Purpose : The purpose of this study is to identify the correlations between the ego-states of the 119 emergency medical technicians(119 EMTs) and the burnout and help them grow as a profession. Method : This is a descriptive study and the subjects of this study were 81 EMTs in 119 fire station in G City. This study tried to reveal the burnout in 119 EMTs in accordance with ego-state. Results : The highest score of 119 EMTs was the Nutrition Parent(NP) which showed $32.90{\pm}2.07$. The second highest was of the Critical Parent(CP), $31.95{\pm}2.79$. The Ego-gram profile of 119 EMTs was slope N type. The burnout was $78.90{\pm}13.19$, the physical burnout was highest($28.86{\pm}4.14$) in the low rank territory. The ego state according to level, the comparison of the degree of burnout, Free Child(FC) all but the type of ego-states burnout of the high groups appeared to be much higher. The correlations between their ego-states and the burnout of 119 EMTs appeared to be related to the 'plus(+)' correlation for the Free Child(FC ; r=0.243, p=0.029) and the Adapted Child(AC ; r=0.567, p=0.000), and CP, NP and Adult(A) appeared to be unrelated to the correlation. Results of the regression analysis show that the personal characteristic that has the biggest effect on the burnout of 119 EMTs was the AC(0.717), which seems to have a measurable effect on the statistics(p<0.01). Conclusion : Understanding the personality of 119 EMTs and its the application in the workforce will increase the human resources management system for the fire station officials.
Purpose : The purpose of this study was to verify the effects of academic self-efficacy on self-directed learning attitude of emergency medical students. Methods : A total of 209 emergency medical technology students filled out the questionnaire after receiving the informed consents. The questionnaire consisted of demographical characteristics, academic self-efficacy and self-directed learning attitude. Results : Academic self-efficacy and self-directed learning attitude of the subjects were above mean average. Higher correlations existed between academic self-efficacy and self-directed learning attitude of the subjects, and the significant positive correlations were found between sub-factors of the academic self-efficacy and self-directed learning attitude. The academic self-efficacy of the subjects had the significant influence on the self-directed learning, and self-efficacy. The self-confidence among sub-factors in the academic self-efficacy had a significant influence on self-directed learning attitude and sub-factors. Conclusion : The results of the study subjects of academic self-efficacy had a significant influence on the attitude of self-directed learning, In particular, self-efficacy and confidence of the academic self-efficacy sub-factors showed a significant impact on the sub-factors, attitudes and self-directed learning. This study will provide the basic data for the implementation of the educational programs. This will be effective in managing the knowledge, information, self-directed learning attitude and academic self-efficacy.
This study was to identify hardiness, social support, burnout which might influence burnout in emergency department nurses. Data were collected by self-reporting questionnaires from 115 nurses in 8 emergency department. Data analysis was done with SPSS/Win 21.0 program. Burnout showed significantly negative correlations with hardiness(r=-.390, p<.001), social support(r=-.400, p<.001) and hardiness showed significantly positive correlations with social support(r=.351, p<.001). As results, key factor was hardiness, social support, that continuing to work in emergency department, were significant predictors and accounted for 30.6%. Based on these results, burnout showed statistically significant differences depending on hardiness, social support and wanted department state. It is needed to develop a program in order to improve hardiness and social support of emergency department nurses.
Objectives: Emergency medical personnel (EMPs) are pre-hospital emergency responders who are at risk of exposure to infections and may also serve as a source for the transmission of infections. However, few studies of infection control have specifically addressed EMPs in the Republic of Korea (hereafter Korea). The goal of this study was to assess the current status of infection prevention and control programs (IPCPs) for EMPs in Korea. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted to quantitatively assess the resources and activities of IPCPs. A total of 907 EMPs in five metropolitan cities completed a structured questionnaire from September 2014 to January 2015. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, multi-response analysis, and the chi-square test. Results: The mean age of the participants was $34.8{\pm}15.1years$. IPCPs were found to have weaknesses with regard to the following resources: the assignment of infection control personnel (ICP) (79.5%), hand hygiene resources such as waterless antiseptics (79.3%), the use of paper towels (38.9%), personal protective equipment such as face shields (46.9%), and safety containers for sharps and a separated space for the disposal of infectious waste (10.1%). Likewise, the following activities were found to be inadequately incorporated into the workflow of EMPs: education about infection control (77.5%), post-exposure management (35.9%), and the decontamination of items and spaces after use (88.4%). ICP were found to have a significant effect on the resources and activities of IPCPs (p<0.001). The resources and activities of IPCPs were found to be significantly different among the five cities (p<0.001). Conclusions: IPCPs for EMPs showed some limitations in their resources and activities. IPCPs should be actively supported, and specific IPCP activities for EMPs should be developed.

Purpose: This study was performed to identify job competencies and needs for job education perceived by new community health practitioners. Methods: This study used a qualitative research design. Eight new community health practitioners participated in this study. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and analyzed using content analysis. Results: Five job competencies were identified in this study, including primary care, public health management, interpersonal relationship, teaching and counseling, and leadership. The contents of job education that they needed were management of major symptoms and chronic diseases, understanding and prescription of medications, emergency responses and care, management of endemic diseases, planning and management of public health programs, writing official documentsand computer works, and leadership training. The learning methods they preferred were connecting theory and practice, situation- or case-based learning, skill- or practice-based learning, and increased opportunities of clinical practice. Conclusion: The findings of this study provided the direction of job education for new community health practitioners. Job education for new community health practitioners needs to consider the job competencies and educational needs identified in this study.

Purpose: This study was done to identify the retention effects of a basic life support training program for nursing students on their attitude, knowledge, and skillfulness. Methods: A one-group repeated posttest design was employed for this study. The subjects included 44 junior nursing students from Gachon University in Incheon. Data were collected by a structured questionnaire test immediately after, 3 months after, 6 months after, and 9 months after the training respectively from May 2014 through March 2015. Results: The respective attitude, knowledge and skillfulness score on BLS of the nursing students had reduced significantly at 3 months after (p<.001), 6 months after (p<.001), and 9 months after (p<.001, p=.011 for Attitudes) the training compared to immediately after the training. Conclusion: Re-training on basic life support for nursing students should be implemented within 3 months for retention of educational effects. Thus, it is recommended that basic life support training programs, including a curriculum for nursing students, is developed to support re-training. And it is expected that the improved skills of nursing students on basic life support would contribute to the successive first aid nursing for patients at risk of cardiac arrest.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore and describe the factors related to new nurses' organizational socialization (OS) process and to find out the strategic information for successful organizational socialization. Methods: The qualitative data were gathered from three focus group discussions with 13 new nurses and 5 experienced nurses. All interviews were recorded and transcribed. The transcript analyzed according to qualitative content analysis processes. Results: The factors related to new nurses' OS derived from new nurses' focus groups were 'burdens related to the characteristics of nursing duties', 'emotional and psychological characteristics' and 'facilitating factors to OS'. Two factors at the forepart were interfering factors to new nurses' OS. The factors related to new nurses' OS derived from experienced nurses' focus group classified to 'facilitating factors to OS', 'interfering factors to OS' and 'supports to facilitate new nurses' OS process'. Conclusion: The findings of the study revealed the facilitating and interfering factors to organizational socialization of new nurses. The main factors to interfere new nurses' OS were individual factors such as professional incompetency and psychological characteristics. On the other hand, Interactional factors within the organization were important to facilitate new nurses' OS. The findings can be applied for developing a special program to help new nurses adjust to the nursing organization successfully.
Purpose: This retrospective study aimed to investigate nursing interventions in patients with severe thoracic injury in trauma bay of a regional trauma center. Methods: Of the 1,780 patients admitted to the trauma bay of a regional trauma center in a university hospital in the Gyeonggi Province between January 1, 2019 and December 31, 2019, 120 adult patients with severe thoracic injury who met the inclusion criteria were enrolled. Participants' clinical characteristics and nursing interventions were collected from electronic medical records after receiving ethical approval. Nursing interventions were classified using the terminology in the Nursing Intervention Classification. Results: The mean age of participants was 52.25 years and 72.5% of participants were male. The main areas of thoracic injury included lung parenchyma and pleura (95.8%). The mean Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) for thoracic injury was 3.13 and the mean Injury Severity Score (ISS) was 17.81. Fluid resuscitation, invasive hemodynamic monitoring, chest tube care, respiratory monitoring, artificial airway management, gastrointestinal tube care, mechanical ventilation management: airway insertion and stabilization, blood product administration, allergy management, and surgical preparation were performed significantly more frequently in thoracic injury patients with unstable vital signs or a higher AIS score. Conclusion: This study is significant as it investigated the types of nursing interventions given to patients with severe thoracic injury in the trauma bay. These results would contribute to developing more detailed educational materials for initial nursing interventions in trauma bay.
This study identified the perception and coping ability of an emergency involving the elderly for facility directors in charge of services in long-term care facilities, and used it as basic data for developing educational programs and policy data for improving the ability of emergency facilities. The subjects were 192 directors of elderly care facilities and home care centers. Data were collected from March 15 to April 20, 2019 and analyzed using the SPSS WIN 25.0 program. Data analysis was performed using t-test, One-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, Scheffe, and multiple linear regression. The results revealed 97.4% of emergency experience, 6.16 points of emergency perception, and 62% of correct answers, and coping ability of an emergency was 69.61 ± 13.537. The negative correlation between emergency experience and ability to cope with emergencies(r=-.202, p= .005) was the long-term care facility type(β = 8.253, p<.001). Overall, an education program considering the type of long-term care facility is needed when applying emergency education for facility directors.

Automated blood pressure monitors have gained acceptance in many clinical settings with the increasing demand, the accurate BP measuring devices reguire the need for validation. We have evaluated the Dinamap 8100, an oscillometric automated blood pressure monitor, using the Mercury sphygmomanometer as a reference. Comparison of sphygmomanometers was conducted 60 patients (30-Normotensive group, 30-Hypertensive group at Seoul National University Hospital. Two trained observers took measure blood pressure(systolic/diastolic) at the same time using the Dinamap 8100 on one arm and the Mercury on the other. For each measurement, the device was randomly selected from a group of devices repetively used for the experiment. Mean readings for systolic pressure with the Dinamap 8100 in normotensive group were lower(mean difference ; 4.26mmHg) than the Mercury type. Mean readings for systolic pressure with the Dinamap 8100 in hypertensive group were lower(mean difference ; 9.05mmHg) than the Mercury type. Mean readings for diastolic pressure with the Dinamap 8100 in normotensive group were lower (mean difference ; 7.46mmHg) than the Mercury type. Mean readings for diastolic pressure with the Dinamap 8100 in hypertensive group were lower(mean difference ; 9.03mmHg) than the Mercury type. We have found that blood pressure readings with the Dinamap 8100 were lower than those with the Mercury type. we are using the Mercury type in clinics, although it has observer bias and terminal digit preference. But the Dinamap 8100 is readily portable, simple to use, and capable of preventing observer bias and terminal digit preference. The Dinamap 8100 is acceptable for blood pressure determination in subjects who are normotensive or hypertensive ones.
