  • In recent years, wireless sensor networks have become an important part of data communications. Sensors provide information about the required measurements or control states over wireless networks. The energy efficient routing protocol of wireless sensor networks is the key issue for network lifetimes. The routing protocol must ensure that connectivity in a network is remained for a long period of time and the energy status of the sensor in the entire network must be in the same level in order not to leave the network with a wide difference in the energy consumptions of the sensors. In this paper we propose a new routing protocol based on AODV protocol that considers the energy efficiency when the protocol determines the routing paths, which is called AODV-EE. The proposed method prevents an imbalance of power consumption in sensors of wireless networks. From the simulation results it is shown that the proposed algorithm can be effectively used in collecting and monitoring data without concerning about the disconnection of the networks.

  • With the development of techniques, robots are getting smaller, and the number of robots needed for application is greater and greater. How to coordinate large number of autonomous robots through local interactions has becoming an important research issue in robot community. Swarm Robot Systems (SRS) is a system that independent autonomous robots in the restricted environments infer their status from pre-assigned conditions and operate their jobs through the cooperation with each other. In the SRS, a robot contains sensor part to percept the situation around them, communication part to exchange information, and actuator part to do a work. Especially, in order to cooperate with other robots, communicating with other robots is one of the essential elements. Because Bluetooth has many advantages such as low power consumption, small size module package, and various standard protocols, it is rated as one of the efficient communicating technologies which can apply to small-sized robot system. In this paper, we will develop Bluetooth communicating system for autonomous robots. And we will discuss how to construct and what kind of procedure to develop the communicating system for group behavior of the SRS under intelligent space.

  • The power consumption and heat generation in a chip increase as the components are miniaturized and the computing speed becomes faster. Therefore, suitable heat dissipation has become one of the primary limiting factors to ensure the guaranteed performance and reliable operation of the electronic devices. A pin-fin array which may be considered as a porous medium could be used as an alterative cooling system of the electronic equipment. The aim of the present study is to investigate the forced-convective heat transfer characteristics of pin-fin heat exchangers. Convective heat transfer through the pin~fin array is analyzed experimentally based on porous medium approach. The influence of the structure of the pin-fin array including the pin-fin spacing, the pin diameter and plate length on heat transfer characteristic is investigated and compared with the Previous analytical results and existing correlation equations. Nowadays, electronic and mechanical devices become smaller and smaller. In this sense, the main purpose of this study is to decide the optimum pin-fin arrangement to get similar heat transfer performance when the length of the existing cooling system is reduced as a half.

  • This paper presents a true-time delay (TTD) using a commercial $0.13-{\mu}m$ CMOS process for wideband phased-array antennas without the beam squint. The proposed TTD consists of four wideband distributed gain amplifiers (WDGAs), a 7-bit TTD circuit, and a 6-bit digital step attenuator (DSA) circuit. The T-type attenuator with a low-pass filter and the WDGAs are implemented for a low insertion loss error between the reference and time-delay states, and has a flat gain performance. The overall gain and return losses are >7 dB and >10 dB, respectively, at 2 GHz-18 GHz. The maximum time delay of 198 ps with a 1.56-ps step and the maximum attenuation of 31.5 dB with a 0.5-dB step are achieved at 2 GHz-18 GHz. The RMS time-delay and amplitude errors are <3 ps and <1 dB, respectively, at 2 GHz-18 GHz. An output P1 dB of <-0.5 dBm is achieved at 2 GHz-18 GHz. The chip size is $3.3{\times}1.6mm^2$, including pads, and the DC power consumption is 370 mW for a 3.3-V supply voltage.

  • A high-capacity battery installed in a hybrid vehicle or electric vehicle is used to power, or as a power supply for, electric sub-assemblies. In order to use a high-capacity battery as a power supply for electric sub-assemblies, such as an electronic control unit or for lighting, radio, and navigation, there is a need for a DC converter that changes a high voltage of 240-400V to a low voltage of 12-14V, which is done with a low-voltage DC-DC converter (LDC). An LDC undergoes long-term aging so as to reduce latent defects in the production process. With regard to the usual aging method, an LDC is a DC-DC converter. So, a DC power supply is connected and used as input, and a programmable DC electronic load is the output. For stable operation, a product having a larger capacity by 10% (compared to an LDC) is used, and has a structure where electric power is dissipated into 100% heat. So, there is a problem with volume, based on the use of two pieces of equipment to test the LDC, and another problem based on the generation of heat in the programmable DC electronic load. Hence, this paper suggests a load test method as a way of recycling, where a significant portion of the electricity dissipated as heat in a load tester is returned as input. The method realizes savings of 80% or more in the electricity dissipated as heat through improvement in the efficiency of the recycling load tester.

  • Recently, a envelope tracking(ET) amplifier that improves efficiency by changing of the bias according to the RF input level is presented to use for a high power amplifier of cellular radio handset using CDMA. The input and the output impedances of the ET amplifier may be varied by changing of the bias of the amplifier, and it makes the amplifier having low gain, low efficiency, and high input and output VSWR. In order to improve the input and the output mismatch of the amplifier, in this paper, two types of ET amplifier are suggested. In case of an ET amplifier using varactor diode, in experimentation, gain is improved about 7dB and the power consumption of the amplifier is better about 60% than that of the conventional amplifier. In case of a base voltage controlled ET amplifier, the gain and power consumption of the amplifier is improved about 9dB and 40% than those of the conventional amplifier, respectively.

  • The growing demand to make wireless data services 5G compatible has necessitated the development of an energy-efficient approach for an effective new wireless environment. In this paper, we first propose a cognitive sensor node (CSN) based game theory for deriving energy via a primary user-transmitted radio frequency signal. Cognitive users' time was segmented into three phases based on a time switching protocol: energy harvest, spectrum sensing and data transmission. The proposed model chooses the optimal energy-harvesting phase as the effected factor. We further propose a distributed energy-harvesting model as a utility function via pricing techniques. The model is a non-cooperative game where players can increase their net benefit in a selfish manner. Here, the price is described as a function pertaining to transmit power, which proves that the proposed energy harvest game includes Nash Equilibrium and is also unique. The best response algorithm is used to achieve the green connection between players. As a result, the results obtained from the proposed model and algorithm show the advantages as well as the effectiveness of the proposed study. Moreover, energy consumption was reduced significantly (12%) compared to the benchmark algorithm because the proposed algorithm succeeded in delivering energy in micro which is much better compared to previous studies. Considering the reduction and improvement in power consumption, we could say the proposed model is suitable for the next wireless environment represented in 5G.

  • The silicon dioxide ($SiO_2$) was deposited using various gas as oxygen and nitrous oxide ($N_2O$) in nowadays. In order to improve electrical characteristics and the interface state density ($D_{it}$) in low temperature, It was deposited with carbon dioxide ($CO_2$) and silane ($SiH_4$) gas by inductively coupled plasma chemical vapor deposition (ICP-CVD). Each $D_{it}$ of $SiO_2$ using $CO_2$ and $N_2O$ gas was $1.30{\times}10^{10}cm^{-2}{\cdot}eV^{-1}$ and $3.31{\times}10^{10}cm^{-2}{\cdot}eV^{-1}$. It showed $SiO_2$ using $CO_2$ gas was about 2.55 times better than $N_2O$ gas. After 10 years when the thin film was applied to metal/insulator/semiconductor(MIS)-nonvolatile memory(NVM), MIS NVM using $SiO_2$($CO_2$) on tunneling layer had window memory of 2.16 V with 60% retention at bias voltage from +16 V to -19 V. However, MIS NVM applied $SiO_2$($N_2O$) to tunneling layer had 2.48 V with 61% retention at bias voltage from +20 V to -24 V. The results show $SiO_2$ using $CO_2$ decrease the $D_{it}$ and it improves the operating voltage.

  • This paper reports the fabrication of a DVB-T/H System in Package (SiP) that is able to receive and process the DVB-T/H signal. The DVB-T/H is the European telecommunication standard for Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB). An IC-embedded Printed Circuit Board (PCB) process, interpose a chip between PCB layers, has applied to the DVB-T/H SiP. The chip inserted in DVB-T/H SiP is the System on Chip (SoC) for mobile TV. It is comprised of a RF block for DVB-T/H RF signal and a digital block to convert received signal to digital signal for an application processor. To operate the DVB-T/H IC, a 3MHz DC-DC converter and LDO are on the DVB-T/H SiP. And a 38.4MHz crystal is used as a clock source. The fabricated DVB-T/H SiP form 4 layers which size is $8mm{\times}8mm$. The DVB-T/H IC is located between 2nd and 3rd layer. According to the result of simulation, the RF signal sensitivity is improved since the layout modification of the ground plane and via. And we confirmed the adjustment of LC value on power transmission is necessary to turn down the noise level in a SiP. Although the size of a DVB-T/H SiP is decreased over 70% than reference module, the power consumption and efficiency is on a par with reference module. The average power consumption is 297mW and the efficiency is 87%. But, the RF signal sensitivity is declined by average 3.8dB. This is caused by the decrease of the RF signal sensitivity which is 2.8dB, because of the noise from the DC-DC converter.
