CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTORS OF A BUILDING DESIGN TEAM

  • The success of a building design team is achieved as a result of a combination of multiple events/factors and interactions, and has a great impact on the quality of the building construction process. While most of previous studies have focused on quality of the construction process, the success of a design team has not been completely investigated. This paper presents the critical factors that impact the success of a building design team and describes an assessment tool to measure the successful performance of the design team with respect to the critical factors. The development of the assessment tool employs the concept of quality function deployment (QFD), a technique to measure the service quality of an organization.

The global standard realizing process of the Automobile Assembly Facility

  • To realize the global standard of the assembly facility, one of key point is an influence of local characteristic. The global standardized information could be a useful input, especially at the beginning stage of the project. The content should be carefully checked against local requirements, in order to develop an Assembly Facility design to meet local regulations & characteristics. The level of input information required in each step is different depend on regions & countries. At an execution stage of the project, the global standard input needs to be updated as customized final input for the construction. There will be many issues to be clarified and coordinated so that the Assembly facilities meet the final requirements for the production technology. As a result, it is important to understand the timing to use the global standard information and the contents what is needed to adapt to the local characteristics. And close collaboration between production technology team and facility team is always required.

Action to Improve the Reliability of Production Planning

  • Management of today's dynamic projects requires a shift of focus from product to process. The purpose of traditional project controls is to conform performance to plan. The purpose of lean project controls is to make the best possible choices at each point in time during the course of the project, as well as contributing knowledge to the parent organizations so they can learn from project experience. The Lean Construction Institute(LCI) proposed the Last Planner System(LPS) capable of accomplishing that purpose, principally through controlling the quality of planning and of management processes themselves, as distinct from concentrating exclusively on project performance. The case project was a pilot project for the implementation of the Last Planner. Consequently, the coordination of the work on this project was extremely successful. The project had its share of challenges. The coordination did not prevent design problems, or supplier errors, but helped the team deal with the problems effectively while maintaining the work flow. The last planner helped the contractors know: a) who will be doing what and where, b) what each one needs from the others, and c) what are the project priorities. The system itself created a more collaborative environment, because it 'demands' that the subcontractors address these issues.

Evaluating Effectiveness of BIM-based Idea Bank during VE Workshop

  • Value Engineering has been recognized as one of the construction management techniques for improving the value and benefits of whole project. However, due to the lack of the past data and inefficient free-thinking techniques, the idea generation during VE workshop is still inefficient and ineffective. Even though various studies related to theoretical methodology and technical systems relevant to database were conducted, VE team still mainly rely on their experience for idea generation. With this regard, this study suggests an approach of BIM-based idea bank and assesses its effectiveness by interviewing 20 VE experts in the industry. This approach covers the three steps of idea generation, consisting of 1) Developing BIM based VE database, 2) Generating VE ideas, 3) Updating VE ideas. The result showed that the proposed approach has great potentials to support VE team and improve the quality of VE ideas during creativity phase.

앱을 이용한 프로젝트관리 학습 커뮤니티에 관한 연구 (A Study on Project Management Learning Community using Application)

  • 최근 교육의 패러다임이 학습자 중심으로 변화되면서 새로운 수업모델의 하나로 프로젝트 기반 수업에 대한 관심이 증대되고 있다. 대학에서는 이러한 변화를 수용하여 창의적으로 변화를 창출 할 수 있는 차세대 인재를 육성하는데 교육의 목표를 두고, 그에 따른 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 대학에서 실시되는 설계 교과목의 주된 교과 내용인 프로젝트를 수행하는데 있어서, 최소화된 교수자의 개입과 주도적인 학습자 중심의 교수학습 모델을 제안하였다. 제안된 모델은 프로젝트 기반 수업의 지원체제, 팀 편성방법, 학습자의 다양한 상호작용 방법, 교수자의 팀워크 모니터링 방식 등을 제시하였으며, 이를 최근 사용이 급증하고 있는 스마트폰을 이용한 프로젝트관리 어플리케이션으로 설계 및 구현하였다.

Agile 방법론을 이용한 S/W개발 프로세스 및 성숙도 측정 (Measurement of S/W Development Processes and Maturity using Agile Methodologies)

  • 최근 애자일 개발프로세스가 생산성 증대효과, 품질향상, 고객만족 등의 효용성이 입증되면서 프로젝트 추진 시 방법론 선택에 있어 전문가들에게 많은 관심을 갖게 되었다. 시대적 요구와 사용자 요구에 부응하기 위한 방법론 선정과 관련해서, 본 논문에서는 제품 기반의 Cross functional team의 문제점을 해결하고자 제안된 방법론이 Feature Team 모델이며, 이 모델이 Cross functional team을 조직하고, 이 팀이 결과물(프로덕트) 단위가 아니라, 기능단위로 여러 프로덕트에 걸쳐서 개발을 진행하는 모델이라는 점에 대해 조사하였으며, 가치-주도형 애자일 기법을 통해 계획-기반형 모델과 차이점을 제시하였다. Agile 성숙도 측정기준을 검토하였으며, PRINCE2 Agile Health-check 항목 연구를 통해 Agile 기법이 프로젝트 착수단계의 요구사항은 확정 본이 아닌 언제라도 변경될 수 있다는 것을 전제를 해서 객관적인 평가를 받는 방법에 대해 연구하고 프로젝트 팀 구성에 대해 향후 발전방향을 제시하였다.

공대 학생들의 프로젝트 주제 선정을 위한 초기 교수학습 지원 방안 탐구 (Examining ways to support engineering students for choosing a project topic in interdisciplinary collaboration)

  • The purposes of the study were to examine engineering students' concerns and problems while they were choosing a project topic in interdisciplinary collaboration and to suggest ways to support them in an early stage of collaboration phase. To answer the research questions, we conducted a case study with engineering participants in GCTI 2015, an interdisciplinary collaborative and creative group project. Multiple data sources including focus group interviews, online survey and researchers' observation notes were used to triangulate research findings. We found four main concerns of engineering students. These concerns include (1) lack of self-efficacy, (2) limited resources, (3) lack of shared, meaningful, and common goals, and (4) lack of content knowledge. Based on these concerns we proposed four supports in an early stage of the collaborative project. These supports includes (1) implementing an orientation program, (2) providing opportunities for social interactions, (3) providing expert feedback, and (4) providing consultation for team building.

Agile 방법론을 이용한 소프트웨어 개발 프로젝트관리 (Software development project management using Agile methodology)

  • 최근에는 소프트웨어개발 프로세스나 도구보다는 개인과의 상호작용을 희망하고, 고객은 포괄적인 문서보다는 우선 작동하는 소프트웨어를 희망하며, 개발자는 계약에 대한 협상보다는 고객과의 협력을, 서로가 계획을 고수하기 보다는 변화에 대응하는 것을 더욱 가치 있게 생각한다. 이러한 관점에서, 소프트웨어 개발은 프로세스 중심보다는 프로젝트팀에게 자율성과 동기를 부여하고, 열정과 비전 등 인간관계 중심의 관리방식이 요구되고 있다. 최근에 와서 애자일 개발프로세스가 생산성 증대효과, 품질향상, 고객만족 등의 효용성이 입증되면서 프로젝트를 추진 할 때 방법론 선택에 있어, 전문가들에게 주목을 받게 되었다. 시대적 요구와 사용자 요구에 부응하기 위한 방법론 선정과 관련, 본 논문에서는 조직 구성에 있어, 제품 기반의 Cross functional team의 문제점을 해결하고자 제안된 방법론이 Feature Team 모델이며, 이 모델이 Cross functional team을 조직하고, 이 팀이 결과물(프로덕트) 단위가 아니라, 기능단위로 여러 프로덕트에 걸쳐서 개발을 진행하는 모델이라는 점에 대해 조사하였으며, 가치-주도형 애자일 기법을 통해 계획-기반형 모델과 차이점을 제시하였다. 그리고 객체지향모델링을 위해서는 기존의 JAD(joint application development)회의가 목표로 하는 도메인 분석, 요구추출, 모델링과 정리, 검토과정에 있어, UML 구조도와 행동도를 사전에 숙지하고 프로젝트를 진행하도록 제안한다.

The Effect of Project Complexity, Team Members' Structure, and Process Index on Efficiency of System Integration Projects

  • Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) is a theoretically sound framework for performance analysis that offers many advantages over traditional methods such as performance ratios and regression analysis. Largely the result of multidisciplinary research during the last three decades in economics, engineering and management, DEA is best described as an effective new way of visualizing and analyzing performance data. Besides, overseas information technology companies have aggressively tried to enter the domestic market. In the age of globalization and high competition, it is imperative that the system integration (SI) companies need to introduce the performance evaluation models of SI projects, including Capability Maturity Model and Software Process Improvement and Capability Determination, to gain a competitive advantage. Therefore, it makes our research regarding evaluation of SI projects very opportune. The purpose of the study is not only to evaluate efficiency of each project by DEA but also to gain insight into various factors such as project complexity, team members' man-months structure, and process index(project management index) that link to the projects performance.

Study on the Influence of Stakeholders in Construction Projects

  • The interactions and interrelationships between stakeholders largely determine the overall performance of a construction project, and have the crucial responsibility for delivering a project to successful completion. An important component of stakeholder management is stakeholder analysis. Two case studies are conducted within Kerala (India). The main objective was to carry out stakeholder analysis using stakeholder organiser deluxe software, considering the data's collected from the project execution team using questionnaire. During data collection the key stakeholders were identified, to know how to manage them, their interest, power, attitude level etc, for quality improvement. Analyze the results using the software Stakeholder organizer deluxe and modeling of stakeholders is to be done. Finally validate the models of the projects. These findings may mainly reflect the stakeholder management environment in the respective regions of project implementation.
