  • This paper deals with the analysis for column shortening of RC frame structure considering the construction sequences. The time-dependent effects of concrete are taken into consideration in this study to simulate the actual structural behavior. The stiffness matrix of a beam element is derived on the bases of the layer approach, dividing a section with imaginary layers. Creep and shrinkage strains at each layer are calculated by using the first-order algorithm based on the expansion of creep compliance. Finally, the correlation studies with the purpose of analyzing the time-dependent behavior of building structure are conducted using the analytical model proposed in this study.

  • In this research, a numerical algorithm has been developed, which can be applied to the large deformation and large displacement contact problems between two deformable bodies. The contact conditions expressed in terms of the rate of angle change have been proposed considering the change in geometric shape and rate of contact force. A set of linear simultaneous equations is constructed by adding the geometric shape change and contact conditions to the original stiffness matrix. A new method to determine time increment has been proposed based on Euler method, in which the condition to prevent the contact bodies from penetrating and overrunning each other has been taken into consideration. Practical application to contact problem is extrusion in which bodies are sliding along the contact boundary.

  • This paper discusses the theoretical researches subject to elastic buckling problems of the structures. The purpose is to ensure the characteristic of buckling be true by arc-length method and the finite element method. The difficulties in processes calculating the equilibrium curve after buckling is to get the equilibrium owe near singular point at which the determinant of stiffness matrix is zero. The purpose of the load-displacement curve is to determine the buckling load of the structure, and further to get the information about the characteristic after buckling. Here, this paper expresses the incremental solution at particular point by the linear combination of both homogeneous mode and particular mode, then uses the method which gets the unknown parameter including this function, through trial-and-error method including modified N-R convergence process. Finally, this paper describes the multiple bifurcation of truss dome as the numerical examples according to this algorithm.

  • In this study, semi-rigid light-weight framed structures analysis model (SERIFS) was developed by advancing the LEIFS model. This model enables us to analyze simultaneous effects of large deflection and semi-rigid connection by computing unbalanced load occurring in the process of repeated loading through equalization of bending moments and torsion. This model is also able to handle the effect of the semi-rigid connection and large deflection by modifying the elastic stiffness matrix using moment-rotation behavior of connection. Moment-rotation behavior of the semi-rigid connection was adopted from the experimental results of load-vertical displacement of frame element In conclusion, this model achieves to analyze the nonlinear and large deflection behavior on the semi-rigid and light-weight steel frame connection.

  • A modified skyline algorithm suitable for C language in this paper. The modified algorithm improves the computational efficiency and the structure of the program. Substantial reduction of execution time is achieved by simplifying assemblage and decomposition of the stiffness matrix. A source program is also provided for use in future development of finite element softwares.

  • The stochastic analysis of semi-infinite domain is presented using the weighted integral method, which is improved to include the higher order terms in expanding the displacement vector. To improve the weighted integral method, the Lagrangian remainder is taken into account in the expansion of the status variable with respect to the mean value of the random variables. In the resulting formulae only the 'proportionality coefficients' are introduced in the resulting equation, therefore no additional computation time and memory requirement is needed. The equations are applied in analyzing the semi-infinite domain. The results obtained by the improved weighted integral method are reasonable and are in good agreement with those of the Monte Carlo simulation. To model the semi-infinite domain, the Bettess's infinite element is adopted, where the theoretical decomposition of the strain-displacement matrix to calculate the deviatoric stiffness of the semi-infinite domains is introduced. The calculated value of mean and the covariance of the displacement are revealed to be larger than those given by the finite domain assumptions which is thought to be rational and should be considered in the design of structures on semi-infinite domains.

  • An incremental Total Lagrangian Formulation is implemented for the finite element analysis of laminated composite pressure vessel with consideration of the material and geometric nonlinearities. For large displacements/large rotations due to geometric nonlinearities, the incremental equations are derived using a quadratic approximation for the increment of the reference vectors in terms of the nodal rotation increments. This approach leads to a complete tangent stiffness matrix. For material nonlinearity, the analysis is performed by using the piecewise linear method, taking account of the nonlinear shear stress-strain relation. The results of numerical tests include the large deflection behavior of the selected composite shell problem. When compared with the previous analysis, tile results are in good agreement with them. As a practical example, filament wound pressure vessel is analyzed with consideration of the geometrically and materially nonlinearity. The numerical results agree fairly well with the existing experimental results.

  • A finite element model with the consideration of damage initiation and evolution has been developed for the analysis of the dynamic response of a composite sandwich panel subject to low velocity impact. Typical damage modes including fiber breakage, matrix crushing and cracking, delamination and core crushing are considered in this model. Strain-based Hashin failure criteria with stiffness degradation mechanism are used in predicting the initiation and evolution of intra-laminar damage modes by self-developed VUMAT subroutine. Zero-thickness cohesive elements are adopted along the interface regions between the facesheets and the foam core to simulate the initiation and propagation of delamination. A crushable foam core model with volumetric hardening rule is used to simulate the mechanical behavior of foam core material at the plastic state. The time history curves of contact force and the core collapse area are obtained. They all show a good correlation with the experimental data.
