Numerical Feasibility Study for a Spaceborne Cooler Dual-function Energy Harvesting System

  • Spaceborne cryocoolers produce undesirable micro-vibration disturbances during their on-orbit operation, which are a primary source of image-quality degradation for high-resolution observation satellites. Therefore, to comply with the strict mission requirement of high-quality image acquisition, micro-vibration disturbances induced by cooler operation have always been subjected to an isolation objective. However, in this study, we focused on the applicability of energy harvesting technology to generate electrical energy from micro-vibration energy of the cooler and investigated the feasibility of utilizing harvested energy as a power source to operate low-power-consumption devices such as micro-electromechanical system (MEMS) devices. A tuned mass damper (TMD)-type electromagnetic energy harvester combined with a conventional passive vibration isolator was proposed to achieve this objective. The system performs the dual functions of electrical energy generation and micro-vibration isolation. The effectiveness of the strategy was evaluated through numerical simulations.

  • In the feed drive systems of machine tools that consist of many mechanical components such as motor, coupling, ballscrew, nut or table, a torsional vibration is often generated because of its elastic elements in torque transmission. Generally, the accuracy of motion control system is strongly influenced by the dynamic behavior of coupled transmission components. Especially, a torsional vibration caused by the elasticity of mechanical elements might deteriorate the quick movement of system and lead to shorten the life time of the mechanical transmission elements. So, it is necessary to analyze the electromechanical system mathematically to optimize the dynamic characteristics of the feed system. In this paper, the mathematical model of a feed drive system was developed and its mechanical characteristics were analyzed on the basis of the proposed model. The design concepts of speed control loop to stabilize a feed drive system were also proposed.

  • In consideration of piezoelectric characteristic and Temperature stability, 3-element system dopped with NiO, $Cr_2O_3$ well-known as Hardner and Stabilizer whose primary element is PZT was eximanated its structure, piezoelectric characteristics, dopping with Nio, $Cr_2O_3$. We think that piezoelectric Characteristic is developed, remenent polarization and $E_c$ can developed in specimens by dopping with NiO, $Cr_2O_3$ additive. also, electromechanical quality factor largely showed tendency of decrement. According to dopping NiO, $Cr_2O_3$ more.

Electromechanical analysis of 2-2 cement-based piezoelectric transducers in series electrically

  • This paper aims to present the analytical solutions of 2-2 cement based piezoelectric transducers in series electrically based on the theory of piezo-elastic dynamics. The solutions of two different kinds of 2-2 cement based piezoelectric transducers under external harmonic load are obtained by using the displacement method. The effects of electrical connection of piezoelectric layers, loading frequency, thickness and distance of piezoelectric layers on the characteristics of the transducers are discussed. Comparisons with other related experimental investigations are also given, and good agreement is found. The proposed 2-2 cement based piezoelectric transducers have a great potential application in monitoring structural health in civil engineering and capturing mechanical energy or monitoring train-running safety in railway system and traffic safety in road system.

  • This paper presents the modeling and multivariable feedback control of a novel high-precision multi-dimensional positioning stage. This integrated 6-degree-of-freedom. (DOF) motion stage is levitated by three aerostatic bearings and actuated by 3 three-phase synchronous permanent-magnet planar motors (SPMPMs). It can generate all 6-DOF motions with only a single moving part. With the DQ decomposition theory, this positioning stage is modeled as a multi-input multi-output (MIMO) electromechanical system with six inputs (currents) and six outputs (displacements). To achieve high-precision positioning capability, discrete-time integrator-augmented linear-quadratic-regulator (LQR) and reduced-order linearquadratic-Gaussian (LQG) control methodologies are applied. Digital multivariable controllers are designed and implemented on the positioning system, and experimental results are also presented in this paper to demonstrate the stage's dynamic performance.

  • When the controller designed by the $H{\infty}$ control technique is applied to the object system, sometimes the controller does not satisfy the robust stability and robust performance but only satisfy the nominal performance. In this paper, we derive the region on the frequency response curve of the open-loop transfer function which satisfy the robustness and robust performance of the designed controller. We also derive the region for the suitableness of the weighting function on the frequency response curve of the weighting function. We showed that the robust stability and the robust performance of the $H{\infty}$ optimal control)or by applying the designed controller on an electromechanical actuator system could be improved by determining parameter ${\gamma}$ and weighting function gain ${\alpha}$ using the derived region.

  • The piezoelectric properties of some perovskite ferroelectric materials have been investigated. The Curie temperature of $Nb^{+5}$ deped $BaTiO_3$ is lowered, and that of $La^{+3}$ doped BaTiO3 varies depending on whether the ionic neautrality of the ceramics is satisfied. The optimum sintered density of BaTiO3 system is obtained when the specimen is sintered for about an hour at 1300-140$0^{\circ}C$ (the optimal sintering temperature of PZT is also about 130$0^{\circ}C$). The electromechanical coupling factor of PZT is reported to be larger than that of $BaTiO_3$ system.

The fabrication and strain properties of piezoeletric ceramic actuator using PMN - PT -PZ system (PMN - PT - PZ 계 세라믹스를 이용한 압전 엑츄에이터의 제작 및 변위 특성)

  • Piezoelectric Actuator and electrostrictive Actuator samples were fabricated using PMN-PT-PZ system ceramics with Barium substitution, and the strain properties of them investigated. The largest Piezoelectric coefficient and electromechanical coupling coefficient were observed at sintering temperature $1250^{\circ}C$, Barium 0.05 mol %. The strain of poled samples is observed twice highly then unpoled ones, and the former showed larger hysteresis in strain then the latter, too. Poled multilayered actuator samples showed considerable strain.

  • Dielectric and piezoelectric porperties of pseudoternary xPb(Al2/3W1/3)O3-(1-x)Pb(Zr0.52Ti0.48)O3 (x=1~10mol%) ceramic system have been investigated as a function of the amount of PAW[Pb(Al2/3W1/3)O3] and sintered from 110$0^{\circ}C$ to 120$0^{\circ}C$ for 1hr. As the amount of PAW increases, the c/a of tetragonal structure decreases. The grain size was reduced with increasing the amount of PAW addition. However, the density, dielectric constant and electromechanical coupling factor(kp) exhibited a maximum value at the amount of 5mol% PAW addition.

  • This paper presents a coupling scheme of LSM(Level Set Method) and Poisson's equation to analyze the dynamic performance of electromagnetic system with moving parts. Remeshing process is necessary to analyze the dynamics of moving object using finite element method. LSM is useful for analysis of moving objects or propagating models in time varying system. In this paper, we proposed the material setting technique of mover using level set function. To validate the algorithm, we adopted the simple hinged electromagnet model with moving arm. The results of simulation are reasonable as expect.
