Results : There were significant differences in employee satisfaction according to hospital size, job group and career. Additionally, there were positive correlations between each of the factors for employee satisfaction and overall employee satisfaction. Multiple regression analysis showed that overall employee satisfaction was affected by factors such as job, communication, personnel and leadership according to hospital size, job group and career. Conclusions : The results of this study suggest that by identifying the differences in satisfaction of employees who are working in different circumstances and providing resources to satisfy employee needs, hospital employers can promote the growth of the hospital by reducing employee turnover.

Organizational effectiveness was represented by the level of job satisfaction, organizational commitment, stress, and intent to leave. Data were collected from 372 workers at 6 hospitals in Chungbuk Province using self-administered questionnaires from May 1 to 20, 2009, and analysed using t-test, ANOVA, correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis. The major findings of the study are as follows: First, friendship level of hospital employees is highest in the friendship with colleague, followed by the friendship with subordinates and with superiors. Second, the group of higher level of workplace friendship showed significantly higher level of organizational effectiveness than the group of lower level of workplace friendship. Third, the level of the workplace friendship with superiors and colleagues was found to have a significant positive impact on the job satisfaction and organizational commitment. The level of the workplace friendship with superior was found to have a significant negative effect on the intent to leave and work stress. These results imply that hospital managers should make an effort to create the organizational climate and systems which improve the workplace friendship.

  • The researches on corporate social responsibility(CSR) focused mostly on its effects on financial performance or consumer's behavior. However relatively few studies have dealt with employee's attitude towards CSR. The purpose of this study is to analyze determinants of hospital employee's attitude towards CSR. The data were collected from 163 employees at a general hospital in Gyeonggi-do from June 18 to July 18 in 2012. For the statistical analysis of data, t-test, ANOVA, and hierarchical multiple regression analysis were implemented. The result of hierarchical multiple regression analysis shows that first, perceived management support and direct benefits were positively related to the attitude towards the acceptance of CSR while interruption of work was negatively related. Second, as interruption of work was controlled, the statistically significant relationship between clinical department and attitude towards the acceptance of CSR was disappeared. In order to accommodate CSR in hospitals, first, the enterprise-wide support is more effective rather than expecting the action of each employee. Second, hospitals should provide the education about CSR to let employees expect direct benefits such as improving of their moral sense. Third, the burden of work causing interruption needs to be managed to cause employees to accept CSR.

The subject of this study were 686 employees in 12 General Hospitals in Metro Capital including Seoul. Materials were collected from administrators, nurses and medical technicians in target hospitals from March 20 to May 10, 2005 through survey questionnaires. The main results of this study were as follows: 1. the commitment level of the subjects according to their characteristics was higher in older employees than the younger ones, large family to support than small family to support and those who had higher positions in labor union. 2. The commitment level of the subjects according to the job and role related variables were higher those who had higher satisfaction level to their job and manager, role conflict in all hospitals. 3. The commitment level of the subjects according to union related variables, variables jointly controlled by union and employer was satistically significant positive correlation. In other words, the commitment level of the subjects according to the subjects' labor union involvement was higher in those who had higher satisfaction in labor union and perceived their colleagues' attitudes more positively in all hospitals. Regarding the atmosphere of the relationship between union and employer and the level of commitment in labor union, the better the atmosphere of the relationship between union and employer was, the higher the level of commitment in labor union was in all hospitals. 4. The results of multiple regression analysis shows that formal and informal socialization, union participation to the union management cooperation program, job satisfaction, satisfaction with the labor union's were all found as important antecedents of labor union commitment. 5. Job and role-related variables, union-related variables, variables jointly controlled by union and employer, and labor union commitment level were all found significantly different in accordance with the characteristics of unions concerned. To summarize study results, the level of commitment in labor union depends on job satisfaction, manager's attitudes, satisfaction to their jobs, union satisfaction, their colleagues attitudes toward union and the atmosphere of employer-employee relationship. Therefore hospital managers should have democratic and flexible attitudes toward labor union. Additionally, as formal and informal socialization, union participation to the union-management cooperation program is important determinant in union commitment, hospital managers should have countermeasures to enhance the colleague attitude and job satisfaction level of hospital employees. Since this study deals with psychological nature of workers not a few drawbacks and shortcomings may be detected in the finding. Nevertheless, the finding of this study, to become a momentum that will stimulate further research to detect all the cues of labor union commitment and to provide valuable reference in forming logical union commitment and labor union-management cooperation.

  • The purpose of this study is to verify the effects of hospital employees' communication satisfaction on their perceived organizational effectiveness. Four research hypothesis are established for the purpose of this study. The subject of this study were 473 employees who were working at 10 general hospitals in Korea. The survey was done with structured questionnaire from January 3 to February 8, 2013. The results of stepwise regression analysis show that hospital employees' communication satisfaction positively affected organizational effectiveness. Interaction effects between employees' communication satisfaction and work types had stronger effect on organizational growth than organizational stability. It can be pointed out as an important issue that communication satisfaction score of medical support occupation is the lowest level(3.11 points out of 5 points). If hospitals want an integration of organization, it is required to develop method or skill to increase communication satisfaction among employees.

  • Purpose: The purpose of the study was to examine mission statements and their elements and to investigate correlations between mission statements and organizational performance. Methods: The current research was a descriptive study based on the examination of mission statements of 353 hospitals that posted mission statements on their webpage and 92 hospitals that made their income statements public. Results: The most common mission element was 'identification of principal services', which accounted for 92.6%. Mission statements of hospitals included the average of 4.82 mission elements out of 9, and the objective of medical quality improvement was 0.81 among 6 objectives of IOM (Institute of Medicine). Net profit of hospitals with mission statements that have above average number of mission elements were significantly higher (t=2.71, p=.008) than those of other hospitals. Net profit was significantly correlated with mission statements (r=.26, p<.001), and mission elements (r=.29, p<.001). Conclusion: The results of the study empirically reveal that mission statements in the hospital affect organizational performance. That is, better organizational performance is shown for hospitals with better, more diversified, and more firmly stated mission statements which include identification of target customers, identification of principal services, contribution to society as a non-profit organization, and concern for employees.
