  • This study analyzed in what ways the instructional materials have been dealing with the fraction as quotient, since the seventh national mathematics curriculum. An analysis of this study urged us to re-consider the content related to the fraction as quotient. First, the fraction as quotient has weakened in the current mathematics textbooks and workbooks in comparison to those developed under the previous curriculum. Second, the contexts of whole number division taught in grades 3 and 4 were not naturally connected to those of the fraction as quotient taught in grade 5. Third, the types of word problems, visual models, and partitioning strategies in the textbooks and the workbooks were partial, and the process of formalization was limited. Building on these results, this study is expected to suggest specific implications which may be taken into account in developing new instructional materials in process.

  • Our research participants were composed of health teachers exhausted by the COVID-19 pandemic. This study analyzed the attitudes towards image-making through utilizing the job training at Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education on August 2022, where our study was able to obtain and analyze 30 elementary, middle, and high school health teachers who participated. Image making is defined as playing a role in increasing self-esteem through outward appearances such as facial expressions and posture, personal color, makeup, tone, hairstyling, and fashion and impacting individuals inwardly to increase self-confidence. Therefore, there is a positive impact in providing an image-making program that considers the occupational characteristics of a health teacher. It had the effect of stress relief and aided in building a healthier self-image among the participants. The results our study showed the following results. First, all participants had various concerns regarding their appearance and deemed that image-making was necessary, yet they needed to be more informed regarding the specific methods of doing so. Secondly, participants were mainly focused on purchasing makeup products for image making. Although participants showed interest in a personal color diagnosis, there needed to be more support in approaching the subject as the diagnosis was necessary from an expert. Third, participants stated that image-making should occur for their middle-aged selves when experienced in the field. Participants believed that they would be more concerned with how others viewed them after gaining expertise. Hence, this study found that the occupational characteristics of health teachers greatly benefitted from image-making programs oriented to their careers and would also show an increase in job satisfaction.

  • The risk of electromagnetic field(EMF) from power lines has been heavily disputed whenever high-voltage power line towers were built in South Korea. Local communities and civic groups had regarded burying the lines in the ground as an alternative to building power line towers. In 2014, however, when an elementary school science teacher reported the results of EMF measurements over the underground power lines to the Asian Citizens' Center for Environment and Health (ACCEH), the risk controversy over underground power lines took a whole new turn. The level of EMF from underground power lines turned out to be higher, and therefore more harmful than that from power line towers. In the debates that took place from then on over the EMF risk, ACCEH and NIER(National Institute of Environmental Research) presented conflicting topographies of EMF risk. This paper examines measuring practices of ACCEH and NIER by analyzing the measuring sites, measuring devices, and measuring heights chosen by each organization. This paper further examines how ACCEH and NIER mobilized various standards(EMF exposure limit, measurement guideline, categorization of carcinogens) differently. This controversy on the EMF from underground power lines of Seoul has raised concerns on the non-thermal effects of EMF in the long-term exposure and has led people to question whether burying the power lines is the safe alternative to building power line towers. Furthermore, this suggests conflicting answers on whether Seoul, where 90 % of transmission lines were already buried, is a safely managed place or not.

  • To be good at numeration is an important matter in learning mathematics. Unlike the 6-th curriculum, integers are introduced in middle school curriculum for the first time in the 7-th curriculum. Therefore, to help the students team integers systematically and thoroughly, it is necessary that we allow more space for process of introduction, process of operations and practice of operations in the 7-th curriculum text book than that of 6-th curriculum text book. As specific and systemic visualized teaching of operation is especially important in building the concept of operation, by using visualized teaching methods, students can understand the process of operation more fully and systematically. Moreover, students become proficient in operation of positive number and negative numbers by expending this learning process of operations to the operations used absolute value. In 7-th grade mathematics, the expression of positive numbers and negative numbers visually are useful for understanding of operations for numbers. But it is not easy to do so. In this paper we use arrows(directed segments) to express positive numbers and negative numbers visually and apply them to perform the operations for numbers. Using arrows, we can extend the method used in elementary school mathematics to the methods for operations of positive numbers and negative number in 7-th grade mathematics. By experiments, we can know that such processes of introduction for operations are effective and this way helps teachers teach and students learn.
