  • The domestic fashion industry of the middle and late 20th century emphasized the importance of a standardized design process; however, the values of differentiated brand individuality have become increasingly important with the qualitative·quantitative growth of designer brands. Therefore, paying attention to designer individuality (or a differentiated element of a designer brand growing up in the domestic fashion industry) this study reestablished factors of the designer brand individuality. An in-depth interview was conducted with 13 designers and consumers for empirical analysis. In order to identify concepts of designer individuality based on the theory of the brand personality by Aaker along with precedent studies, the study devised a theoretical frame to explain a conceptual structure of designer brand individuality as well as reestablish its factors as the designer individuality, design and non-design factors through empirical research. Empirical research derived the designer individuality factors as an external designer image, designer taste, design philosophy and designer personality. Design factors were derived as concept, working process and method, style and formativeness. Non-design factors were also extracted as wearing experience, wearer image, lookbook image, fashion shows and exhibitions. It is meaningful that little empirical research has been conducted on domestic fashion designers who actually run designer brands and that this study helped understand designer brands through a new approach called designer individuality.

  • Inter-port competition is fiercer than in the past because of technological evolution in transport systems : the increasing side of containerships implies only a few calls in three or four ports at each end of the trade and the rest of the traffic being served by smaller feederships. It is therefore essential for big ports to be selected as one of these calls by the main shipowners, consortia and alliances to avoid rmarginalisation. In order to compete effectively, many ports have been obliged to modernise and extend considerably its existing ports or to build new port facilities. With the advent of major environmental legislation around the world, however, amenities such as fish and wildlife, clean air and water, access to the waterfront, and view protection took on greater importance. Ports are now being forced to incorporate environmental considerations into their planning and management functions in order to avoid additional costs or timing delays. The aim of this paper is to analyse the port value by which port comparison(or selection) will be made with HFP(Hierarchical Fuzzy Process) method. This was done by extracting and grouping the evaluation factors of port value by port experts : facility and location factor, logistics service factor environment and amenity factor, city and economic factor, and human and system factor. For empirical test of this method, 6 major ports in Northeast Asia were chosen and analysed. The order of importance for five evaluation factors were 1) facility and location factor 2) logistics service factor 3) human and system factor, 4) city and economic factor, and 5) environment and amenity factor. This means that geographical location and logistics services are still being considered as the most important factor to call the port by port users. even though environment and amenity factor shows relatively low figure. Among 6 major ports, Port of Kobe was ranked the first position in a comprehensive evaluation, while Ports of Busan and Kwangyang were 4th and 5th respectively. This implies that Port of Busan should make much efforts to enhance the existing facilities as well as management system.

  • In order to evaluate undrained shear strength of clayey soils using Piezocone Penetration Test (CPTu), piezoncone factor is utilized. Commonly, piezoncone factors determined by empirical basis were preferred, which were established by correlation between measurements of piezocone test and undrained strengths obtained from other shearing tests. However, previous studies on the empirical piezocone factors were site-specific and there have been no systematic investigations on the effect of both engineering characteristics of clayey soils and soil non-homogeneity on the piezocone factor. Accordingly, the direct application of the previous results to Korean clayey soils without verification may be inappropriate. In this study, empirical piezocone factors are evaluated by comparing 46 CPTu results of 10 test sites with undrained shear strength obtained from Field Vane Test (FVT) and laboratory triaxial tests. Their reliabilities are investigated by the comparison with the previous piezocone factors and the deviation of data distribution from the mean values. And the effects of referencing test methods and typical engineering characteristics of clayey soils such as overconsolidation ratio (OCR) and plastic Index (I$_{p}$) are examined. Because piezocone factors obtained for various soil conditions are widely distributed, it is not appropriate to use the mean value as a representative. Instead, it is recommended to apply the piezocone factors with OCR, which is found to be a major factor in deriving piezocone factor. The necessitated piezocone factors are presented.d.

  • We classified quality management practices of manufacturing companies into 'Infra' factor and 'Process' factor which were introduced based on existing literatures and previous studies related to quality management. It was our first objective to confirm its conformance in Korean manufacturing industry, and to examine the two factors effect positively on production performance. Moreover, we tried to examine whether JIT and workforce management have an moderate effect on 'Infra and Process factors-performance' relationship, using moderate regression. As the result of empirical study on nationwide manufacturing companies, we had the results that the classification between Infra factor and Process factor in quality management practices was valid in Korean manufacturing companies, and that the two factors gave performances positive effect. Moreover, our secondary analysis showed that JIT had an positive moderate effect on the Infra factor while workforce management on the Process factor. With these results, we have an interpretation that manufacturing companies which aim to enhance short term performances have to concentrate their effort and investment on Process factor and, on the other hand, ones which aims to improve long term performances on Infra factor.

  • Purpose - This study provides appropriate procedures for EFA to help researchers conduct empirical studies by using PLS-SEM. Research design, data, and methodology - This study addresses the absolute and relative sample size criteria, sampling adequacy, factor extraction models, factor rotation methods, the criterion for the number of factors to retain, interpretation of results, and reporting information. Results - The factor analysis procedure for PLS-SEM consists of the following five stages. First, it is important to look at whether both the Bartlett test of sphericity and the KMO MSA meet the qualitative criteria. Second, PAF is a better choice of methodology. Third, an oblique technique is a suitable method for PLS-SEM. Fourth, a combined approach is strongly recommended to factor retention. PA should be used at the onset. Next, it is recommended using the K1 criterion. In addition, it is necessary to extract factors that increase the total variance explanatory power through the PVA-FS. Finally, it is appropriate to select an item with a factor loading into 0.5 or higher and a communality of 0.5. Conclusions - It is expected that the accurate factor analysis processed for PLS-SEM as previously presented will help us extract more precise factors of the structural model.

  • This paper examines the efficacy of the default risk factor in an emerging market context using the Fama-French five-factor model. Our aim is to test whether the Fama-French five-factor model augmented with a default risk factor improves the predictability of returns of portfolios sorted on the firm's characteristics as well as on industry. The default risk factor is constructed by estimating the probability of default using a hybrid version of dynamic panel probit and artificial neural network (ANN) to proxy default risk. This study also provides evidence on the temporal stability of risk premiums obtained using the Fama-MacBeth approach. Using a sample of 3,806 firm-year observations on non-financial listed companies of Pakistan over 2006-2015 we found that the augmented model performed better when tested across size-investment-default sorted portfolios. The investment factor contains some default-related information, but default risk is independently priced and bears a significantly positive risk premium. The risk premiums are also found temporally stable over the full sample and more recent sample period 2010-2015 as evidence by the Fama-MacBeth regressions. The finding suggests that the default risk factor is not a useless factor and due to mispricing, default risk anomaly prevails in the Pakistani equity market.

  • The purpose of this study was the investigation of theoretical and empirical relationships between Piagetian and psychometric assessments of intelligence. Specifically, the factor structure of Piagetian-type scales, the relationship between Piagetian scales and psychometric intelligence tests, and differences in the factor structure of Piagetian and psychometric assessments of intelligence were studied. The subjects of this stuby were 70 children (35 boys and 35 girls) in the 1st grade of an elementary school in Seoul The Piagetian-type scales and the K-WISC were administered individually, and the General Intelligence Test was administered to groups of children. Statistical analysis of the obtained data consisted of the SPSS Computer program including factor analysis and Pearson's product moment correlation coefficient. The Piagetian-type scales were found to consist of three factors, which accounted for 55 percent of the total common-factor variance. Factor-I was a factor indicating "conservation". Factor-II was a factor indicating "moral judgements". Factor-III was a factor indicating "classification and identity". Correlations between subtests of psychometric tests and Piagetian scales were relatively low or moderate. Relations between IQs assessed by the psychometric tests and Piagetian scales were also relativeyly low or moderate. Eight factors were extracted from the joint factor analysis of psychometric intelligence tests and Piagetian scales, and they accounted for 67 percent of the total common-factor variance. Factors-I, II, III, and V consisted of subtests of psychometric assessments, and Factors-IV, VI, VII and VIII were composed of Piagetian scales. Factor-I was a factor for "reasoning ability based upon language". Factor-II was a factor for "performance ability". Factor-III was a factor for "grouping ability". Factor-IV was a factor for "conservation". Factor-V was a factor indicating "symbol and language usage ability". Factor- VI was a factor indicating "moral judgments". Factor-VII was a factor indicating "length consevation". Factor-VIII was a factor indicating "classification and identity".

  • Occupational Stress is defined the stress which occurs in the workplace or organization. In Korean workers, the rate of occupational stress was 87.8% which was the highest level among OECD countries(average 80.0%). The purpose of this study was to examine the empirical verification of the Korean Occupational Stress Scale(KOSS) in physical therapists. For this purpose, the subject of this study was set up physical therapists who were working at Gyeonggi province and collected from 388 persons by using purposive sampling. The collected data was conducted explanatory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis in order to ascertain factor structure and practical verification of KOSS. Major results were as following: first, the reliability of KOSS was 0.83, and it means that a measure of internal consistency is high. Second, the KOSS result of physical therapists was composed 7 subscales(job demand, insufficient job control, job insecurity, interpersonal conflict, occupational system and lack of reward, organizational climate) and that is more appropriate measurement scale than the original one by using explanatory/confirmatory factor analysis. This study could be contributed as a tool for evaluation and outcome of the basic information of related occupational stress in physical therapists.
