Photoelectrochemical (PEC) systems are promising methods of producing H2 gas using solar energy in an aqueous solution. The photoelectrochemical properties of numerous metal oxides have been studied. Among them, the PEC systems based on TiO2 have been extensively studied. However, the drawback of a PEC system with TiO2 is that only ultraviolet (UV) light can be absorbed because of its large band gap (3.2 - 3.4 eV). Two approaches have been introduced in order to use PEC cells in the visible light region. The first method includes doping impurities, such as nitrogen, into TiO2, and this technique has been extensively studied in an attempt to narrow the band gap. In comparison, research on the second method, which includes visible light water splitting in molecular photosystems, has been slow. Mallouk et al. recently developed electrochemical water-splitting cells using the Ru(II) complex as the visible light photosensitizer. the dye-sensitized PEC cell consisted of a dye-sensitized TiO2 layer, a Pt counter electrode, and an aqueous solution between them. Under a visible light (< 3 eV) illumination, only the dye molecule absorbed the light and became excited because TiO2 had the wide band gap. The light absorption of the dye was followed by the transfer of an electron from the excited state (S*) of the dye to the conduction band (CB) of TiO2 and its subsequent transfer to the transparent conducting oxide (TCO). The electrons moved through the wire to the Pt, where the water reduction (or H2 evolution) occurred. The oxidized dye molecules caused the water oxidation because their HOMO level was below the H2O/O2 level. Organic dyes have been developed as metal-free alternatives to the Ru(II) complexes because of their tunable optical and electronic properties and low-cost manufacturing. Recently, organic dye molecules containing multi-branched, multi-anchoring groups have received a great deal of interest. In this work, tri-branched tri-anchoring organic dyes (Dye 2) were designed and applied to visible light water-splitting cells based on dye-sensitized TiO2 electrodes. Dye 2 had a molecular structure containing one donor (D) and three acceptor (A) groups, and each ended with an anchoring functionality. In comparison, mono-anchoring dyes (Dye 1) were also synthesized. The PEC response of the Dye 2-sensitized TiO2 film was much better than the Dye 1-sensitized or unsensitized TiO2 films.

To develop the bright-vivid red- and yellow-inorganic fluorescent pigments with high luminescence properties, A3V5O14 (A = K and Rb) and Cs2V4O11 inorganic pigments were synthesized by a water assisted solid state reaction (WASSR) method and a conventional solid state reaction method. Although impurity peaks corresponding to the AVO3 and AV3O8 (A = K, Rb, and Cs) were observed in all samples prepared, the trigonal structure A3V5O14 (A = K and Rb) and orthorhombic structure Cs2V4O11 were successfully obtained as a main phase. These inorganic pigments showed the broad absorption band (under 550 nm) originated from CT transitions of VO4 polyhedron, and the strong broad red- and green-emission bands due to 3T2 → 1A1 and 3T1 → 1A1 transitions of the [VO4]3- group. The A3V5O14 (A = K and Rb) and Cs2V4O11 pigments showed a bright-vivid red- and yellow-body color, where the a* values of the A3V5O14 (A = K and Rb) were +35.5 and +45.9, respectively, and b* value of Cs2V4O11 pigments was +50.3. The L* values of the A3V5O14 (A = K and Rb) and Cs2V4O11 inorganic pigments were over +45. These results indicate that the A3V5O14 (A = K and Rb) and Cs2V4O11 inorganic pigments could be an attractive candidate as a bright-vivid red- and yellow inorganic pigments.

The APD (Antenna Pointing Driver) is an electronic equipment tool that is used to drive the two-axis gimbal-type antenna for the image data transmission of CAS (Compact Advanced Satellite). In this study, a heat dissipation of EEE (Electrical, Electronic and Electromechanical) is reviewed, to identify the parts that directly affected its efficiency, lifetime as well as the reliability of the structure. This event eventually incurs a failure of the EEE part itself, or even the entire satellite system as noted in experiments in this case. To guarantee reliability of electronic equipment during the mission, the junction temperature of EEE parts is considered a significant and important design factor, and subsequently must be secured within the allowable range. Therefore, the notation of the thermal analysis considering the derating is indispensable, and a proper thermal mathematical model should be constructed for this case. In this study, the thermal design and thermal analysis are performed to confirm the temperature requirement of the APD. In addition, we noted that the validity of the thermal model, according to each of the identified modeling methods, was therefore compared through the thermal analysis utilized in this case.

This paper discussed on the directive gain improvement method of the U-type ultra wide-band(UWB) planar patch antenna model with CPW feeding. For directive gain improvement, the U-type printed patch antenna model with CPW feeding is reconstructed as a microstrip structure by adding a reflection plane with aperture slot. The reflection coefficient of the reconstructed antenna is less than -6.5 dB(VSWR < 3.3) to the characteristic impedance of $50.08{\Omega}$ and showed the directive radiation patterns with the directive gain of 7.5 dBi ~ 10.1 dBi, the front-back ratio of 17.8 dB ~ 28.7 dB and the range of -3dB radiation angle over ${\pm}30^{\circ}$ to the main beam direction of ${\theta}=0^{\circ}$.

Push-pull-type copolymers - low-band-gap copolymers of electron-rich fused-ring units (such as cyclopentadithiophene; CPDT) and electron-deficient units (such as benzothiadiazole; BT) - are promising donor materials for organic solar cells. Following a design principles proposed in our previous study, we investigate the electronic structure of a series of new CPDTBT derivatives with various electron-withdrawing groups using the time-dependent density functional theory and predict their power conversion efficiency from a newlydeveloped protocol using the Scharber diagram. Significantly improved efficiencies are expected for derivatives with carbonyl [C=O], carbonothioyl [C=S], dicyano [$C(CN)_2$] and dicyanomethylene [C=$C(CN)_2$] groups, but these polymers with no long alkyl side chain attached to them are likely to be insoluble in most organic solvents and inapplicable to low-cost solution processes. We thus devise several approaches to attach alkyl side chains to these polymers while keeping their high efficiencies.
In this study, micro-scale, high-performance, solenoid-type RF chip inductors were investigated. The size of the RF chip inductors fabricated in this work was $1.0{\times}0.5{\times}0.5mm^3$ The material and shape of the core were 96% $Al_2O_3$ and I-type. The material and number of turn of coil were copper (Cu) and 6. The diameter ($40{\mu}m$) of coil and length (0.35mm) of solenoid were determined by a Maxwell three-dimensional field simulator to maximize the performance of the inductors. High frequency characteristics of the inductance (L) and quality-factor (Q) of developed inductors were measured using an RF Impedance/Material Analyzer (HP4291B with HP16193A test fixture). The inductors developed have inductances of 10.8nH and quality factors of 25.2 at 250MHz, and show results comparable to those measured for the inductors prepared by CoilCraftTm that is one of the best chip inductor company in the world. The simulated data predicted the high-frequency data of the Land Q of the inductors developed well.

The MCS(Micro-Coplanar Strip) line with ground has been analyzed. The conformal mapping method is used to calculate the quasi-static effective dielectric constant and characteristic impedance of this MCS line. The computed results of the present work are found to be in good agreement when compared with the results obtained using commercial S/W, IE3D. And in this paper, the stepped-impedance low pass filter is designed and fabricated with MCS lines for improving the frequency responses. The LPF proposed structure has been also designed and implemented to have the sharp attenuation characteristics in stop band. The agreement between simulation and measurement results verify the implemented LPF.

We have proposed a metamaterial lens that enables sub-wavelength focusing, which is shorter than an operating wavelength. Our lens is a two dimensional array of a unit cell consisting of a metallic dual-plate printed on a dielectric substrate. The unique dual-plate structure provides negativeness both in permittivity and permeability, with no help from conventional additional structures, which are normally printed on the opposite of metallic patterns. Therefore, we can focus a source (or an image) in a tiny distance shorter than the free space wavelength (${\lambda}$) at the frequencies of interest. Furthermore, since the proposed geometry does not need separate supplementary structures to acquire negative permittivity or permeability, our lens is much simpler than conventional metamaterial lenses, which is a strong point in practical applications. We have validated sub-wavelength focusing ability in a 6 GHz frequency band through an experiment of near field scanning, which provided the width of about 0.19 ${\lambda}$ at a half maximum of a peak value of an measured image. The width of the focused image through the lens is more than 4 times shorter than that without the lens, which confirms the validity of our design approach.

It is difficult to design accurately the bandgap of metamaterial depending on metamaterial pattern and array configuration. In this paper, we propose a design method for the wanted bandgap frequency using any metamaterial pattern in 2 dimensional array. Metamaterial structure is consisted of periodic array. Therefore the calculation area in FDTD(finite difference time domain) method can be reduced by applying the periodic boundary condition to 2-D metamaterial array. The method for design and calculation the L and C values by using 2-D is also considered. So it can be designed more accurately and rapidly. For example, we designed metamaterial square pattern array in 5 GHz, and compared with the 1-D metamaterial pattern using analysis method in microstrip line. As a result, we found that the accuracy of this proposed method can be incresed to 14.7%.

The variation of S11 depending on the ground sizes of circular planar monopole UWB antenna was studied. And optimal ground structure and size in UWB application devices are proposed. Radius R of circular monopole UWB antenna as a reference antenna was designed for UWB frequency band, and the measured results of this antenna on the horizontal ground plane was good agreed with the simulated results. When radius R is small, optimal size of ground plane is proposed, and when radius R is more large, minimum size of ground plane is proposed.
