Analysis of Music Rationale and Fidelity in Music Emotion Regulation Studies (국외 음악정서조율 연구의 음악 논거 및 충실도 분석)

  • With increasing interest in the emotional responses to music, research on the regulatory mechanisms of music has been ongoing. This study examines the fidelity of music emotion regulation (MER) studies by analyzing the quality of rationales provided for using music to induce emotional regulation. A total of 45 internationally published studies were collected for review, and analysis was conducted on criteria related to the use of music, including duration, number of pieces, selection rationale, and the selecting agent. Despite the research objectives aiming to investigate the emotional regulation effects of music, it was found that the majority of studies lacked specific information about the music used, and there was weak consistency among the studies. Additionally, reliable evidence for music activities, music selection, and music implementation time was not provided, and there was a lack of logical basis for the regulatory mechanisms of music. The results of this study imply the necessity for fidelity to the rationale of music emotion regulation to establish itself as a research area. Such rigorous fidelity will contribute to increasing the replicability and integrity of research on the therapeutic uniqueness of music.

Emotion Recognition in Children With Autism Spectrum Disorder: A Comparison of Musical and Visual Cues (음악 단서와 시각 단서 조건에 따른 학령기 자폐스펙트럼장애 아동과 일반아동의 정서 인식 비교)

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate how accurately children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD; n = 9) recognized four basic emotions (i.e., happiness, sadness, anger, and fear) following musical or visual cues. Their performance was compared to that of typically developing children (TD; n = 14). All of the participants were between the ages of 7 and 13 years. Four musical cues and four visual cues for each emotion were presented to evaluate the participants' ability to recognize the four basic emotions. The results indicated that there were significant differences between the two groups between the musical and visual cues. In particular, the ASD group demonstrated significantly less accurate recognition of the four emotions compared to the TD group. However, the emotion recognition of both groups was more accurate following the musical cues compared to the visual cues. Finally, for both groups, their greatest recognition accuracy was for happiness following the musical cues. In terms of the visual cues, the ASD group exhibited the greatest recognition accuracy for anger. This initial study support that musical cues can facilitate emotion recognition in children with ASD. Further research is needed to improve our understanding of the mechanisms involved in emotion recognition and the role of sensory cues play in emotion recognition for children with ASD.

Analysis of Medical Records of Korean Medicine based Psychotherapy (한방정신요법의 의안 분석)

  • Objectives The aim of this systemic review was to summarize medical records of Korean medicine based psychotherapy and investigate its therapeutic mechanism.Methods We searched articles on Korean neuropsychiatry in Korean databases. Subsequently, we selected and analyzed medical records on Korean medicine based-psychotherapy that met inclusion criteria.Results Fifty-five medical records were included. They were classified into the following 5 categories. Five minds mutual restriction therapy in 19 medical records; counseling and persuading therapy in 12 medical records; moving essence and changing Qi therapy in 10 medical records; Kyungjapyungji psychotherapy in 2 medical records; and suggestion psychotherapy in 11 medical records.Conclusions The results indicated that emotion is mainly used for cure. Buddhism affects Korean medicine based psychotherapy. Korean medicine based psychotherapy corresponds to western psychotherapy such as short-term dynamic psychotherapy (STDP), supportive psychotherapy, cognitive therapy, behavior therapy, and guided imagery.

Tonal Characteristics Based on Intonation Pattern of the Korean Emotion Words (감정단어 발화 시 억양 패턴을 반영한 멜로디 특성)

  • This study investigated the tonal characteristics in Korean emotion words by analyzing the pitch patterns transformed from word utterance. Participants were 30 women, ages 19-23. Each participant was instructed to talk about their emotional experiences using 4-syllable target words. A total of 180 utterances were analyzed in terms of the frequency of each syllable using the Praat. The data were transformed into meantones based on the semi-tone scale. When emotion words were used in the middle of a sentence, the pitch pattern was transformed to A3-A3-G3-G3 for '즐거워서(joyful)', C4-D4-B3-A3 for '행복해서(happy)', G3-A3-G3-G3 for '억울해서(resentful)', A3-A3-G3-A3 for '불안해서(anxious)', and C4-C4-A3-G3 for '침울해서(frustrated)'. When the emotion words were used at the end of a sentence, the pitch pattern was transformed to G4-G4-F4-F4 for '즐거워요(joyful)', D4-D4-A3-G3 for '행복해요(happy)', G3-G3-G3-A3 and F3-G3-E3-D3 for '억울해요(resentful)', A3-G3-F3-F3 for '불안해요(anxious)', and A3-A3-F3-F3 for '침울해요(frustrated)'. These results indicate the differences in pitch patterns depending on the conveyed emotions and the position of words in a sentence. This study presents the baseline data on the tonal characteristics of emotion words, thereby suggesting how pitch patterns could be utilized when creating a melody during songwriting for emotional expression.

An Approach of How to Use Psychotherapy for Sasang Constitutional Medicine (사상의학(四象醫學)에서 심리 치료를 활용하기 위한 방법론적 접근)

  • 1. Objectives It is necessary to find the psychological methods to treat not only physical but also mental problems. Because the Sasang Constitutional medicine is based on Mind-Body Medicine, so that the Nature and Emotion-Happiness, Anger, Sorrow, Pleasantness- have to be controlled properly. 2. Methods We analysed the characters of each constitutions, drama therapy and meditation and tried to find the suitable application of one for Sasangin. 3. Results and Conclusions Soeumin is feminine, easy to worry, pessimistic and non-active so they need to express their problems, be encouraged and participate to be one of a group having relationship with other people. Soyangin is out-going, easy to start, not enough to be aware of themselves so they need to relax, calm and try to have an insight into themselves. Taeumin is stable, easy to keep something so they need to communicate well with the exterior. Taeyangin is going forward, masculine and necessary to avoid being angry so they need to calm down and relax. Drama therapy is group work with actors, staffs and audiences so it is useful to express their negative feelings through motions, dances and sounds unless they talk. So it is supposed to be useful far Soeumin and Taeumin. And we can apply it to heal the Emotion because it is based on the relationship and the contact with other people. Meditation is helpful to not only concentrate, relax, have insight into themselves but also calm down anxiety, depression an anger. So it could be the best psychotherapy for Soyangin and Taeyangin. And we can apply it to reflect oneself alone to express their Nature adequately.

  • Nasucon lamp and Russian ones, which are coated with some special materials on the glass bulb, gave good clinical results for a cancer therapy. They are experimentally studied with Automatic Bioelectric Response Recorder on the six placements of the electrodes (two feet, two hands and two foreheads). They reduced the current rather than the control (natural) state. However infrared lamp and Chinese God light did not reduced the value current. Hemoglobin in blood. Brown gas, Ti$_3$SiC$_2$ and Nasucon have planar crystallizing $\pi$-bonding bonding layer and covalent bonding one in sequence commonly and thus the alternating magnetic fields are protected. Nasucon lamp and Russian ones utilized electric bulbs in order to generate alternating magnetic fields and to produce absorbing force.

Comparing Ruminative and Distracting Responses and Emotion Regulation Difficulties in Early Community Adolescents With and Without Self-Harm

  • Objectives: This study aimed to compare the demographic characteristics, responses to negative emotions, and difficulties in emotion regulation between self-harming adolescents and control individuals aged 12-14 years from the community. Methods: Data were collected from adolescents in Chungcheong Province, South Korea, between September 2021 and November 2022. Demographic characteristics and responses to the Depressed Mood Questionnaire and Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale-16 (DERS-16) were compared between the self-harm and control groups. Results: The self-harm group exhibited a higher prevalence of child abuse (odds ratio [OR]=4.787, 95% confidence interval [CI]=1.591-14.409, p=0.005) and school bullying victimization (OR=4.495, 95% CI=2.353-8.588, p<0.001) than those in the control group. The self-harm group displayed higher levels of rumination (t=7.88, p<0.001) and reduced distraction responses (reverse score t=2.25, p=0.025) than those of the control group. Additionally, the self-harm group scored higher on all subscales and the total DERS-16 score (t=7.61, p<0.001). Conclusion: Interventions for self-harming adolescents should address child abuse and bullying victimization. Prevention programs for self-harming adolescents should focus on reducing rumination responses, increasing distractive responses, and addressing difficulties in emotion regulation using dialectical behavior therapy-skill training.

Effects of a Happiness Choice Program Based on Reality Therapy on Subjective Well-being and Interpersonal Relations in Nursing Students (현실치료를 적용한 행복선택 프로그램이 간호대학생의 주관적 안녕감과 대인관계능력에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of a happiness choice program based on reality therapy on subjective well-being and interpersonal relations in nursing students. Methods: A nonequivalent control group pre-posttest design was used. The participants were 45 nursing students, 22 in the experimental group, and 23 in the control group. They were from 2 different colleges of nursing located in 2 regions. The happiness choice program based on reality therapy was held 6 times over 6 weeks, taking 120 minutes per session. Nursing students' subjective well-being and interpersonal relations were measured. SPSS 18.0 using the ${\chi}^2$-test, t-test, and paired t-test were used in data analysis. Results: Nursing students in the experimental group showed significantly higher life satisfaction (t=3.81, p<.001), positive emotion (t=2.09, p=.042), and interpersonal relations (t=4.11, p<.001), while significantly lower negative emotion (t=-2.59, p=.013). Conclusion: The findings of this study suggest that a happiness choice program based on reality therapy could be a useful intervention for improving subjective well-being and interpersonal relations of nursing students.

A Systematic Review of Group Art Therapy for Korean College Students: Articles Published in Korea

  • This study aimed to guide the practice of group art therapy among Korean college students through a systematic review. Therefore, 164 studies relevant to group art therapy for Korean undergraduate students published in Korea from January 2001 to June 2021 were selected. This systematic review included 46 publications based on the PICO standards. The author systematically reviewed the included studies, summarized the characteristics and therapy effectiveness, and analyzed the overall research trends. The primary findings were as follows: First, the number of publications on group art therapy among Korean college students has significantly increased. According to a review of group art therapy characteristics, the majority of studies enrolled 6-10 participants (32 studies, 66.7%), applied 6-10 sessions (23 studies, 47.9%), and had an intervention time for each session of 90 minutes (25 studies, 53.2%). Second, research outcomes of group art therapy among Korean college students were grouped into self-related, society-related, emotion-related, and career-related outcomes. Regarding career-related outcomes, all studies found that group art therapy had a statistically significant impact on career-related outcomes, particularly on the levels of career decision-making and maturity. Most studies suggested that group art therapy had a positive effect on self-related, society-related, and emotion-related outcomes, with 6 studies finding no statistically significant effect of group art therapy on college students. Third, the most effective intervention for college students was the media-based group art therapy. In particular, college students had the most effective performance in career-related outcomes. This study is significant in that it uses a systematic review to integrate and summarize research results on group art therapy among college students over the last 20 years. This study revealed that group art therapy could positively and effectively affect Korean college students. Based on this systematic review, we expect to practice and develop group art therapy in Chinese college students with comprehensive guidance and convincing data.

Qualitative Research on Fashion Product Shopping and Retail Therapy (패션제품 쇼핑을 통한 리테일 테라피 효과에 대한 질적 연구)

  • This study is to understand the inner psychological state of consumers who pursue a retail therapy effect through fashion product shopping. Qualitative research on the whole process from the point of time of occurrence of shopping motivation to the end of shopping motivation was performed. The researcher became a virtual shopping partner during shopping and conducted a natural conversation interview using a mobile instant messenger program (Kakao Talk). After shopping, participants were asked to write a diary on that day. Collected data were analyzed by applying the grounded theory approach suggested by Strauss and Corbin (1998). Casual Condition, represented everyday stress and Contextual Condition indicated the self-healing consumption trend. Main Phenomena showed a mood change during the fashion shopping process. The sense of emancipation from the place, the satisfaction from the maintenance of social relations, and the sense of accomplishment through purchases were revealed. Intervening Condition showed the consideration in the process of shopping for fashion products, such as providing a try-on experience, price promotion, and involvement of a companion. Action Interaction Strategy was the shopping behavior for the positive emotion increase and negative emotion decrease. Consequence represented a retail therapy in shopping for fashion products.
