초등학교 과학 교과서 과학 탐구 활동의 지식정보처리역량 요소 분석 (Scientific Inquiry Activity of Elementary Science Textbook Analysis Based on Knowledge Information Processing Competence Elements)

  • 이 연구에서는 초등학교 3~6학년 과학 교과서 과학 탐구 활동에 나타난 지식정보처리역량 요소를 알아보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 지식정보처리역량의 구성 요소를 추출하였고, 지식정보처리역량 분석틀을 구안하였다. 초등학교 3~6학년 과학 교과서 8권을 분석 틀로 분석하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 첫째, 지식정보처리역량은 '수집', '분석', '조직', '선택', '평가'의 5가지 요소로 정리할 수 있다. 둘째, 초등학교 과학 교과서의 과학 탐구 활동의 지식정보처리역량의 요소는 고르게 구성되지 않았다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 초등학교 과학 교과서의 과학 탐구 활동은 지식정보처리역량 5가지 요소 중 '수집', '분석'에 치우쳐 있었으며, '조직', '선택', '평가' 순으로 나타났다. 이상의 결과들로부터 초등학교 과학 교과에서 지식정보처리역량을 기르기 위한 과학 탐구 모형이나 과학 수업 모형이 필요함을 알 수 있었다.

인포그래픽을 중심으로 살펴본 초등 과학교과서 시각화 자료의 유형과 역할 (Types and Roles of Visualization Materials in Elementary Science Textbook focusing on Infographics)

  • The visualization materials in science textbooks are very important in students' learning. Recent visualizations are increasingly emphasizing the importance of infographic visualizations. The purpose of this study is to analyze the visualization materials in $5^{th}$ and $6^{th}$ elementary science textbook focusing on infographics. Visualization materials were classified into infographic and simple illustration. Infographics were classified into 8 sub-types. Findings are as follows. First, infographics were 19.0%, and simple illustrations were 81.0% among elementary textbooks' visualization materials. The portion of infographic varied by content areas. In Biology and Earth Science area, the portions of infographic were high. Second, several types of infographics were used in elementary science textbooks. Timeline infographic were the most frequent, and emphasis infographic, concept mapping infographic, comparison infographic were used frequently. The most frequent types of infographic were different by content area. Third, infographics used more than simple illustrations in the role of concept explanation. Educational implications on science textbook's infographics were discussed.

제6차와 7차 초등학교 과학 교과서에 제시된 비유 비교분석 (A Comparative Analysis of Analogies in Elementary Science Textbook by the 6th and 7th Curriculum)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the analogies used in elementary science textbooks. For this, the analogies were classified into the following criteria : analogy-related contents included in elementary science text-books, types of representation style, and the role of analogy. The results of this study were as follows : the total of analogies was 154 in the 6th and 166 in the 7th curriculum. Most of them were expressed in textbooks and experimental texts. More structural/functional, verbal/pictorial, concrete/concrete, concrete/abstract, simple and enriched analogies were included in the science textbooks of the 7th than those of the 6th. Most of them took the role as an aid to understanding. According to the domain of science content, energy, material, life domains were increased in the 7th than the 6th, with the exception of the earth science domain. The ratio of used analogies in the life domain was higher than the others, and in the material domain it was the lowest. From these results, it can be said that, in order to help students' understanding, further research into the application of analogies is needed.

2007 개정 교육과정에 의한 초등학교 과학과 교과용 도서의 삽화에 나타난 성역할 고정관념 분석 (An Analysis for Gender-Role Stereotyping of Illustrations in Elementary Science Textbooks Developed under 2007 Revised National Curriculum)

  • In this study, the illustrations in 16 elementary science textbooks developed under the 2007 Revised National Curriculum were analyzed in the aspect of gender-role stereotyping, and the results were compared with those of the 7th National Curriculum. The frequencies of male and female who appeared on textbook illustrations were counted, and the types of activities and the characters of them were analyzed. Most pupils were found to be active, and female pupils appearing in the textbooks were more than male pupils. In all types of activities for pupils, the difference between male and female was decreased compared with that of the 7th National Curriculum. Male and female pupils were illustrated in learning activities with almost equal frequencies, but male pupils were still more frequently represented than female pupils in other activities. Gender difference in adults was increased and the difference was statistically significant. Gender difference in houseworks was not large, but the difference in outdoor activities was statistically significant. Especially, the jobs of adults were illustrated as male-centered, and scientists appearing in the textbook illustrations were also mostly male.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate elementary school teachers', students' and their parents' perceptions of new experimental grade $3{\sim}4$ science textbooks and teacher's guides developed by revised national science curriculum. 63 teachers, 436 students and their 448 parents were selected from 9 elementary schools selected as model schools, and were administered the questionnaires of the perceptions of the new science textbooks and/or teacher's guides. The results revealed that many teachers had a rather positive perception of the teacher's guides. In addition, most of the teachers, students and their parents, especially the students and their parents than the teachers, perceived positively the new science textbooks. They also had various views of the strengths and weaknesses of the new science textbooks and/or teacher's guides upon cognitive and motivational/emotional/affective aspects. Educational implications of these findings are discussed.

Analysis of the oral health unit of elementary school health textbooks

  • Objectives: This study aimed to analyze the textbook content, specifically that of the oral health units, of Korean elementary health textbooks in order to discuss oral health education in elementary schools through textbooks. Methods: The study analyzed the "oral health" units of six health textbooks for students in the fifth and sixth grades of elementary school in Korea. It identified the number of pictures, practice contents, and summaries in the textbooks, calculating the proportion of oral health units relative to the total number of pages in the textbook and comparing the learning goals provided by the WHO with the education contents. In addition, the study also analyzed several keywords from the textbooks in terms of whether they relate to oral health. Results: The comprehensive analysis on the oral health units within the three health textbooks analyzed revealed that all three were similar, except that the textbook from publisher A did not include an introduction. The three textbooks also had differences in terms of the organization of the contents. In terms of the learning goals of the oral health units, there were differences between the WHO standards and the learning goals from the textbooks, with the WHO standards only partially reflected. The analysis also showed that there were more keywords on oral diseases than those related to oral health management and prevention. Conclusions: Improvements should be made regarding the learning goals and education topics of health education in order to ensure that children receive a more systematic oral health education in their earlier years, which will help to develop and correct oral health management habits among elementary school students.

초등학교 $3{\sim}6$학년 과학 교과서의 질문 방략 분석 (Analysis of Questioning Strategies of Elementary $3rd{\sim}6th$ Science Textbooks)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the questioning styles of $3rd{\sim}6th$ elementary science textbooks in terms of frequency, type, and placement of questions. This paper also sought to analyse and compare the kinds of scientific inquiry processes elicited by the questions in the content domains of textbooks. The instrument used was the Textbook Questioning Strategies Assessment Instrument (TQSAI). The average number of questions per book was 129 and the ratio of questions to sentences was 31.9%. The results were summarized as followings. First, many science textbook questions were used for the purposes of explanation or identifying levels of teaming. Second, process skills were located in each content domain, although it was not affected meaningfully. Third, the number of text question was below 3 in each elementary science class. Therefore, an effective questioning development framework is clearly needed for elementary science instruction.

  • 이 연구에서는 물의 상태와 상태 변화를 중심으로 유치원, 초등, 중등 과학 교재의 탐구능력 전개 과정의 연계성을 고찰해 보고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 유치원 제 5차 교육과정 교재들과 제 6차 교육과정에 근거한 초등학교 자연 고과서와 중학교 과학 교과서를 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 유아, 초등, 중등 과학 교육과정의 연계성 측면에서 볼 때, 모든 학년에서 예상, 분류, 가설설정, 실험 설계 등의 탐구능력이 부족한 것으로 나타났다. 또한 측정 능력은 이론적으로 초등학교 저학년부터 가질 수 있음에도 불구하고, 고학년 이상에서만 제시되었다.

초등학교 자연 교과서의 삽화 분석 (The illustration Analysis of the Elementary Science Textbooks)

  • This study was intended to suggest the desirable direction in the 7th national curriculum revision through the illustration analysis of the elementary science textbooks in the 6th national curriculum. The analysis system was composed of two categories, (1)the kind of illustrations (2)the .ole of illustrations The kind of illustrations was divided into five subcategories such as photograph, pictures, illustrations, cartoons and diagrams. And the role of illustrations was divided into four subcategories such as motive induction, guidance for experimentation, the presentation of data and the results of experimentation. Each sentence in the textbooks was considered as an analyzing units. The frequency and percentage of each category were counted and the rates were calculated. The findings could be summarized as follows: 1. The illustration in the primary science textbooks was mostly composed of photographs (87.1%). 2. The examination of the role of illustrations showed that the presentation of data was 46.2%, the guidance for experimentation 38.4%, the results of experimentation 8.6% and the motive induction 6.8% respectively. 3. In the domains of physical and chemical science, the role of guidance for experimentation was emphasized. But the biological and earth science domains showed high tendency of the presentation of data.

초.중.고 과학교과서에 나타난 농업.농촌 다원적 기능 교육 내용 분석 (Content Analysis on Rural Multi-Functionality published in Science Textbooks of Elementary.Middle.High School)

  • The objective of this study is to promote alternative plans on the prejudiced and distorted contents in school textbooks in the aspect of multi-functionality of agriculture and rural community. This was done through analysis of contents in 47 kinds of textbooks in science (8 of elementary school, 27 of middle school and 12 of high school). This will lead to promote understanding about the multi-functionality and form the proper value system related to agriculture and rural community for children and juveniles using textbooks. A content analysis was employed to examine to what extent the contents on agriculture and rural community were reflected in the textbooks for elementary school, middle school and high school. The content analysis was done in three categories, including presentation form, application method and function view. The followings are results of contents analysis in textbooks. The most frequently used presentation forms related to agriculture and rural community was figures and tables. In analysis of application methods, this research found that the contents related to agriculture and rural community were used to explain scientific facts and phenomena. In the function view, maintenance of local societies was most frequent among the various multi-functionalities in elementary and middle school, and food security in high school. Based on the results of content analysis, findings and recommendations in textbooks for elementary, middle and high school have been drawn, and several examples for contents development to be included in the textbooks were listed.
