이중 주파수 지원 절삭으로 가공된 타원형 딤플의 특성 (Characterization of Elliptical Dimple Fabricated with Dual Frequency Vibration Assisted Machining)

  • Surface texturing is a promising route to reduce the friction forces between two surfaces in sliding contact. To this end, the fabrication of micro dimples is one of the most widely used surface texturing methods. According to published results, textured surfaces with elliptical micro dimples offer the best friction performance. Therefore, we fabricated elliptical micro dimples on carbon steel (SM45C) by using dual frequency vibration assisted machining. High and low frequencies of 16.3 kHz and 230 Hz were applied to the 3D resonant elliptical vibrator. The 3D resonant elliptical vibrator with a triangular cubic boron nitride insert was assembled on a computer numerically controlled turning lathe. Oval micro dimples of various profiles were manufactured on carbon steel. In terms of the profile of the elliptical micro dimples, the experimental results indicated that the average micro dimple width and depth were 112 ㎛ and 7.7 ㎛. These dimensions are closely related to the cutting conditions and can be easily controlled.

  • An elliptical ogive head for a generic missile is proposed to reduce its detectable probability from a ground defense radar. Numerical RCS results of a generic missile with an elliptical ogive head are evaluated using the GTD/UTD (Geometrical Theory of Diffraction/Uniform GTD). The results are compared with those of a cylindrical ogive head. In the sense of aerodynamics, the Performance evaluation of an elliptical ogive head for a generic missile should be followed.

  • An ultrasonic linear motor was composed of a slider and a stator vibrator including piezoelectric material and elastic material. The ultrasonic linear motors mainly consist of an ultrasonic oscillator which generates elliptical oscillations. Elliptical oscillations are generated by synthesizing two degenerated modes. Direction of vibratory displacement was analyzed by employing the finite element method. So, we could recognize that the direction of the slider's movement was controlled by changing the Phase difference of the drive voltage.

타원판에 의한 자력 및 자력 변화율 텐서 반응식 (Expressions of Magnetic Field and Magnetic Gradient Tensor due to an Elliptical Disk)

  • 이 논문에서는 타원판의 자력과 자력 변화율 텐서 반응식을 유도하였다. 화성암 관입이나 킴벌라이트 구조 등은 축 대칭성을 가지면서 단면이 타원인 경우가 많다. 타원 단면의 넓이가 변하는 타원 기둥은 타원판의 조합으로 모사할 수 있다. 타원판의 자력 반응은 이전 논문(Rim, 2024)에서 유도한 중력 변화율 텐서에 자화 방향에 대한 정보를 포함시킨 포아송 관계식을 이용하여 유도하였다. 타원판의 자력 변화율 텐서는 벡터 자력을 미분하여 유도하는데 타원판의 인력 퍼텐셜을 각 축방향으로 3회 미분한 총 10개의 삼중 미분 함수를 구하는 것과 동일하다. 미분의 순서는 바꾸는 것이 가능하므로 결과적으로 자력 변화율 텐서는 타원판의 인력 퍼텐셜을 3회 미분한 후, 복소 평면에서 타원판의 경계를 폐곡선으로 하는 경로를 따라 선적분으로 변환하여 유도된다. 이 논문에서 복소 평면에서 선적분으로 유도한 자력 및 자력 변화율 텐서 반응식은 립쉬츠-한켈 적분으로 유도한 원판의 자력 및 자력 변화율 텐서 반응식과 완벽하게 일치함을 보였다.

반타원 표면균열 선단을 따른 참조응력 기반의 J-적분 예측 (Reference Stress Based J-Integral Estimates Along the Semi-Elliptical Surface Crack Front)

  • This paper discusses applicability of the enhanced reference stress method to estimate J-integral along the semi-elliptical surface crack front. It is found that angular variations of normalized J­integral are strongly dependent on the geometry, loading mode and loading magnitude. As application of the reference stress approach to semi-elliptical surface cracks implies proportional increases in the normalized J-integral, the present results pose a question in applicability of the reference stress approach. However, investigation of the error in the estimated J-integral in the present work suggests that the enhanced reference stress approach, recently proposed by authors, provides an effective engineering tool fur estimating crack driving force along the semi-elliptical surface crack front.

  • For precise micro-grooving and surface machining, ultrasonic cyclic elliptical cutting is proposed using two parallel piezoelectric actuators. The piezoelectric actuators are energized by sinusoidal voltages of varying phase which is essenstial to generating elliptical cutting. Experimental setup is composed of ultrasonic motor, single crystal diamond cutting tool, and precise motorized xyz stage. It is confirmed experimentally that the cutting performance, in terms of the cutting force, the burr formation, and the discontinuous chip formation is improved remarkably by applying ultrasonic elliptical vibration cutting.

축직각 표면타원균열이 존재하는 매설배관의 축방향응력에대한 건전성 평가 (Reliability Assessment of Buried Pipelines with a Circumferential Surface Elliptical Crack under Axial Stress)

  • The theoretical analyses for stresses induced in axial direction in the buried pipelines are reviewed. The influences of the axially directed stresses on the surface elliptical crack are studied in detail and thus some engineering technical informations are provided to use reliability assessment of buried pipelines. The change in temperature, the effect of inner pressure and soil friction in the buried pipeline constrained in axial direction are included to determine the axial stresses in the buried pipeline. Furthermore, the stress induced by the pipeline bending are also considered. The stress intensity factors calculated by two models such as a simple plane crack and an elliptical surface crack for a circumferential surface elliptical crack are compared.

  • Continuously variable transmission (CVT) of toroidal type has a elliptical shape of contact zone under the elastohydrodynamic lubrication (EHL) condition, where the power is transmitted only by shearing the lubricant. Due to the small contact area of elliptical shape, the traction of the shear behaviors of lubricant over the contact zone is under extremely high contact pressure over 1.0GPa. During the power transmission by shearing the fluid, many kinds of mechanical movements occur such as squeezing, sliding, rolling and spin. Among the movements, the spin effect that is the most undesirable contact behavior in transmitting the power frequently makes significant abnormal wear damage. In this work, the analysis of elliptical contact of EHL with spin effect is performed, which will give very useful information to understand the traction behaviors in toroidal type of CVT system.

Axial compressive behaviour of stub concrete-filled columns with elliptical stainless steel hollow sections

  • This paper presents the axial compressive behaviour of stub concrete-filled columns with elliptical stainless steel and carbon steel hollow sections. The finite element method developed via ABAQUS/Standard solver was used to carry out the simulations. The accuracy of the FE modelling and the proposed confined concrete stress-strain model were verified against experimental results. A parametric study on stub concrete-filled columns with various elliptical hollow sections made with stainless steel and carbon steel was conducted. The comparisons and analyses presented in this paper outline the effect of hollow sectional configurations to the axial compressive behaviour of elliptical concrete-filled steel tubular columns, especially the merits of using stainless steel hollow sections is highlighted.
