  • Availability, awareness and use of electronic resources provide access to authoritative, reliable, accurate and timely access to information. The use of electronic information resources (EIRs) can enable innovation in teaching and increase timeliness in research of postgraduate students which will eventual result into encouragement of the expected research-led enquiry in this digital age. The study adopted a descriptive survey design. Samples of 300 of postgraduate students within seven out 13 Faculties were randomly selected. Data were collected using questionnaire designed to elicit response from respondents and data were analyzed using descriptive statistics methods percentages, mean, and standard deviation. Results indicated that internet was ranked most available and used in the university. Low level of usage of electronic resources, in particular, full texts data bases is linked to a number of constraints: Interrupted power supply was ranked highest among other factors as speed and capacity of computers, retrieval of records with high recall and low precision, retrieving records relevant to information need, lack of knowledge of search techniques to retrieve information effectively, non possession of requisite IT skills and problems accessing the internet. The study recommended that usage of electronic resources be made compulsory, intensifying awareness campaigns concerning the availability, training on use of electronic resources and the problem of power outage be addressed.

  • This paper intends to describe the concepts and historical development of information resources in the digital library, to analyze the different types and characteristics of electronic information resources, and to comment the cases of electronic information resources-especially electronic books, electronic journals, and electronic newspapers. Over the centuries, since the introduction of the printing press, conventional books have played a fundamental role in a wide range of information dissemination and knowledge transfer activities. But, I have mentioned some of limitations of conventional books and electronic information resources in this article. In order to overcome some of them, I think that we should introduce the idea of electronic information resources as a means of storing, sharing and communicating large volumes of dynamic multimedia information.

  • Lately, most of the libraries subscribe electronic resources such as e-journals, under the license contracts for the access and use of these electronic resources. It was found that the management of licensed electronic resources in the library has become one of the major problems due to the lack of proper metadata elements in the existing management system of electronic resources. The purpose of the study is to establish metadata for licensed electronic resources.

  • With the changes in information production and transaction, the ratio of electronic resources in library collection is increasing. Statistical date on usage of electronic resources is an important indicator for library management and development of information service. This study analyzed current state of global standards of usage statistics, and definition and features on electronic resources. It also provides current states of usage statistics data on electronic resources applied by major vendors and publishers. Based on the results of the study, this study proposed the methods to apply statistical data on usage of electronic resources to library management and development of information service.

  • This study attempts to investigate the current practice of electronic resources in the academic libraries and to explore the changes of paradigm in the organization of information. It reviewed how academic libraries have acquired and organized electronic resources. It also investigated the library home pages of 30 academic libraries in order to identify the category of electronic resources, metadata, and linkage methods with various material types such as printed resources and theses. To perform extended functions of library catalogs, it is essential for academic libraries to manage the metadata of various resources together and provide enhanced access and linkage of related resources.

  • This paper aims to improve the KCR and KORMARC for the cataloging electronic resources. In this study, therefore, at first the characteristics and kinds of electronic resources were examined as the backgrounds. Then the cataloging rules (AACR2R NCR1994, ISBD(ER) and KORMARC Descriptive Rule) and the MARC formats (MARC21, OCLC-MARC and KORMARC) were analyzed. Finally, the improvements of KCR and KORMARC for the cataloging electronic resources were suggested.

  • The explosion in the number of electronic resources has necessitated that academic libraries rethink the way they manage the life cycle of their electronic resources within the structure and processes of their library. With this momentum, led by the Digital Library Federation's Electronic Resources Management Initiative, specifications and tools for electronic resources has been devised. This study surveys the terrain of electronic resource management as viewed through the current development of ERM Systems and their adaptations into major academic libraries in the United States. For this, we tried to report how such tools are implemented with various additional modules. The potential of the module to integrate the management of its electronic resources into the new process has been suggested, as well.
