Relationships among Self-Leadership, Social Support and Interpersonal Competence of Women Engineering Students (공과대학 여학생의 셀프리더십, 사회적지지, 대인관계 유능성 간의 관계)

  • This research sought to investigate the relationships among self-leadership, social support and interpersonal competence of women engineering students. First, women undergraduate students' differences respecting self-leadership, social support and interpersonal competence were examined. Second, the relationships among self-leadership, social support and interpersonal competence were identified in terms of sub-factors of those three variables. Third, the effects of social support and interpersonal competence, as perceived by women undergraduate students, on self-leadership were explored. A total of 398 women undergraduate students from three universities in Korea responded to survey based on a three-variables scale. The findings were that, firstly, women engineering students scored lower in all of the three variables including self-leadership, social support and interpersonal competence, and that these major differences were statistically significant. Secondly, a positive correlation among self-leadership, social support and interpersonal competence was identified. Thirdly, it was determined that self-leadership was affected significantly by social support and interpersonal competence. The practical implications of these findings are discussed herein, with particular attention on education for promotion of self-leadership, social support and interpersonal competence.

  • The title of research is a study on the leadership in Korean management. The purpose of research is that I build up the ideal management-leadership in future which is objective and suitable studying through the existing theory at all points, and analyzing the leadership in Korean management concentrated on situational factors. Moreover it contributes to the promotion of productivity, the contents of research 1. The importance of management-leadership. 2. The development in theory concentrated on a principle of leadership. 3. The development in behavioral scientific leadership, which adopts situational approach to its methodology. 4. The study on the leadership-style and the pursuit of the ideal management-leadership in accordance with behavioral analysis. 5. The build up of leadership in Korean management. The refore I learn the following facts through the study on the leadership in modern management. 1. Leadership consists of the relations among all interdependant variables composing of system. 2. The problem of the increase in the management-leadership effectiveness. 3. The pursuit oriented ideal management-leadership. 4. The build-up of leadership in Korean management. So far 1 have studied the theory of management-leadership at all points and the leadership in Korean management concentrated on situational factors. I learn that leadership is made of the relations among these in building the future management-leadership. Therefore I try to come to the conclusion by raising the following three problems. 1. The increase in leadership effectiveness. 2. Leadership-oriented. 3. The build-up of the leadership in Korean management.

Safety Leadership in Construction

  • This paper probes into safety leadership in construction and its impacts on site safety performance. A safety leadership model for construction is proposed. It contains two impacting paths of safety leadership, namely safety management and safety culture. By action research, safety improvement is achieved through leadership fulfillment on construction sites.

  • This qualitative research aimed to understand what leadership engineers need to have based on perceptions of people in charge of human resources in the large engineering companies in Korea. Focused group interviews were performed with 10 participants and the collected qualitative data were analyzed using the constant comparative method. The findings showed that the required leadership for engineers consists of six elements: technological professionalism, management skills, cross-functional skills, abilities to change organizational culture, work ethics, and technological creativity. This leadership elements were formulated in the engineering work environment and job characteristics which can be represented by technology-based professionalism, flexibility in work, and process-centered work. The implications for collegiate engineering leadership education were also suggested.

A Study on a Leadership Skill for Cultivating Global Engineering Leaders (글로벌 공학리더를 양성하기 위한 리더십 역량 연구)

  • This study proposes content and instruction of leadership education based on the results of evaluation and analysis of leadership skill of present levels of students who registered for 'leadership development and training' course which is liberal arts elective course of the 'Accreditation Board of Engineering Education in Korea' and provides best practices to develop leadership skill and to attain academic achievement 2, 4, 6, 7 of 12 academic achievement required by KEC2005. To accomplish a purpose of the study, I divide leadership skill into technical skill, human skill and conceptual skill that suggested by Katz and then measure students' leadership skill. The contents of leadership education to develop and enforce three leadership skills are as follows. First, for developing technical skill, there is a need for systematic education of basic working experience relevant to a major field of study. Second, for developing human skill, there is a need for education of leadership, motivation, conflict management, communication, group dynamics and presentation etc. Third, for developing conceptual skill, there is a need for education of founding vision, business strategy and creative idea etc.

  • Organizational personnel must have well-developed interpersonal skills to deal with the different stakeholders and departments, to work at different levels in the hierarchy, and to meet varying performance requirements. Many leadership development and mentoring programs are designed to expose students as well as construction professionals to contemporary leadership techniques and skills. Leadership skills generally separate into three decision-making styles with varying degrees: 1) Autocratic, 2) Participate, and 3) Free-rein. This paper describes the study of leadership styles among 174 construction professionals and addresses the most appropriate leadership style for a project executive and a project manager in relation to compare with the characteristic leadership style and job functions. The study supports the growing importance of leadership skills as a component of managerial functions and provides a benchmark to identify a dominant leadership skill for a specific managerial position.

A Case Study on the Continuous Quality Improvement for Leadership Outcomes Education in Yeungnam University (영남대학교 리더십 학습성과 교육 CQI 방안에 대한 연구)

  • The objective of the current study is to establish the CQI procedure of leadership outcome education, which is emphasized in engineering education accreditation. Leadership includes many program outcomes, especially soft skills, such as communication skill, team work skill, and etc. This paper studied leadership education program in Yeungnam University. In particular, this research was conducted by using focus group interviews with experts and working level staffs of relevant organizations for the analysis of Yeungnam University curriculum and non-curriculum courses related to leadership education and for the preparation of leadership education CQI method. In addition, we conducted leadership competence diagnosis, leadership education demand survey and satisfaction level survey on the leadership camp participants. Interviews with experts, lecturers and focus group of Dale Carnegie Research Institute Daegu branch that administered the progress of leadership camp were conducted along with analysis of education contents through non-participation observation method during camp period and participant students interviews. The conclusions are summed up as follows: To educate global leaders in true meaning, first, psychological level competence strengthening method and study completing ability improvement method should be considered simultaneously. In particular, for non-capital region universities, emphasis should be given to education for self-confidence and vision establishment. Second, leadership education methods of mid/long term and systematic curricular and extra-curricular type should be pursued. For instance, with the use of engineering design subject completing system, leadership education can be consolidated to engineering subject courses with engineering design projects or the system of mentor-pupil among earlier leadership camp participants and later participants may be utilized. Third, it is determined necessary to pursue and realize practical methods of conducting various intramural leadership related education activities in mid/long term perspective by organizing leadership education advisory group consisting of major, departments and intramural and extramural relevant organization authorities that focus on leadership education.

  • Mid-sized manufacturing companies, which account for 0.7%(5,480 companies), 13.8%(1.169 million persons) of total employment, and 15.7% of total sales, have recently experienced a lot of difficulties in management activities due to the impact of COVID-19, the U.S.-China trade war, and the collapse of global supply chains. To overcome this, revitalization of quality management activities to strengthen corporate competitiveness is emerging as an urgent task. In order for these quality management activities to achieve their intended purpose, the positive leadership of corporate managers is very important above all else. There have been many studies related to positive leadership, but most have focused on charismatic leadership and transformational leadership centered on large companies or small and medium-sized enterprises. Therefore, this study aims to present ways to strengthen the leadership of managers by empirically analyzing how the positive leadership of managers of mid-sized manufacturing companies, which was relatively under-researched, affects quality management activities and Business performance(Balanced Score Card; BSC).

Transformational Leadership and Organizational Citizenship Behavior : The Mediating Role of Self Leadership (변혁적리더십이 조직시민행동에 미치는 영향에 있어 셀프리더십의 매개효과에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of transformational leadership and organizational citizenship behavior. It also investigated the mediating effect of self leadership on the causal relationship between transformational leadership and organizational citizenship behavior. Research results, transformational leadership had a positive affected on the self leadership, The self leadership had a positive affected on organizational citizenship behavior. And transformational leadership did not make a significant impact on organizational citizenship behavior. Finally, the self leadership was a full mediator on the relationships between the transformational leadership and the organizational citizenship behavior. Based on these findings, the implications and the limitations of the study were presented including some directions for future studies.

The relationship between leadership and service quality (리더십과 서비스품질의 관계에 대한 연구)

  • As the family's revenue and the preference for the quality of life increase, outdoor food and meal industry is rapidly growing up in Korea. Thus employee's service quality is much more necessary in this industry This paper reviews the relationship between the leadership and the service quality. Samples collected from restaurant employee were 571 cases and were analyzed to test the relationship between the leadership factors and the service quality factors. Statistical results showed that the leadership influences to the tangibility and the empathy among service quality factors more than to other factors. And the transformational leadership style is more effective than transactional leadership style.
