An Empirical Study on the Sub-factors of Middle School Character Education using Social Network Analysis (사회 네트워크 분석을 이용한 중등 인성 교육의 세부요인에 관한 실증 연구)

  • The advancements in scientific technology and information network in the 21st century allow us to easily acquire a desired knowledge. In the midst of today's informatization, globalization, and cultural diversification, adolescents experience emotional confusion while accommodating diverse cultures and information. This study aimed at examining three aspects of character suggested by the Ministry of Education, which are ethics, sociality, and emotion, and the actual sub-factors required for character education. To that end, a survey was conducted with adolescents who were at a character-building age, and social network analysis (SNA) was performed to determine the effect of character education on the sub-factors. The statistics program SPSS was used to investigate the general traits of the subjects and the validity of the research variables. The 2-mode data that were finally selected were converted to 2-mode data using NetMinder 4, which is a network analysis tool. Furthermore, a data network was established based on a quasi-network that represents the relationships between ethics, sociality, and emotion. The results of this study showed that the subjects considered honesty and justice to be the sub-domains of the ethics domain. In addition, they identified sympathy, communication, consideration for others, and cooperation as the sub-domains of the sociality domain. Finally, they believed that self-understanding and self-control were the sub-domains of the emotion domain.

  • Character business is generally synthetic business over the cultural barrier and it is highly estimated because it creates high added value as emotional business when emotional marketing is the hottest thing on the market lately. So, the long seller characters are regarded as important items much further. , the typical long seller character in Korea, succeeded in both the cartoon and animation with popularity and there are plenty of OSMU (One Source Multi Use) products spinning from it. Since 2000, however, the markets of comics, animation and characters have been departmentalized, and the characters which were analytically designed, have appeared. Characteristics of Character Costume in the Theme Park (테마파크 캐릭터 코스튬의 특성)

  • The purpose of this study is to research on concept, consisting factors, and specialties of theme park' character costumes to understand better about character costumes as well as to establish fundamental research data. The characteristics of character costumes in the theme park are as follows. First, theme park' character costumes are personified so that visitors may feel friendly and have emotional communication with them. Specially, costume that anthropomorphize an animal(85.3%) and silhouette of lozenge style(86.8%) dominated the highest weight. Animal figures are walking upright and wearing human's clothes. They communicate with visitors using mime actions. Second, various types of body proportion is applied to highlight the characteristics of character costume. Most character costumes are applied with unrealistic body proportion. This unrealistic body proportion give abnormal image and looks funny. The important factor is size of their head. Especially, 3.5 body proportion(78.9%) is general. Third, simplification, exaggeration, shrinkage, and modification are other factors. Simplification is applied differently by parts. Pocket, collar details are simplified to clarify the character's image. More simplification can lead to ommission. For their head, peculiar parts look stand out but other parts are simplified to stress their characteristics. Exaggeration is used with shrinkage to give strong impression to visitors. Forms are broken intentionally and they are modified. They look impressive because they are not harmonized. It is unexpected image and induces humor and familiar feelings. Matter of stylization includes exaggeration, shrinkage, modification and movement of actors that have tangible factor of character costume.

The Effect of Emotional Labor and Emotional Dissonance on Burnout and Turnover Intention for the Hotel's Employee (호텔종사원의 감정노동에 따른 감정부조화가 소진 및 이직의도에 미치는 영향)

  • This paper is 1) to find out what make cause in the emotional labor and emotional dissonance on hotel employee, 2) to investigate relationship between burnout and turnover intention on the personal character, 3) finally to suggest strategical implications for hotel management decision-maker. The questionnaires are distributed 400 on hotel employees, then used for data analysis 351. The results are as followed. First, the higher surface acting, deep acting, and emotional deviance in the emotional labor, the higher emotional dissonance. But the higher expression of natural emotions, it was showed lowly in the emotional dissonance. Second, the higher emotional dissonance, it was revealed highly burnout and turnover intention.

  • The aim of this paper is to suggest some ways of moral education for the building of children's social awareness and relationship skills as social and emotional competencies. Based on the social and emotional learning(SEL), this paper is tried to provide the effective ways to develop children's social awareness and relationship skill. According to SEL, social and emotional competence is the ability to understand, manage, and express the social and emotional aspects of one's life in ways that enable the successful management of life tasks such as learning, forming relationships, solving everyday problems, and adapting to the complex demands of growth and development. And it is also the process of acquiring and effectively applying the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to recognize and manage emotions. Five key competencies such as self-awareness, social awareness, responsible decision making, self-management, relationship skills are taught, practiced, and reinforced through SEL programming. Moral education and social and emotional learning have emerged as two prominent formal approaches used schools to provide guidance for students' behavior. social awareness and relationship skills are necessary for succeeding in school, in the family, in the community, in life in general. Equipped with such skills, attitudes and beliefs, young children are more likely to make healty, caring, ethical, and responsible decisions and to avoid engaging in behaviors with negative consequences such as interpersonal violence and bullying.

Effectiveness of a Character Education Program on Cultivating Character among Elementary School Students (인성교육 프로그램이 초등학생 인성 함양에 미치는 효과)

  • Objective : The purpose of the present study was to examine the effectiveness of a school-based character education program on the character development of elementary school students. Methods : A total of 1,325 elementary school students participated in the study. Pre-post changes in eight character virtues (self-esteem, self-regulation, honesty, sincerity, communication & caring, citizenship, justice, responsibility/cooperation) and student satisfaction were assessed. A paired t-test was performed to determine the effects of the program. Results : Of the students who participated in the program, the 4th and 5th grade students showed significantly increased scores on all eight character virtues ; whereas, the 6th grade students showed significantly increased scores on five character virtues. Conclusion : Despite the differences in effect based on the grade levels, the study results supported the effectiveness of a school-based socio-emotional character education program. This study could provide a basis for future research on the development of effective character education programs.

  • Customizing system is acting a main role for the character production system of MMORPG. However, since using the high degree of freedom in MMORPG, these characters are too individual and lack of awareness. We can describe each character's emotional characteristics and understand the correlation of characters more easily by adjusting design factors capable of cognitive decision to characters. Game character developer should consider seeking efficient character design process that is suitable to MMORPG game environment and users for proper character recognition and promoting character preferences. In addition, this research being extended on the article vol.13, no.3, "A Study on Cognitive and Preference of Games' Character" on Korean Society of Basic Design in June 2012 issue and this study is expected to have effectives as one method for the purpose of this research is to inquire and present what type of relation lies between recognition and preference of game characters of MMORPG.

Understanding the Character of University Students: Gender Differences and Pathways of Character Factors (대학생 인성에 대한 이해: 성차와 인성요인의 경로)

  • In order to understand the character of university students, this study confirmed the gender tendency of whether there is a difference in the character of university students according to gender, and if there is a difference, what characteristics there are. It was confirmed through which pathways the cognitive, emotional, and behavioral factors, which are the character factors of university students, affect them. The research results are as follows. First, according to gender, the character of university students was found to be different in all areas of cognition, emotion, and behavior. It was confirmed that female students were higher than male students in all areas. Second, as for the pathways of university student character factors, it was confirmed that the higher the level of the cognitive domain, the higher the level of the affective domain, and the behavioral domain was improved. The results derived from this study can be objective basic data for developing a character education course or program for university students.

Aesthetical-ethical Paradigm of Care Ethics in Nursing (돌봄의 윤리를 위한 미감적 - 윤리적 패러다임)

  • The purposes of this study was to find aesthetical-ethical paradigm of care ethics by understanding the unique moral character of care as an art and to suggest the optimal direction of nursing ethics. Method: This study used meaning-heuristic and -interpretive methods of hermeneutics based on philosophical aesthetic theory; Baumgarten's aesthetics, Schiller's theory of aesthetical education and Kant's theory of aesthetical judgement. Result: The concept of care implied aesthetical and ethical character; caring as an art was related to moral feeling based on human dignity und emotional communication in interpersonal-relationship. Caring as an art was interpreted as a moral ideal for the promotion of the humanity und the interaction in personal-relationship according to nursing theories. Philosophical aesthetics could provide the theoretical base for the interpretation of caring as an art. The proper paradigm of care ethics in nursing could be found in character-trait ethics and communication ethics according to the philosophical aesthetics. Conclusion: This study could show aesthetical-ethical paradigm of care ethics in nursing by the heuristic interpretation of caring as an art according to the philosophical aesthetics

  • Interior material covering as the final process of house-building, critically influences not only aesthetic character but also air quality of indoor space. Wall covering today, however, caused a serious social problem because of chemicals contained in the industrial wallpaper and artificial glue. In this context, Korean traditional wall covering of Han-ji can be an alternative model due to it's ecological character. Recently 'Hanok' attracts public attention, since society and people become to appreciate the unique beauty and value of our traditional culture. The values include natural beauty, emotional character, and environment-friendliness. Recognizing this, this paper intended to scrutinize the operating process of Han-ji as an interior finish material. Historical research method was employed, tracing the related articles in old literature and interviewing with the witness of the experienced expert. Thereby, healthier and unique aesthetic indoor environment can be expected to be sustainable along with the rich cultural life of ancestors.
