diagnosing hypertension is critical. However, because of environmental issues, other alternatives are needed. Noninvasive BP measurement devices are largely divided into auscultatory and oscillometric types. The aneroid sphygmomanometer, the currently used auscultatory method, is inferior to MS in terms of limitations such as validation and regular calibration and difficult to apply to infants, in whom Korotkoff sounds are not audible. The oscillometric method uses an automatic device that eliminates errors caused by human observers and has the advantage of being easy to use; however, owing to its measurement accuracy issues, the development of an international validation protocol for children is important. The hybrid method, which combines the auscultatory and electronic methods, solves some of these problems by eliminating the observer bias of terminal digit preference while maintaining measurement accuracy; however, the auscultatory method remains limited. As the age-related characteristics of the pediatric group are heterogeneous, it is necessary to reconsider the appropriate BP measurement method suitable for this indication. In addition, the mobile application-based BP measurement market is growing rapidly with the development of smartphone applications. Although more research is still needed on their accuracy, many experts expect that mobile application-based BP measurement will effectively reduce medical costs due to increased ease of access and early BP management.
This study aims to identify the difference in the starting time of the dawn chorus of different species of birds and related environmental conditions. For this study, the bird songs were recorded every 2 hours a day starting from 2 hours before sunrise for a whole spring season (from April to June, 2014) in Korea. The recorded sounds were analyzed to find the starting time of each species' song by sonogram pattern using a sound analyzing program (Adobe Audition CC). To analyze the relationship between the environmental conditions and the time of the birdsong of each species, we collected the data of environmental conditions: daily precipitation, Julian date, time of sunrise and moonrise, temperature data and twilight time from the Korea Meteorological Office. As a result of this study, it was found that there are several statistical correlation between the starting time of the birdsong and environmental conditions (every environmental condition except daily precipitation and time of moonrise). Also, the difference of the starting time among each species were identified. The species were divided into 3 groups (early, mid and late) by their wake-up time. Ring-necked pheasant and yellow-throated bunting were categorized as 'Early' group and all woodpeckers were categorized as'Late' group. This study is significant as it first presented a classification of wild birds in Korea by the starting time of their dawn chorus. However, further studies are required to identify why each species to do their dawn singing at different times.
This paper presents the performance assessment of several key algorithms conducted for amphibian species sound classification. Firstly, 9 target species including endangered species are defined and a database of their sounds is built. For performance assessment, three feature vectors such as MFCC (Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficient), RCGCC (Robust Compressive Gammachirp filterbank Cepstral Coefficient), and SPCC (Subspace Projection Cepstral Coefficient), and three classifiers such as GMM(Gaussian Mixture Model), SVM(Support Vector Machine), DBN-DNN(Deep Belief Network - Deep Neural Network) are considered. In addition, i-vector based classification system which is widely used for speaker recognition, is used to assess for this task. Experimental results indicate that, SPCC-SVM achieved the best performance with 98.81 % while other methods also attained good performance with above 90 %.

Formula acoustic characteristics of the room with a double layer, are compared through simulation and actual measurement. The rear area of the under- balcony speakers will cause a delay difference between the main speaker. In the mid / bass parts do not generate sufficient pressure is lowered and comb-Filtering phenomenon occurs significantly. The lower right area of the under- balcony speakers and speaker distance is the sound pressure of the under- balcony speakers to around 2 ~ 3m bigger than the main speakers and the sound image matches the pulpit is broken. Also, under area is more than 5 ~ 6m from the balcony outside speakers and causes differ by more than 10dB lower than the under- balcony speakers depending on the local laws of Translator wins Well, the main speaker at mid / high frequency sounds do not enter the sound pressure variations will drop by a significant. Appropriate arrangement and the output of the speaker according to the position under the balcony, and output of the main speakers are requested to minimize this problem sound. The proper sound design direction for the under- balcony speakers must be presented in order to improve the lower balcony area more pleasant acoustic environment.
